I am still using Authoringworks 4 (the latest version). The disk writer recognizes my BD ROM and my BD writer properly. When I am authoring a disk, howeveer, the output stage only recognizes my BD ROM as a writer and does not recognize my BD writer at all. How do I correct this?

Anyone know whether TAW5 will successfully open TAW4 projects? Can't test this in TAW5 trial.

Yes, it will. So far, I haven't noticed any problems.

I have tried many different fonts/sizes for Subtitles in TAW4 but no matter which, they all come out on final DVD with jaggy edges. I have white letters with black outline at 5%. Varying font size does not seem to help. I have also turned the "higher bitrate for subtitles" setting to ON, with no help. Any suggestions what combo is best and whether this is normal?

I don't think it can be helped. DVD subtitles aren't anti-aliased, and the lower resolution of DVD (versus Blu-ray) makes the pixels/jagged-edges more apparent. I've never seen smooth DVD subtitles on any commercial DVD so I think it's normal and just a limitation of the format.

I found out that Installing TMPGenc on Windows x64 is the problem.
This program is not only incompatible with x64 but it makes bad quality videos.

No problen here on Win 7/64.

It is only compatible with 64-bit Win 7 systems. Vista/XP are not supported.

cannot add mp3 music to DVD menu background.
i get error:

this often happens when using variable bitrate mp3

try a constant bitrate mp3 or wav or ac3

this mp3 file is constant bite rate (CBR) and it works in TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4 !

No problems here; I can load a mp3 as the bgm without any problem.

Oh yes, that would be a very useful feature. Not all of my "customers" are using BD, so it would be great to create BD and DVD from the same project.

In TAW5 there is a new "Disc setting" button (on the Source Screen) that opens the option to set "character code".

I suggest there should be a "set default" option there.

When I use Swedish standard characters (like å ä ö) in the track title the simulation preview says "Invalid Track name". Same thing with non english characters in chapter names.

When I change the "character code" setting in the "Disc settings" window to the "Central Europe" option, the Swedish characters work fine.

So an option to change the character code default would obviously be an improvement for the community of international users.

Now we have to set it manually for each project.

I hope for a fix in the next update.

When importing Blu-ray to Authoring works 5, Subtitles are messed up.

hi there. i use taw4 quite a bit, and usually for me to author an mpg takes about 5-6 minutes. but yesterday and today, the authoring process has been very slow. 20 minutes some have taken, and some i have had to abort, but the estimated time was running into a couple of hours.

Was that for smart rendering or full rendering? Is your source file DVD/BD compliant?

When after saving a custom template, I found that the "play all" button from the top menu & "close" button on the pop up menu have disappeared.

If I go back through the procedure of setting the the template, both buttons are present, but again disappear if the template is saved.
