Question - TE30 - Mr No.53303
firestorm445  2004-09-16 20:51:20 ( ID:mc/aqw6eeqf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

when encoding to an MPEG VCD from WMV, the output file plays a second or two then pauses on one frame and then plays another few seconds and pauses again. it does this throughout the file. The audio is fine, it plays as normal, its just the video is screwed

raorao  2004-10-03 15:35:17 ( ID:8zuvl5msklf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What WMV file is it? To WMV gathered in the network, mostly, protection has started and cannot encode.

Question - TE25 - frame rate/ audio synch No.42285
Bully  2004-09-16 18:00:28 ( ID:ksbmsrz6oig )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi - can anyone please help?

I searched the forum and found instructions for changing the frame rate of an .avi (from 23.976 to 25 fps), which i did using vitualdub, avifrate, and goldwave (to shrink the length of the .wav file).

Anyway, i was left with a 25 fps .avi and a .wav file of exactly the same length, both being about 4% shorter than the original avi. I thought i'd done everthing right, but after multiplexing the two files in TMPGEnc, the new .mpg started perfectly, but slowly went out of synch, and after an hour or so, the audio was a few seconds behind the video. I tried multiplexing in virtualdub, but the resulting .avi had exactly the same problem.

ashy  2004-09-16 19:35:54 ( ID:od.oqrlav66 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need to make sure that the length of the audio is infact the same length as the original video to begin with.
In your case it sounds as if the audio track was a tad longer than the the video track.

The best thing to do here is to cut about five seconds from the end of the movie with Virtualdub.
This will ensure that both video and audio are exactly the same length then do the procedure again.

Load the AVI and the new wav into Virtualdub to check for sync before encoding.

Another alternative is to use Wavworks.
Simply select 'Stretch/Compress' and load the original wav into Wavworks. Make sure the 'Change FPS' is set to 23.976 fps to 25 fps and then run it.

Again check the sync with VD.

Bully  2004-09-17 01:02:17 ( ID:ksbmsrz6oig )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ashy - thanks very much for the response. I tried what you suggested - cut about 10 secs off the end of the original movie and did the whole procedure again ( i hope i understood you correctly), but i got the same result.

I could not find wavworks, but both goldwave and winamp tell me the shrunk .wav file is exactly the same length as the processed (23.976 to 25 fps).avi before i multiplex, yet the completed movie still goes slowly out of synch.

I'm assuming wavworks will only do what goldwave timewarp does? Any further thoughts?

Wavworks will do what Goldwave will do by shrinking or stretching the wav, but in a different way.
I suggest you try it. Check your email.
If it's still out of sync I will give some advice how to resync it with Wavworks.

One thing you need to check is the frame rate of the original. Make sure you put into Wavworks exactly the frame rate that Virtualdub states as the frame rate.

Bully  2004-09-19 16:23:54 ( ID:ksbmsrz6oig )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I ran wavworks and it worked really well. There was a very slight video lag this time by the end of the movie, but i muxed again and delayed the audio by 200ms, and it was acceptable all the way through. Then i converted using Tmpg and got a very smooth motion, which overcame the original problem of jerkyness. The time stretch operation was very much quicker than goldwave too.

I don't think the aspect ratio is quite right, but i can have a fiddle with Tmpg and see what i can do.

Again - many thanks.

Question - TDA1 - TMPEG Exceeds Capacity??? No.49228
Spassvogel  2004-09-15 00:14:16 ( ID:oprmp4qk3pc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a project that consists of four MPEG files. In TMPEG DVD Author, the size bar on the bottom tells me that the capacity of the burned DVD is 4173/4438MB

However, when I encode the DVD folder and try to burn it, I always get the message that the file exceeds the capacity of the DVD-R!

How is this possible that 500 megs are magically added? Particularly when the program tells me I'm okay? It shouldn't be doing any re-encoding, I unchecked the box to re-incode the audio on each of the video files. ANy ideas?

Spass

Sakuya  2004-09-15 04:04:09 ( ID:1iejbazj1k. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Does your DVD-R have enough room? The common ones has a maximum of 4.7GB. I know there are some that have a smaller capacity.

Spassvogel  2004-09-16 04:20:35 ( ID:oprmp4qk3pc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, the DVDs all have enough capacity. Even if that was the problem, it does not explain why the TMPGEnc DVD ecoder is reporting the size of the burned DVD as 4.1 and then burning 4.5. It doesn't make sense.

Spass

Sakuya  2004-09-16 19:51:16 ( ID:yjvzugeaiog )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well, the ISOs and other DVD files adds more space. Try re-making your DVD by using this free Bitrate Calculator. It is bound to fit as long as you leave in a few extra minutes after inputting the movie's length.

izzykatz  2004-09-20 10:12:25 ( ID:0v38fp4fqco )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

this is a related question of a newbie:
can anybody explain the SIZE BAR? does the full length correspond to 4.7G? what is the line near 4.4G?
Why does it say 4435? Why is the color red beyond that line?

Izzy

B_Racer  2004-09-20 22:28:31 ( ID:uuwxt3imncn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That's because the TRUE capacity of a DVD is 4.37 GByte, not 4.7 GByte. It's that old 1024 vs 1000 Problem...

And as a Tipp: Set the Min-Bitrate never at less than 1150 kbps. OK, the DVD-Standard does allowe Min-Bitrate at 0, but while Muxing, such Files will becoming larger (it's an internal muxong-thing, hard to explain, my english isn't good enough for that)

izzykatz  2004-09-21 08:11:15 ( ID:0v38fp4fqco )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

thanks,
Now that I have a file (mpg) that is 5366/4438, can I make it fit the capacity using tmpgenc by changing any parameter other then cutting pieces? or i must go back to other software?
Again - what does the vertical line in the size bar near 4.7G says? can I fill the bar to its end (inc red area?) or only the purple?
Izzy

Joe Hecht  2004-09-24 18:09:21 ( ID:yclzyhyhjqc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I set the movable size bar to a filesize of 4448.whatever, and with no menus, my movies always fit on a DVD. At 4449, they fail.

I HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM I MAKE THE PROJECT JUST UNDER THE CUT OFF SAY 4373MB (4.3GIG) BUT WHEN I BURN THE DVD IT COMES IN AT 3500MB (3.5GIG). ANY IDEAS?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE. MAL

Wile_E  2004-10-25 22:13:00 ( ID:3jityvgcqdw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

4.7 DVD-R is actually 4200MB or 4.2GB as displayed by DVD Author on the timeline. So Max is 4.2GB. Like someone else said, this is old conversion problem like hard drive manufacturers use for defining ONE MB. 1024KB or 1000KB.

alandla  2004-10-30 14:00:16 ( ID:uuoxnuuhlo. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

your logic is wrong with this 1024 conversion. If that were the explanation, a 4.7Gb DVD should hold 4813Mb (1Gb = 1024 Mb thus 4.7Gb = 4.7 x 1024/1).

The answer must be some DVD formatting issue.

One thing that I notice though is that after I've added a file, DVD author seems to increase it's size by about 30Mb.

Makes it hard to calculate the encode when you have more than 1 file.

wile_e  2004-10-30 20:05:53 ( ID:koszrrbs2if )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

okay I was wrong. Thanks for pointing my mistake out.

I tried adding more files to DVD Author, just beyond 4438MB red line. It gave error message saying I went over the capacity. That the capacity of a 4.7GB DVD is about 4437MB.

TMPGenc red line is at 4200MB. So this gives the user a little room (237MB), to author the DVD and add menus.

So if you don't plan on adding menus, you should be able to set the estimated file size in TMPGenc to about 4438MB. But after encoding, the movie may be a little more in size, so I would choose a smaller size so it don't go over. Maybe 4350MB maximum?

blackbird  2004-12-31 11:10:31 ( ID:rdnxhn0hcka )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

the problem i'm having is that the capacity line at the bottom starts out with 530MB when i don't even have a file loaded. so i'm being cheated out of 530MB worth of space to use. anyone have any idea why this would occur?

Question - TDA1 - Music to menu No.49226
Jason  2004-09-14 12:06:41 ( ID:5zlio5yryaw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How can i add music as the sound for the menu screen(s)?
And does anyone know how to make good back ground images which can line up with the button layout options, is there measurements for this?

Sakuya  2004-09-14 21:37:27 ( ID:yjvzugeaiog )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

For the menu music, please see this:

http://bbs.pegasys-inc.com/bbscgi/ebbs/board.cgi?board=tda&page=1#topic630

As for the background image, it's really not that easy. There should be an option where you can move the thumbnails around and make it smaller. It's not possible to remove the thumbnails at all.

Question - TDA1 - AAC Support? No.49223
Sakuya  2004-09-13 07:31:50 ( ID:1iejbazj1k. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have some MKVs where it uses AAC audio instead of AC3. If I convert those to DVD, would TDA support AAC? If not, what should I do in order to keep Dolby Digital?

B_Racer  2004-09-13 08:56:56 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There's no support for AAC because AAC isn't Part of the DVD-Standard. Search for a good Tool to split the Audio-Parts in Channel-WAVs and encode them as AC3 by using BeSweet.

Sakuya  2004-09-13 09:17:26 ( ID:1iejbazj1k. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am not familiar with AAC at all. I'm pretty sure it only has Dolby Digital Stereo, not 5.1 since it's not an action flick.

I wonder if theres anyone in here that know anything about the TEMPGenc DVD authoring 1.6 software. I just downloaded a trial version but it seems quite limited though it seems to be stucked with already finished templates of backgrounds and buttons. Anyone out there that know more than me?

J

ashy  2004-09-15 21:39:03 ( ID:od.oqrlav66 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The TMPG Menu is not limited by any means. In fact it is one of the easiest menu creators I have used and the possiblities are there for a very good menu if you desire it.
You can create motion menus and motion thumbnails, you can add your own buttons and backgrounds. You can change the size, colour and position of any of the buttons, thumbnails or headings quite easily by just dragging them where you want them.

I have created some wicked looking motion menus with this software and in a much quicker time than some other software.

It's simple only you need do is first select 'New theme'. Then select a layout to start with then start from there. If you wish to change anything simply click on that particular item. For instance lets say you prefer to use your own buttons.
Click the existing button then find the image you wish to replace it with. The same goes for backgrounds and thumbnails, simply click the one you want to change.
If you want to move or resize anything then just click the 'Edit menu theme button'. When done just 'OK' it.

Question - TE25 - computer crashed, how do i re-download what i've already paid for? No.42278
silentslayer  2004-09-11 17:29:08 ( ID:cddf1riyzwj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I purchased the TMPGEnc 2.5 download version about a month ago and my computer crashed recently and I lost everything. How do I go about redownloading it? I can't contact support because it requires a serial number which I don't have anymore! I also never registered because I had just gotten it but I can't create an account without the serial number! Help!

ashy  2004-09-15 20:57:54 ( ID:od.oqrlav66 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Of course you can still contact support.
If you did indeed legitimately purchase a serial code then just tell them your case and your reasons for not having a serial code.
I'm sure they will still have your email address on file that they sent the original serial to.
If they find that your case is satifactory I'm sure they will oblige by resending the code to the same email address.

I'm running Windows XP Pro on a Gateway Mediacenter with 69 GB available.
Anyone have any ideas?????

Question - TE30 - Divx5 problems No.53300
DOGG  2004-09-10 09:40:05 ( ID:fvg6olb5ns. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a 3 hour avi file encoded with divx5. I set everything up in 2.5 and it was encoding fine until almost the end where it gave me a message, "invalid scanline" or something similar and stopped the encoding. Would've been nice to have a 'skip frame' option. But no, it made the whole thing useless.

The avi plays fine in players.

So i grabbed 3.0 because you can cut out parts of the movie. I was just going to test if it could encode the bad part and if it couldn't, i'd cut out half a second or so. So when i add the avi to 3.0 and play it in the cutting mode, it won't show a picture, only the 1st frame. When it encodes it just encodes the one frame which stays on screen forever but with sound.

I used DivFix and DivxRepair an neither reported any errors with the file.

I've downloaded and installed the divx codec off the official website just in case something was wrong. Same problem still. So i downloaded a movie trailer off the site. It plays fine but it has no sound. LOL. Opposite problem.

I've also noticed, the trailer is 1:15 but in tmp 3.0 in the 'clip info it reports it as 1813 frames but in the 'cut-edit' when i play it says xxxx/3762 frames.
