Question - TE25 - Merge & Cut ??? No.34476
aquageo  2003-02-13 16:22:35 ( ID:dgrew6j77vc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a 1,280mb mpg1 file that I am trying to cut into 2 files >800mb. When I use TMPGEnc's merge & cut tool, I get the following error Read error occured at address 1d1c4e860f module'mm switch.ax with 0000,0000' The file plays fine in Windvd4 player. Does anyone have any suggestions . This is my first atttempt at DVD to VCD, I am so close yet still so far away!

Ashy  2003-02-13 20:55:17 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm not quite sure, but it looks like this could have something to do with the Morgan stream switcher or the audio in your MPEG.

Is the audio standard in your VCD and do you have the Morgan stream switcher installed or have you installed any codec packs?

Question - TE25 - Premier and Tmpgenc No.34473
2up  2003-02-13 14:19:24 ( ID:u3.nfwrznna )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Do any of you have an opinion on whether it makes any difference to render out to an avi file then convert to mpeg or render directly thru a mpeg codec.
I've heard some say that when Premier renders out to an DV avi that some loss occurs in the video, verses rendering directly out to the final mpeg? I haven't tried to test the results because I don't have a premier mpeg2 plugin.

Ashy  2003-02-13 20:58:52 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well obviously you are going to lose some quality.
No matter what format you render to there will always be some quality loss. Encoding then re-encoding to any format will cause loss. So keeping the times you need to re-encode will always be preferable. So to answer your question render directly to MPEG.

Don't use DV format unless your original source was DV. That has 4:1:1 color sampling versus 4:2:0 (or 4:2:2). Use Huffyuv Lossless Codec for AVI output if input and output formats can't be exactly matched.

Lately, I have been trying the AVIWrapper plugin from videotools.net with Ulead MediaStudio. It creates a dummy AVI file and frameserves uncompressed video from the editor. There is also a Premier version. (To use it for free you have to solve a random addition problem each time!)

Question - TE25 - convert mpeg2 to mpeg1 No.34471
gix81E  2003-02-13 13:43:00 ( ID:h.0/kudvuvo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I want to convert mpeg2 file in mpeg1 file. How can tmpg do it?

Minion  2003-02-13 21:26:21 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The Same as encodeing any file to Mpeg1...But you need to have the Proper Mpeg2 Decoders installed, or you can use DVD2AVI to frameserve the Mpeg2 files to tmpgenc...

Question - TE25 - Avi to mpeg no longer working consistantly No.34460
Motts  2003-02-13 02:32:25 ( ID:jpsh2mo4l5m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I converted an avi to mpeg using version 2.509. I had chopped it into smaller bits in preparation for a VCD. In my haste I forgot one part. When I went back the next day I was told that the audio "can not open, or is unsupported." Like I said... I converted the same file the day before with no problems. What can I do?

Apparently this software isn't compatible with my PowerMac. Does anyone know of a good software for the Mac that I can covert a mov to a mpeg with?

Thanks.

Question - TE25 - cannot load mpeg2 files No.34447
george_zhu  2003-02-12 22:19:00 ( ID:hz6rjbhkmfo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I got a averDVD EZmaker capture card and it is bundled with neoStandard DVD 4.0. It can capture mpeg2 files at VBR with 720*480. I would like to convert it to SVCD. But I cannot loaded it in TMpgEnc 2.510. I have tried to make the priority of directshow highest in VFAPI. But it does not work. What is wrong?

george_zhu  2003-02-12 22:20:59 ( ID:hz6rjbhkmfo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

BTW: I can watch it in windows media play. My PC is Athlon XP 2000+, 256 DDR, 60G HD

Ashy  2003-02-12 22:55:28 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need a specific MPEG2 plugin to decode the MPEG. You can find which ones you need by clicking the features link at the TMPG main page.

Well. I found the explanation about mpeg2 after TMpgEnc 2.507. Is that what you mean? I still have tow questions

1. Where can I download these official decoder like Sony, Liso, ...

2. I can play the mpeg2 file in windows media player. And I have set directshow to be highest priority. But I still cannot load these mpeg2 file into TMpgEnc2.510. Just "file not supported". Some one told me that they can load the mpeg2 file produced by the same software in TMpgEnc2.510. I do not know why I cannot. What should I do?

Ashy  2003-02-14 17:49:34 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Like I have said you will need one of the above decoders. Raising the directshow will have no effect. The decoders are installed when install one of the above DVD players.
You can download the Cyberlink MPEG2 codec seperately and install it though.
