Question - TE25 - Fade in/outs not working? No.34591
Ravendark  2003-02-17 02:21:51 ( ID:yui4jzqv74n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I just encoded a DVD video with TMPGenc and when I played it I noticed that all the fades are missing. At the location where there is supposed to be a fade, there is just black video. Everything else works fine though, any clues as to what I might be doing wrong? I'm using the Premiere 6.0 trial version and a frame server (Premiere Video Server) to serve to TMPGEnc. My sources are miniDV tapes in PAL format.

I also tried encoding into DivX using the same setup (Premiere, Frameserver) and then the problem does not exist, so I think it must be TMPGEnc that is stuffing up.

Any help is appreciated! If you want to email me, remove the underscore from the email address :)

Question - TE25 - Conversion Time for .avi file No.34590
kukm66  2003-02-16 23:25:04 ( ID:iurdrqhdypg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just trying to compare time to convert a 300MB .avi file to Mpeg-2 in
TMPGenc. I am running XP 2100 Athlon with 768 Meg of ram and it is taking a good 2.5 to 3 hours plus to encode this. Is this about right.
Any inputs would be appreciated. I am using normal settings for the most part with a few HQ on some.

Hi folks,

I'm trying to fit a large (hour & 1/2) MPEG-2 file onto a regular 4.7 DVD-R. I understand there are compression programs that can do this and not lose much quality - can anybody steer me in the right direction? Thank you in advance!

Yes there is Software for this, And What a Coincidence you just happened to Ask your Question on the Very BBS of a Program that Does that, Now what are the Chances of that? Must be one in a Million!!!

It does Not Matter how Big the AVI File is, it could be 300mb or 3000GB ,That isn"t how Encodeing to Mpeg works, What Matters is How Long the Movie is, and the Resolution of the Output file and Filters used and a Few other things But Generally the Length of the Source file, and what the Source file is Compressed to....Uncompressed AVI will encode Much faster than than Say DiVX or HuffyUV...

Question - TE25 - best hardware setup No.34569
george_zhu  2003-02-16 21:04:48 ( ID:hz6rjbhkmfo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am a DIY with tight budget. I would like to upgrade my PC. TMpgEnc is one of my most important things for this PC. So I would like to maxmize it work. My PC now is athlon xp 2000+, PC2100 256M, 60G 7200RPM ATA100, MSI KT3Ultra2, ATI Radeon 8500LE, Windows 2000 Pro.

So which part should I upgrade mostly to improve the performance of TMpgEnc?

Can anyone give me some ideas about how the TMpgEnc comsume the resourse? Which part of PC is most crucial to its performance.

Minion  2003-02-16 21:56:19 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you Just want Faster encodeing then it would be the CPU that you would Upgrade and next would be Ram, But you allready have a Fairly fast CPU so Maybe you can try a Faster encoder like CCE for Mpeg2 and Maybe MainConcept for Mpeg1.I can do a 2 hour SVCD in Under 2 hours with CCE on my 1.7ghz Intel but Tmpgenc Does have Many More features and is More versitile...

george_zhu  2003-02-17 15:13:03 ( ID:hz6rjbhkmfo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Does the SVCD file rendered in CCE have the similar quality as one yielded in TMpgEnc? I was told TmpgEnc gave the highest quality. I would like to have the high quality.

Ashy  2003-02-17 18:10:25 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There is no better encoder bar none for MPEG2 qualty than CCE.

Sorry I don't understand you. CCE better or TMpgEnc better?

Minion  2003-02-17 19:52:40 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, CCE is a Better Mpeg2 encoder and it is Extremely Fast,But it Lacks the Features that Tmpgenc has Like it does not have the Choice of filters that Tmpgenc has and in Most cases you have to frame serve the Files to CCE because it does not re-size the resolution, and CCE is 40 times more expensive but the Quality is extremely good and it supports up to 9 pass encodeing and it produces very good Quality at low bitrates....

Minion  2003-02-18 06:07:50 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There are 3 or 4 ways to Frame serve to CCE, if you are Ripping a DVD or encodeing a Mpeg2 file to Mpeg with CCE I use DVD2AVI then use AVISynth to frame serve the D2V files to CCE, you can Use Gordain Knot as a Front end for AVISynth if you don"t know how to write AVISynth Scripts..And you can use Virtual Dub to frameserve AVI files to CCE and there are a couple Versions of Virtual Dub that will accept Mpeg2/Vob files to frameserve to CCE..And there is a Way to use Tmpgenc and Vfapi converter to Frame serve any format that Tmpgenc will accept to CCE..All Methods work very well But AVISynth is the Fastest way to do it...

I have recently formated and freshly installed win xp pro as my second operating system but in enviromental settings under vfapi i dont see the option for the ligos mpeg2 decoder anymore, do i have install a certain codec to see this option.

Mail me a.koning14@chello.nl
And don't forget we need subtitles for the public in Holland or some people won't know what there talking about!
Whe need MPG because our standalone DVD-players play it all as VCD or SVCD.
I hoop i hear from you.

I'd start with searching the site WWW.DVDRHELP.COM. They have good tutorials there. Once started come back and you will be able to ask more specific questions to what you are trying to do.

First make sure you have the Proper Codecs Installed and if you do have the Right codecs then try this "Go to "Options" to "Enviromental Settings" to "Vfapi Plugins" and raise the "Direct show File reader" to "2"...

Can someone tell me how I get TMPG to convert .mov files to mpeg? Also, is it possible to get it to convert .rm files to? Thanks in advance.

Ashy  2003-02-16 15:22:03 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need the Quicktime plugin to convert mov files.
TMPG will not RM files. you eill have to convert to AVI first with Tinra or RM Converter.

Question - TE25 - Error Message No.34549
Kontrast  2003-02-16 12:53:04 ( ID:slojngrrb/. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Okay, whenever I try to convert an avi file, I'll try it the first time, and it'll give me->>

"Read error occurred at address BFF6A285 of module KERNEL32.DLL with 0395EFOC"

When I try it the second time, it'll give me ->>

"Read error occurred at address BFF6A285 of module KERNEL32.DLL with 007DFF60"

And when I try it the third time, the conversion will start for about a second, and then it'Ll give me an error message where I am forced to shut the program down. IT keeps on doing this, all the time. I try it 3 times, then I have to exit the program. Can anybody help me with this? I need to know what the problem here is. Thanks.

Question - TE25 - Conversion of DV-AVI, Quality bad No.34542
NoPlayBack  2003-02-16 12:48:42 ( ID:4mndxgcw2oh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Since months i have this problem: conversion from DV-AVI to MPEG results in bad quality.
I have tried several tricks (like reducing lines, applying filters...) but there is no improvement.
So i would like to ask again in this board, if anybody has suggestions to improve the quality.
I have no problems with other sources... it is really the DV-Source which is making the problems.
I did a search here... but i did only find other people having the same problem, but no suggestions.

Anybody?

Ashy  2003-02-16 15:25:16 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What do you mean by bad quality.
Is it low resolution? Is there blockiness? What?

ASHY

Rick  2003-02-17 22:20:46 ( ID:tgwez0zez9r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Don't forget the golden rule either...Garbage in Garbage out! How's the source's quality?

Rick

NoPlayBack  2003-02-18 06:43:48 ( ID:ytzsl1mvbdw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Blockiness, blurry... where the source quality is excellent.
Seems like the source is much too detailed and has too much informations in, so the bitrate-limit is always reached.
I have already seen suggestions like using only half of the lines as input, in order to reduce the source-informations to give the encoder a chance.
I know many people having this problem... and i have also seen some message here in the board, but i still do not have the solution.
Ripping DVD and converting to VCD gives me excellent quality, but using DV as input and converting to SVCD has much less quality.
There are also some hints in magazines like using filters... all the hints have one common approach: Reducing quality and informations of the source in order to not overload the encoder.
If you would be able to grap a piece of DV-AVI and would try to encode, then you would immediatly see the difference.

Ashy  2003-02-18 18:12:40 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Have you ever tried frame serving the file form something like Virtualdub or AVIsynth and reducing the resolution of the file prior to encoding.

I did use VirtualDub to extract only half of the lines (one suggestion from a magazin) or lowering the resolution. But i did not frameserve, i simply created a new file and used that as input to TMPGEnc.... what shouldn't be a difference.
I did not see a big difference to using TMPGEnc with build-in filters.
Using filters like noise reduction do have an effect... but they do definitly not heal the world. The more i apply this filter, the better i come around the blockiness-problem.... but then you start to see the effect of the filter, which also reduces quality then.
Because of the very big difference in quality (compared with DVD-source) i am still looking for a setting which helps much more...
And i definitly did not try all available filters and tricks... because this is a very time-consuming work...
