Check this site out for near DVD quality VCD movies. Very interesting stuff.
http://www.kvcd.net/

Most of us here Know about KVCD templates and I have tested them Extensively and Don"t like them at all...Besides the Files Not Being Compliant and The lack of I frames Makes them nearly impossible to edit or Chapter properly, and the Poeple Who Make these templates Must have some sort of Vision Problem cuz there is No way that they are Near DVD Quality, some of the Templates cause Major Blockyness and Low Definition Images..But besides that there great....lol

ASHY  2002-12-11 21:12:31 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes these templates are well known here. I think they are ok up to a point, but extravagant claims of DVD quality is just not true.

Yeah, i guess, the Creators of these Templates should consult an eye specialist...

Actually, there are just a couple of Nay sayers in all forums I've visited, compared to thousands of YEAH! sayers. So for those who still don't believe you can get near DVD quality, go get this latest sample, and read about the things they've done at kvcd.net. Like KVCDPredictor program and a lots of cools software: http://www.kvcd.net/red.m1v thread here: http://www.kvcd.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1969
As a matter of fact, the guys at kvcd.net have started their own MPEG encoder project, so with all the momentum these people have, I think they will blast away every encoder in the planet in a not too far away future. You people better keep watching that site!

Let me just tell you something about these templates.
While I think the principle behind these templates is good and they do work up to a point, I have done a lot of tests with the templates in the past and while good still cannot match the quality of MPEG2 encoding when using CCE, filesize 'v' filesize.

I will even send you the evidence. I have 2 identical clips. One encoded with KVCD and the other CCE. The file sizes are the same, but the CCE encoding is clearly better with a distinct difference of macro block evidence.

Question - TE25 - Help for best setting AVI --> MPEG2 No.31749
caulnguyen  2002-12-11 05:10:36 ( ID:l18fvxjvodm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What is the best setting for TMPGEnc when converting AVI to MPEG2 format. I would like the highest quality possible. I set the CQ to 100. Max Bitrate 8000, min bitrate 2000, non-interlace. WHen I play back the Mpeg2 file, the picture have horizontal line ghost, especially when people are moving.

thanks

That is Probably because the Source IS interlaced, and that is what you are seeing...So you should set it as Interlaced and you Might want to try a deinterlace filter and Make sure you have the "Field Order" set correctly..Most video is Going to be interlaced...

wcpaul  2002-12-11 17:46:23 ( ID:q7gr550x3gw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you ultimately will author the MPEG to DVD for viewing on a TV, interlaced video is the native format and will look flawless (as long as the field order was set correctly).

Better DVD player software for computers will supress some interlace artifacts but software like Media Player, which just uses a simple, decoder will not.

Even WinDVD's deinterlacing is surprisingly bad. With the horsepower in todays computers there is no reason for any artifacts to be visible, but they still are.

I totaly hear what your saying buddy, you want to get high quality cyrstal clear footage, those line..I spent a lot of time on this, use the filters, but look at a frame of your footage in the preveiw and choose the best filter, you will notice it straight away, use the highest bitrate you can a nd when you authour it and play it on your set top, you will be impressed !!!

happy coding

ASHY  2002-12-11 21:32:16 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

>If you ultimately will author the MPEG to DVD for viewing on a TV, interlaced video is the native format and will look flawless (as long as the field order was set correctly).

I think this is untrue. I have tried this before with several interlaced PAL sources, which have had some sort of Telecine applied, and the produced image had a sort of strobing effect on fast moving objects (like what you would see if you move your hand in front of a TV screen) ( No these were not interlacing lines, I'm well aware of what they are)

The effect was definitely linked to the fact that the source wasn't de-interlaced though. The field order was also set correctly. As soon as I used the AVIsynth 'Bob' de-interlace filter the effect dissapeared and this did not really affect the image quality to any degree.

So while your statement may be true for some sources it isn't true for all.

Question - TE25 - multiplex choices No.31746
jetty  2002-12-10 22:01:52 ( ID:cai47j4msd6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello!

Can it be defined shortly what is a difference is between simple multiplex and multiplex in Mpeg Tools?
While at Multiplex the drop down type window has veru little influence over result multiplex results.
Does this choice of type is supposed to convert streams to different bitrates?
When it's mpeg2 to mpeg 1 and so on.
If there is somewhere a good guide to TMPGenc Mpeg Tools then I have missed it!

jetty

minion  2002-12-10 22:45:03 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You don"t need a Guide for the Mpeg tools Cuz there is Nothing Complicated about them..."Simple Multiplex" only lets you Mux One Video file with one audio file But the othe "Multiplex" will allow you to Mux more than one Audio stream to a Video stream...The Dropdown Menu options Tell the Multiplex what type of Header and Mux rate to use on the File that you are Muxing..A VCD Needs a different Header and Mux rate than a Plain Mpeg1 file, and The same with SVCD and Mpeg2 files....

>While at Multiplex the drop down type window has veru little influence over result multiplex results.

You will see the influence the type of stream choice has if you try to burn a raw MPEG1 file as VCD without attaching the correct VCD header using the 'MPEG1 VCD' stream type.

Bug report - TE25 - TMPGEnc increases brightness/gamma No.31744
PetDro  2002-12-10 18:41:13 ( ID:k6hgy9s1hlj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

With Premiere 6.0 in conjunction with Pinnacle DV500-Plus it is possible to create a video file in DVD-format (.mp2, Pinnacle MPEG2, PAL, 720x576) and a separate audio file (.mpa) . When these video files are viewed or processed by TMPGEnc (convert to SVCD) it increases extremely brightness/gamma. Manual reduction of brightness or gamma will not bring back the original view. Other video viewers shows the correct brighness and colours.

how do i get rid of purple bits in the flim decode and how do i install pluginns

minion  2002-12-10 22:38:45 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What Plugins are you talking about..Most of the Plugins you need come with Tmpgenc Unless you are looking to encode "MOV" Files then you would need the MOV Plugin, the DVD2AVI Plugin should Load automaticly after running DVD2AVI one Time...And Please explain what you are talking about with regard to "how do i get rid of purple bits in the flim decode".. This doesn"t really make any sence ?

Question - TE25 - Picture Size of 496x384 No.31738
Dave  2002-12-10 12:44:46 ( ID:0mkvd61oock )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am using the evaluation version of TMPGRnc to process an AVI file at 496x384. I have a couple of questions:

1. On the wizard, I seem to have the choice of only making the picture smaller or larger and in the advanced settings the boxes to change the picture size are greyed out. Can I adjust the size in the fll version?

2. Is there a reason I don't want an MPEG at 496x384, like it won't play correctly? It would sem that going to 352x240 gives up much of the content in the larger format.

minion  2002-12-10 22:33:52 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You Can Change all the Settings But you have to Load the "Unlock.mcf" template first then all the settings will be unlocked, Or you can just go to "Settings" and Click were it says "Size" and go to "Unlock" then you will be able to change the Resolution...I don"t really understand what your Second Question is about, But if you are Trying to Make a VCD then you Have to have the resolution set to 352+240 for NTSC or it will not be VCD Compliant and You won"t Loose any of the Picture by resizeing it will just be scaled down to the Correct resolution...

Question - TE25 - Mov to Mpeg No.31734
Joaquin  2002-12-10 02:06:17 ( ID:kkh/jwgn0bo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I downloaded the plugin that allows me to convert from .mov to .mpeg , the video works fine but the sound doesnt work!, whats wrong???

minion  2002-12-10 02:48:20 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well Quite a Few poeple have had this Problem with MOV Files and Tmpgenc..What you are going to need to do is Extract the audio out of the MOV File to WAV with a Program that supports MOV files and Use the WAV audio as you audio source in Tmpgenc..I don"t think Virtual Dub will work for this But One Program that does is "Sound Forge" it can even extract the audio to a Mp2 File that you would Just need to Mux with the Mpeg video file, It can even encode the Mov file to mpeg for you But tmpgenc Is Better at it..

Question - TE25 - Photos to dvd No.31732
joemar5  2002-12-10 01:49:28 ( ID:bretwi1a3.g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I need to encode digital photos (tiff) 25 meg each into a high quality dvd,
16:9 format. I need desperate help. Thanking anyone out there in advance

minion  2002-12-10 02:39:16 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I do not Know if it is Possible to Encode Tiff files to Mpeg with Tmpgenc..Tmpgenc Does support Quite a Few Image formats But I did not see Tiff Listed..But I guess you Can try..The way you Load Image sequences into Tmpgenc is To Name the Images in Numerical order, like This :Image#001.tif, Image#002.tif and so one till they are all numbered and in the same folder, then you Just choose the First file and then rest will be loaded in the order you Numbered them..But if you Can"t get Tmpgenc to encode the Tiff files to Mpeg then there a Few Programs that are Made specificly For Photo DVD"s, Like on fairly good one is called "Ulead DVD Picture Show" it supports Tiff files and Many other ones also and it does Make Fairly good Presentations, i Have used it once before to Make a Photo VCD and it looked pretty Good...You Can Learn about it a Bit more here: http://www.ulead.com/dps/features.htm/ , You can also Download a Fully Functioning 15 day demo from here: ftp://ftp.ulead.com/pub/Trial/PictureShow/DVDPS_E_T.exe , There are Other Programs that can do it also But I believe this one is pretty easy to use and has some good features....

Question - TE25 - I have 8 gig file and won't show up? No.31730
David  2002-12-10 00:04:33 ( ID:q0g7ebxahqh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am trying to encode a 16 min file that is over 8 gig's and It dosen't show up in the tmpeg program when I go to the preview window. Does anyone have experence making a mpeg 2 file from a clip this large ? I am using a avi file created in Discreet edit , the file type is M-JPEG and I am running tmpeg 2.59.
thanks
david

minion  2002-12-10 02:24:12 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

So your Saying that you Can get the File to Load But you can"t get See a Picture while encodeing or in any of the Preview Windows??Well The First thing you should try is to Raise the Priority of the "Direct show File Reader" in the "Vfapi Plugins", to get there you go to "Options" to "Enviromental Settings" to "Vfapi Plugins" and Raise it to "2"..This usually works with this type of Problem..Next you should make sure that the Proper Codec is enabled and set up properly, Cuz I know with the Pic-Video Mjpeg Captures I do, I have to have the Codec enabled and I have to turn off the "Force YUY2 Output" Setting or I get the Same problem you are haveing ,But this might not apply to you depending on which codec you are useing..But if after this you Still Can"t get the Picture to show up then you Might try to "Frame Serve" the File to Tmpgenc with Something like "Virtual dub", If you can get "Virtual Dub" to Read the File then you Should Be able to Frame serve it without a problem..I have encoded Files Much larger than 8 gb even Over 80gb useing HuffyUV and a 2.5 hour Movie at full resolution and have Usually been able to Overcome any problems useing One of these Fixes....
