Question - TE25 - how to convert without changing aspect ratio / video dimensions No.34614
throwithere  2003-02-18 01:49:52 ( ID:2thlhlrhy3a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i can't find a way to convert the video to mpeg without changing any other video settings. i want to retain the video dimensions. how do i do it?

Minion  2003-02-18 06:13:56 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well to do this you load in your File and look at the source aspect ratio then set the output aspect ratio to what the source aspect ratio is, then set the Resolution to what the resolution of you source file is..But if your Source file has a Resolution other than the Standard resolution for what you are trying to make (VCD/SVCD/DVD) it probably will not play on your DVD Player..and the Output resolution has to be divisible by 8 or Tmpgenc will give you an error....

throwithere  2003-02-18 06:24:08 ( ID:2thlhlrhy3a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

that is what i'm saying, tmpgenc won't accept resolution values which are not divisible by 8 but i don't want to change the source resolution.

Minion  2003-02-18 07:47:32 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It is Impossible to Have a Mpeg file with a Resolution that is not Divisable By 8..ALL Mpeg files have to have a Resolution divisible by 8 that is Part of the Mpeg standard, there is NO Way around it with ANY Encoder...

throwithere  2003-02-18 08:23:56 ( ID:2thlhlrhy3a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

oh, ok. i didn't know that. so how do i pad my video with black to make it's resolution divisible by 8? i do not want to stretch or cut any part of my videos.

Minion  2003-02-18 09:50:51 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well you can try This, set the Resolution to the Closest you can to the resolution of your source file but scale it up Not down, then under "Video arrange Method" set it to "Custom" then put in the resolution of your source file..This should just add a Black boarder for the extra pixels..If you made these files your self then next time choose a Resolution that conforms to Mpeg standards,...

throwithere  2003-02-18 10:42:29 ( ID:2thlhlrhy3a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i did not create those files. i was just converting video clips i got from the net.

Question - TE25 - Multiplex : Video-CD VS. Video-CD [Non Standard] No.34612
Sacrifice  2003-02-17 23:57:48 ( ID:oozixb9fwbw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hey guys,

Just curious to know the difference between multiplexing with "Video-CD" and "Video-CD [Non-Standard]"?

I am using multiplexing to create an Xvcd because my DVD player can't play sVCDs. What is the best option to use for this scenario and why?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sacrifice

Minion  2003-02-18 05:55:46 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The "Video CD Non-Standard" setting is for exactly for that ,Muxing Non-Standard VCD files, non-standard meaning vcd"s with Higher than Standard or Lower than VCD standard Bitrates..The regular VCD setting will not remove any Padding in the VCD stream or it will add Padding if the Bitrate is Lower than the VCD Standard..If you are useing the Multiplex to Change the header of a SVCD so you can Play it on a DVD Player that doesn"t play SVCD"s then you should use the "NON-Standard" setting because it sure isn"t a Standard VCD..But don"t you get a "Buffer Underflow" error when doing this????

when i encode avi into mpeg for a vcd the video comes out choppy at times, why is this happening and what can i do to fix it

Ashy  2003-02-17 23:53:22 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Depends what you mean by choppy.
If it's at regular intervals then it is because you have changed the frame rate.

If it's random then it is either your burn speed which is too high, I always recommend 4x but try 8x if you wish or it is your bitrate which is too high.

Question - TE25 - Stream writing error No.34607
Jim P  2003-02-17 18:06:34 ( ID:rsutvef/elh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I go to convert an avi and I have everything ready to go, it starts showing the avi to be converted then I get a stream writing error. What does that mean and how can I stop it.

Ashy  2003-02-17 23:55:30 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Make sure there is enough space to write the file. This includes the TMPG 'Temp' folder.

I think I have it fixed. For some reason when I convert an avi to mpeg i get the stream writing error. I close out the program and try again it works just fine. Must be a little bug. Thanks for the help

george_zhu  2003-02-17 16:58:30 ( ID:hz6rjbhkmfo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I am rendering VCD and SVCD, I can choose VBR or CBR. Which one has a better quality when I play it back? Is there any other consideration for these like file size or encoding time?

VCR(CQ)is A more efficient method of encodeing and the Quality will be better and the File size will be smaller...

pakolainen  2003-02-17 15:42:05 ( ID:oubv6g6s1pk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

yeah, check the box that says " automatically shut down after encoding"

Raymond  2003-02-17 22:13:43 ( ID:xwm4e7cr5sf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Rather than press start, select "Output To File" and the "Close after finished" check box will appear

Question - TE25 - BLACK SCREEN No.34596
amandalovesnin  2003-02-17 06:10:19 ( ID:rc7tfitfty2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Everytime I go to encode some avi files that I downloaded all I get is a black screen. I'm having a lot of trouble with this, other programs say they dont recognise the file or that an error occurs in encoding, this program encodes, but with - no video or audio -! please help!

Thanks so much
~Amanda

Minion  2003-02-17 08:25:30 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

First you have to make sure you have the correct Codec installed, and if there is No Image in the Tmpgenc window while encodeing then there will be no Image in the File..Try This, Go to "Options" to "Enviromental Settings" to "Vfapi Plugins" and Raise the "Direct Show Multi-Media File Reader" to "2" and see if that helps with the Video, But if you get no audio you probably need to First extract the audio to Wav format from the Source file with Something like "Virtual Dub" or "AVI-Mux" then use the WAV file as the audio source...

Question - TE25 - Problems with author of DVD No.34592
Uwe  2003-02-17 05:54:22 ( ID:qsh3ogabyt. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,

I tried to make a DVD using TMPGEnc. I choiced in the wizzard DVD and the mv2 and wav- files were made. Then I used IFOEDIT. The result was that the video speed was too fast.

What can be the reason ?

Uwe

Minion  2003-02-17 08:21:21 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Did you try Playing the M2V file on your Computer to see if it Played Correctly???? If it does Then it isn"t a Tmpgenc Problem..

Rick  2003-02-17 22:11:36 ( ID:tgwez0zez9r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I use Dazzle to convert my files and build a DVD. Once loaded you can play the movie within Dazzle. You might try this to check the sound sync. I've built and burned several this way with no problems on my Pioneer DVR-105.

Rick

Uwe  2003-02-18 11:49:24 ( ID:dyhjfbb4zrj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

mv2-file runs well. It seems to be a problem of the bitrate. If I change the bitrate in the TMPGEnc DVD-template to "constant bitrate" the DVD made by IFOEdit is okay.

Question - TE25 - Fade in/outs not working? No.34591
Ravendark  2003-02-17 02:21:51 ( ID:yui4jzqv74n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I just encoded a DVD video with TMPGenc and when I played it I noticed that all the fades are missing. At the location where there is supposed to be a fade, there is just black video. Everything else works fine though, any clues as to what I might be doing wrong? I'm using the Premiere 6.0 trial version and a frame server (Premiere Video Server) to serve to TMPGEnc. My sources are miniDV tapes in PAL format.

I also tried encoding into DivX using the same setup (Premiere, Frameserver) and then the problem does not exist, so I think it must be TMPGEnc that is stuffing up.

Any help is appreciated! If you want to email me, remove the underscore from the email address :)

Question - TE25 - Conversion Time for .avi file No.34590
kukm66  2003-02-16 23:25:04 ( ID:iurdrqhdypg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just trying to compare time to convert a 300MB .avi file to Mpeg-2 in
TMPGenc. I am running XP 2100 Athlon with 768 Meg of ram and it is taking a good 2.5 to 3 hours plus to encode this. Is this about right.
Any inputs would be appreciated. I am using normal settings for the most part with a few HQ on some.
