Question - TE25 - Sorry about the double posting... No.40261
Sillyname  2003-12-24 15:54:02 ( ID:lson5c//lnw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Either happened when I hit refresh or when I jumped back to my submission page and then forward again to the main page.

Sillyname  2003-12-24 16:02:46 ( ID:lson5c//lnw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Why did the other guy's post get repeated, too? Maybe it wasn't my fault?

Question - TE25 - My problem No.40259
Sillyname  2003-12-24 15:51:42 ( ID:lson5c//lnw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I went to www.DVDHelp.us and downloaded their templates for TMPGEnc. But when I go into the NTSC DVD templates, they were set for 23.976fps and 3:2 pulldown. On the next tab over it said that the movie was to be interlaced, though they were doing a 3:2 on it.

Things looked screwed up enough in it that I'm wondering if somehow my copy of TMPGEnc may be scrambling my settings, somehow.

Does anybody know a program that is "fairly easy to use" that I might be able to compare mpeg2 movies in? ULEAD's mpeg2 encoder works fine on DVD settop, though apparently not as pretty as everybody keeps promising TMPGEnc to be.

Minion  2003-12-25 02:32:49 ( ID:/d4nypdxsbj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Certain Templates will only work properly with certain Files, and This Template was Odviously made for a Progressive 23.976fps Source File..If your Source File is For Instance Interlaced and 29.97fps then that Frame Rate setting with the 3:2 Pulldown will Not work with this File ,You would Then Just change the Frame Rate to 29.97fps the same as your Source Files Framerate....
It is your Source File that Determines what settings you would use to Encode it to a Particular format...If you Post the Specs of your AVI file I can tell you what settings will Work in Tmpgenc...Cheers

Grahame Ross  2003-12-24 15:06:44 ( ID:ubdi0mq6xtr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have started using TMPGEnc for joining mpegs. It works but I can`t get the saved clips to run with Win Media Player automatically. The box is greyed out so how do I get Media Player to recognise this format?

Minion  2003-12-25 02:46:20 ( ID:/d4nypdxsbj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What do you mean by "The Box is Greyed Out"?? What Box?? If you mean that the File Type is not recognized by your PC or by Media Player you should Just be able to Right click the File and then go to "Properties" and were it says "Opens With" click the "Change" Button and navigate to the Media Player Icon in the List and then click "Apply" then "OK" and then when you double click the File Media Player should automaticly Play it...Media Player natively doesn"t come with a Mpeg2 decoder so it might not play any Mpeg2 files without the Proper Decoders installed, it is Best to use a software DVD Player Like WinDVD or PowerDVD to play Mpeg files with...Cheers

Grahame Ross  2003-12-25 16:52:51 ( ID:o7lfv41j/vg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for the info - problem is that right clicking/properties does not come up with a list of programs. If I double click the file the requester box comes up asking what program do I want to use. Clicking Media Player gets it playing but the box which says `always use this program for viewing this file` is greyed out so I can`t check the box. Every time I want to view a file generated by this joiner I must identify the program required! The files are on my hard drive not on a DVD as I don`t have a DVD player except a stand-alone one.

Minion  2003-12-26 02:48:56 ( ID:/d4nypdxsbj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well you do not need a DVD Player to Have DVD Player software..DVD Playing software Is Basicly just For Playing Mpeg files but it will also Play any other Format I actually like them better for all files than Media Player...You can also enable File types in media Player assumeing the Type of files you are talking about are .mpg files they should allready be enabled...well good luck

Question - TE25 - Is this still true? (Entry in TMPGEnc FAQ) No.40251
Sillyname  2003-12-23 16:15:33 ( ID:lson5c//lnw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The following is an excerpt from the TMPGEnc FAQ:

"TMPGEnc can not read AVI file with DV format.
The file is probably Type-1 DV format. The format is not supported by TMPGEnc. Type-1format has different structure from AVI format. TMPGEnc can not read the format since TMPGEnc does not support DirectShow.
To solve this matter, try to save the captured or edited file as Type-2 DV format, however, there are still chance not to be able to read the file if you are using general IEEE1394 board without codec for VFW."

Is this still true? I noticed some things in the FAQ needed updating...

Question - TDA1 - Help! Using DVD Writing tool halfwy through get Writing Error. No.48903
Rick  2003-12-23 13:54:03 ( ID:nngqmmbzg3l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Using TMPGEnc DVD Author v1.5.15.49 I made a DVD, then used DVD Shrinkit 3.0 on it, then went back to TMPGEnc DVD Author to use the DVD Writing too to actually make my DVD.

Half way through the writing process I get this popup saying

"Writing Error. Cmd:42, Scene:5,ASC:33,ASCQ:2"

I click ok on it..

It then says "Invalid Unit Number".

Any idea what that error message means? How do I trouble shoot it?

Rick

PumpkinHead  2004-01-29 12:32:58 ( ID:zdbdtx2vopf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

OK, I tried this 2 ways - neither worked.

I created a bmp for a play button. created a new project and used this bmp for the play all button. I saved the project. closed TDA, deleted the bmp and restarted TDA. when i reloaded the project the play all button was still there.

I also tried deleting the bmp (once i had saved the project) without closing TDA. I then reloaded the project and the button was still there.

wot am i doing wrong, then??

PumpkinHead  2004-01-29 16:23:02 ( ID:zdbdtx2vopf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

just to clarify . . .

there was no image there, but the button still existed on the compiled dvd. you just can't see it.

Request - TDA1 - Save Project from within Edit Menu No.48899
Bass  2003-12-23 05:14:53 ( ID:mlssnl98uqn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I use the Edit Menu to cut out commercials. I would like to save my project as I go just in case I make a mistake, or something goes wrong. I have to leave the Edit Menu and go to the OPTIONS button to save my project. Adding a SAVE PROJECT button to the Edit Menu would be helpful.

I use the Edit Menu to cut out commercials. Sometimes, I would like to UNDO the last cut and change the start / stop position. A UNDO LAST CUT button would be helpful.

Bass  2003-12-23 14:43:27 ( ID:mlssnl98uqn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I will answer my own request, the UNDO is in the EDIT MENU under the EDIT CUT screen. I never looked there before today. It will undo the last cut and return the clip as it was before the cut. There is also an UNDO all cuts under the EDIT MENU button (Reset cut editing, but I have not used that yet).

Question - TE25 - no sound No.40236
yy  2003-12-22 19:09:05 ( ID:xwd.nn0r/uk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

each time i convert an avi to mpg2 the movie has no sound , help please :)

Sillyname  2003-12-22 19:30:27 ( ID:lson5c//lnw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Need to know how you're saving the avi from your editor and how you're importing it into TMPGEnc. Give a step by step, then someone can fill in any possible causes of trouble.

yy  2003-12-22 20:03:40 ( ID:xwd.nn0r/uk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i drag n drop avi movie into video source and audio source and hit start , then i sit n pick my nose , the movie turns out ok (into mpg2)but no sound :(
also i was wondering if the avi file being so large would have anything to do with the sound

Sillyname  2003-12-22 20:10:45 ( ID:lson5c//lnw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Have you played the original avi to see if audio is there?
Make sure System stream is checked. It's the last setting towards the bottom right of the main window's screen. Has ES (Video Only), ES (Audio Only), etc... System is on the bottom, it has (Audio+ Video) or something like that. I believe. I don't have it in front of me right now. BUt I believe any settings that say (audio and video) in paranthesis indicate that you wish to include audio with the final mpeg2.

Im sure you Found that you will need something like "Virtual Dub" to extract the audio to WAV....It is freeware and if you look for it you will find it...

geyaya  2003-12-23 00:43:40 ( ID:wnl1zziequo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I had the very same problem (no sound) when converting avi. I know I am still a newbie kind even I've spent more than fifty hours trying to figure this out in the past week:-(( My solution is giving up TMPGEnc and swtiching to DVD2SVCD (which uses TMPGEnc as its internal rountine). DVD2SVCD basically checks your avi file and does all the configuration for you (no matter what kind of avi you have, I mean video and audio codec). TMPGEnc is a wonderful tool, but it can easily scare off many many newbies like me. You can download DVD2SVCD on www.doom9.org.

yy  2003-12-23 23:09:35 ( ID:t45dzz5dlsh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

ok, i managed to solve the probelm,
1.download goldwave v5.06 http://www.goldwave.com/
2 open goldwave then click file at top left hand side, then click batch processing , make sure convert files to this formatt is checked (ticked)
save as type should read :Wave (*.wav)
attibutes: PCM signed 16 bit, stereo . if thats ok ,then click add files (top right hand side)
add the avi file (movie), once you have added the avi file then click begin at the bottom
it will then create a wav file ,roughly taking about 5mins ,deciding on the size of avi file.
now u should have a wav file and your avi file, open up tmpgenc and drag n drop the avi file into :video file , then drag n drop the wav file into: audio file, then the rest is history .
goldwave v5.06 is free demo for one month

Minion  2003-12-25 02:39:14 ( ID:/d4nypdxsbj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can do the same thing with "Virtual Dub" and Virtual dub is free and this Version supports Mpeg 2 files:
http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/stable/VirtualDub-MPEG2.zip

If you install this it will also support AC3 audio files and so will Tmpgenc:
http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/AC3ACM/AC3ACM.zip

All you do is Load your AVI into Virtual Dub then go to "Audio" and set it to "Full proscessing Mode" then go to "File" to "Save Wav" and give it a Name and save it and that is it you will have a Wav audio file that you can use as the audio source in tmpgenc..With the AC3 ACM Decompressor installed you should be able to encode AVI Files with AC3 audio to Mpeg in tmpgenc without haveing to extract the audio first...Cheers
