Question - TE25 - How to convert OGM to AVI? No.36979
leon  2003-05-21 03:08:58 ( ID:pwmhkfj8a7m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I try to load an OGM movie file into TMPG to convert it into a VCD compatible file and it accepts it but when I start to run it give me the error: "The error occurred when ACM was initialized."

What does that mean and how do I fix it?

Thanks

Minion  2003-05-21 22:19:03 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Tmpgenc Doesn"t support OGM Files, But you Can Probably use "Virtual Dub_Mod" to convert OGM Files...

gmoney  2003-05-26 04:11:14 ( ID:scy380npdfr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

it's true, tmpg does not support ogm

what you can do is to convert the video only with tmpg

you can rip the sound to a separate file with another program such as goldwave.

and then combine the two with tmpg in the mpg.

1. Non standard DVD resolution override. Allow for user to override the standard resolution. may dvd players support non standard formats. In fact most ALL limits should be removed and replaced with warnings.

2. Also a few more menu templates and ability to move the placement of the 'picture' of the video within the menu. Maybe even release a menu template creator. so that users who need custom templates can make their own. Also allow users to post thier templates to your website so that people can swap their created templates. It allows greater flexability and the users would do most of the work for you.

Otherwise an exelent and fast product. I like this much much better for creating custom DVD's from VHS and homemovies...I've used almost every product out there (DVDit PE, adobe, pinnacle, etc...) and i like this one because I like to control the video/audio compression seperate (via TMPGEnc or CCE) and then build my dvd's with an automated program trying to recompress or alter my settings.

Very good product will be excellent with just a few more additions and improvements.

Question - TE25 - Problem with MOV files and sound No.36968
scottws  2003-05-20 23:51:27 ( ID:knkidtxkexh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am trying to convert Quicktime movies to DivX for use on my PC. I found that TMPGEnc can do what I want, which is get the audio out of MOV files (I am using RAD Tools to convert the MOV video to AVI video and plan on using VirtualDub to combine the AVI video from RAD Tools and the WAV audio from TMPGEnc).

However, I can't get the audio out of MOV files. I have the QT plug-in in C:Program FilesPegasisTMPGEnc (or whatever TMPGEnc's default install location is).

I get no audio on encoding. Just a blank WAV file. If I try to use the audio editor before encoding, there is no sound. There is sound if I try to use another file type other than MOV as the source.

HELP!

Minion  2003-05-21 01:33:24 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This has been Quite a Common Problem lately, I think it is Because the QT Mov Plugin hasn"t been updated since it"s release over a year an a half ago and the Author doesn"t do any Improvements on it anymore and The author of Tmpgenc has nothing to do with the QT Plugin,Maybe it isn"t compatible with Quicktime 6
??, You could try raiseing the Priority of the QT Plugin in the VFAPI Plugins and see if that Helps, I have used "Sound Forge 6" to Get audio out of Mov files, You could probably use it to Convert Directly from Mov to DivX....

scottws  2003-05-21 02:09:26 ( ID:knkidtxkexh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I presumed as much. It's a shame that MOV conversion is next to impossible with QT6. I wish there would be a new plug-in or something. You know there are some coders out there that would want to convert a MOV file to DivX.

I'll give Sound Forge 6.0 a shot.

Thanks.

B_Racer  2003-05-21 10:50:01 ( ID:gxmkoa4dlnj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I did not test it on newer Quicktime-Files, but maybe radtools are a solution for converting MOV to AVI.

http://www.radgametools.com/

scottws  2003-05-21 21:56:38 ( ID:knkidtxkexh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I had already tried RAD Tools. It converts the video fine. However, if I attempt to convert MOV audio and video to AVI at the same time, the program crashes. If I try to convert MOV audio to WAV audio only, it says it cannot find the audio stream.

I have learned that Quicktime has a form of audio protection that prevents copying or conversion.

I tried Total Recorder, but it doesn't seem to work very well. When I put the TR WAV file (from the MOV) in an AVI container with AVI video converted from the same MOV, the sound doesn't sync up if you fast-forward or rewind the video.

I'm at a loss here. I am going to try Sound Forge 6 and Adobe Premiere 6.5 next.

Minion  2003-05-21 22:16:54 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, Um A Program called "EO-Video" also converts Mov to AVI/Mpeg, the Mpeg encodeing isn"t that good But I"m sure the AVI Encodeing isn"t too Bad ,Just another Think to put on your List of things to try....Cheers

B_Racer  2003-05-22 11:19:50 ( ID:gxmkoa4dlnj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

@scottws
Oops, i missed your writing about RADTools, sorry.

@Minion
I tried EO-Video with one of those Animatrix-Videos. It did not work. Got the Video, but not the Audio-Part.

scottws  2003-05-22 15:52:58 ( ID:knkidtxkexh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

So the problem is Quicktime 6 then. Either Apple has done a great job preventing people from ripping the audio out of QT6 files or no one has made a program yet that takes QT6 into account.

Adobe Premiere won't work. It also only works with QT4 and QT5.

scottws  2003-05-22 16:37:17 ( ID:knkidtxkexh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Success!

Sonic Forge 6 works perfectly!

Minion  2003-05-22 20:54:27 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I knew it would as it is an exelent Audio/Video tool, I"m glad it worked out...

scottws  2003-05-23 00:29:03 ( ID:knkidtxkexh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Oops. I meant Sound Forge 6 not Sonic Forge 6.

Anyway, it works 90% of the time. However, it isn't working for the Animatrix MOVs. Those seem to have more than one audio track. Two specifically: one for the title sequence and one for the rest of the movie. SF6 seems to only find the latter track.

But it's better to have 50MB DivX files instead of 100MB MOV files for everything else I have.

Question - TE25 - Still problems with synchronization video to voice No.36966
frank  2003-05-20 21:13:39 ( ID:3xk75co6d0g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Here I am again. Using AVI video capture card I have captured a video segment in MPG format (MPEG1). I am now using the Tools/ MPEG option to edit the clip. I hae identified the beginning and end of the clip to be saved. When I play the saved clip the audio and video are out of synch.

I have tried to then go through the wizard and manipulate the sound using the add/ detract sound miliseconds but this seems to do no good. What should I be doing?

Minion  2003-05-21 01:23:01 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You are Probably not doing anything wrong, The Merge & cut Isn"t the Most acurate editor there is and it oficially only supports the acurate editing of Files that were encoded with Tmpgenc, and it doesn"t acurately edit VBR Mpeg streams..You might best be off trying a Different Mpeg editor, if you are useing Mpeg1 then you can Probably find a freeware mpeg1 editor that will give you better results than tmpgenc"s editor..Another thing that sometimes can cause sync Problems in Captured Mpeg files after editing is that some Capture Software will add padding to the stream to compensate for dropped frames, so when editing/re-Muxing the Padding can get removed which causes the File to go out of sync, But I have only heard of this with PVR satalite cards...If you are Planning on Re-encodeing this File anyways you can edit out the Comercials by Useing the Cut editing feature in the "Source Range"......

Rick Brown  2003-05-19 23:53:59 ( ID:t4raxhpodyg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There is no help available on the free version. I need to know which options to use under VIDEO ARRANGE METHOD and SOURCE ASPECT RATIO, on the Advanced tab in the Settings.

B_Racer  2003-05-20 10:15:30 ( ID:gxmkoa4dlnj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Download the Plus-Version, and you have all the Help you need. :)
You have not to purchase the Plus-Version to use the Help-Function.

Minion  2003-05-20 20:13:08 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The "Source Aspect Ratio" is NOT a Setting for YOU to Adjust, Tmpgenc adjusts this to the Correct aspect ratio automaticly, which is the aspect ratio of the file you have loaded into it..Usually "Full Screen Keep Aspect Ratio" is the Best setting in the "Video arange Method"....

B_Racer  2003-05-20 21:51:37 ( ID:dxp41zyyfu. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

@Minion
To be correct: It is the best setting, if you use TMPGEnc directly. But if you use a frameserving tool like AVISynth or VirtualDub, often Full Screen or Center may be the best Settings.

As an Example: If i'm Capturing from PAL VCR, i'm using the Crobbing-Function of VirtualDub to cut off the flickering lines at the Bottom of the Video (result: 704x560).
If i load this Video into TMPGEnc, it says, the Video has 1:1 VGA Aspect Ratio, which is incorrect. So Full Screen Keep Aspect Ratio is also incorrect. I have to use center to make it right.

Minion  2003-05-21 01:06:27 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well that is Why I said "Usually", I personally use "Center Custom size" and set the Image to the Correct aspect Ratio, But everyone Does something different But as a General Rule your File will usually look OK with this setting But you can usually get something better if you Experiment a Little But Poeple Don"t want Long Drawn out Answers then want what will work...

Mpeg-2 480x576 25fps CQ_VBR 50, layer-2 44100HZ 224kbps

doesn't make my 680 AVI file small enough. Suggestions ??

B_Racer  2003-05-20 10:21:00 ( ID:gxmkoa4dlnj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try 2pass-Encoding with the Bitrate, a good Bitrate-Calculator will give to you (like FitCD).

The Bitrate you need depents on the Play-lenght of the Video. For Example:
To fill a DVD with 2 Hours, 30 Minutes of Video, you can use 3900 kbps AVG for Video and 192 kbps for Audio (i suggest you to use AC3 2-Channel, can be produced by the Freeware BeSweet).

Possible 2pass-Settings:
6000 Max.
3900 AVG.
2000 Min.

Minion  2003-05-20 20:03:35 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you are Makeing a DVD "480+576" is Not the Correct Resolution and you would have a Hard time Getting a File with that Resolution on to a DVD, this is the Resolution for Pal SVCD..You would have to use either "352+576, 352+288, or 720+576" ,And the Fact that your AVI file is 680MB has No bearing on how big the Mpeg file will be, your AVI file can Be 100MB or 1000GB, what Matters is How Long the Movie is, A 2 hour Movie at an average Bitrate of about 5000kbs should fit on a Single 4.7gb DVD-R with Mpeg or AC3 audio at 224kbs, Probably about 4000kbs with Wav audio, a Bitrate calculator would help you determine what bitrate you should use for the length of your Movie and size of Medium...

gbagman37  2003-05-21 06:06:59 ( ID:gfs3fzybyzl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

So many things wrong with what you are trying to do. A Dvd has to have a sampling rate of 48000. and you should use a bitrate of 384 for audio. Use the wizard to automatically adjust your video bitrate to fit on a 4.7 GB DVD. You can usally go to 103 to 104 % capacity and still fit it as TMpenc doen'y do a very good job of this

Question - TE25 - Splitting MPEG's No.36949
JHaigwood  2003-05-19 20:43:43 ( ID:x7eid5jjvhf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I just downloaded a ripped copy of "The Matrix" and I'm trying to get it so that I can put it on VCD. The original format was an avi so I downloaded a converter and now I've got a copy in mpeg that I have tested and works. Unfortunately the mpeg file is too big to put on a single disk so I need to split into 2.

Here's my problem. I used TMPGENC.exe and tried to see if I can get it to split. I set the exact split location I wanted and ran it. It should of then made a single cut of the mpeg for roughly 540MB's but when i opened up the cut. It was only 11MB's long and like 20 minutes into the beginning of the movie. No where close to where I had set it up to be cut. Now this is the second time this has happened with 2 different peices of software. Is this some sort of registration issue where i have to pay something in order to get a cut of the size i'm looking for or is something just not working right?

Also I'm curious as to how I'd convert the size of the mpeg down. Currently the dimmensions are around 640X4?? or something like that. If understood correctly, I need to cut it down to a 352x2?? to be able to be viewed right when played. How would I be able to do this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If possible, email me with the answer. JHaigwood@Hotmail.com. If not, I'll just keep checking back for your help. Thanks in advance.

Minion  2003-05-19 21:56:53 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well the Movie should be in Mpeg format and at 352+240/288-pal before you even tried to cut it in Half with Tmpgenc..You just take the Original AVI file and Load it into Tmpgenc and choose the Correct VCD template and encode it, then it should be at the correct resolution then you can use the "Merge & Cut" in the Mpeg Tools to cut the File in Half...

JHaigwood  2003-05-19 22:00:31 ( ID:x7eid5jjvhf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I used WinMPG to convert the original AVI to VCD so maybe that was my problem. I'll try it using TMPENC this time I guess.

JHaigwood  2003-05-19 22:11:36 ( ID:x7eid5jjvhf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yeah, I've got the conversion running now. Geeze, when i converted it last night using WinMPG it took like 8 hours, this one only takes an hour and sets it in the needed format. Sweet! In case you hadn't noticed I've never done a VCD before. I'm gonna be making it with Nero. Did a test run using the new World of Warcraft trailer to see if I can actually make a VCD and have it be viewed on my DVD player. It works, unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to get the menu working. Hmm. Thanks for the help though.

JHaigwood  2003-05-19 22:43:17 ( ID:x7eid5jjvhf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

its not converting the whole avi file to mpeg now, could it be that the version of TMPGEnc isn't a full version and only limits to so many megs of a file. Or did i do something wrong when trying to convert to mpeg and its only doing the first 30 megs of the file and wont do any more? I'm so confused now. :(

Minion  2003-05-20 20:08:24 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well this Can Be From a Number of things..Did you get an error?? Did it Just Crash?? What type of AVI file is it?? Did you get it off of the net Cuz Many Downloaded Movies are Corrupted???If it is a Xvid File you might be better off useing the FFDShow Decoder to decode the file..As you Probably noticed there is a lot to makeing VCD/SVCD"s especially if something goes wrong which does quite often when dealing with Downloaded DivX or XviD files...

Kisoo Lim  2003-05-29 05:32:52 ( ID:rgy7xoobqxr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

First TMPGEnc has no limit on mpeg-1 encoding but limit on mpeg-2(svcd/dvd). So you may have file error. Also if the source avi file has ac3 audio, tmpgenc can't handle it. I recommend you to use AVI2SVCD software which extract audio from avi source and encode it to mp2 audio and automatically encode video with tmpgenc and mux it using bbmpeg.

I found matrix 2 mpg file(svcd) but it was pal format. So I demultiplexed and encoded video as ntsc format and muxed them, burned them to 2 svcd. Now it works file. SVCD is much better than vcd.

Good Luck!

I'm having the same issues with my Polaroid Digital Camera. How do you find out what format the camera produces. ie, DV1, DV2 etc.

Minion  2003-05-23 08:46:10 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Use something like "GSpot" it will tell you everything about your AVI file But I"m sure it is Type 1 DV as Most use Type 1 DV these days...Just download a Couple DV codecs and see if that helps...

Scott  2003-05-18 22:56:29 ( ID:d.s4fbg4bfl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ok, how exactly does normalize work? does it compare all the files I am encoding and average them? how would I make a mass amount of files all the same? just put set it the same # all the time? also.. what happens if you change the volume settings on your computer in between normalizes? would that change what is "normal"?

Thanks

Minion  2003-05-19 04:06:31 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Normalize Just Averages out the audio for the File that is loaded into it, The Volume settings on your Computer have nothing to do with the Audio levels inside the Audio File...

lwc  2009-10-16 21:54:30 ( ID:mfoh699waq2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Let's say I have a clip that's too quiet. What do I do with normalize once I'm inside Audio Edit? It goes between 0%-100% but what does it mean?

Likewise for a clip that's too loud.

Question - TE25 - What is the difference between the models in The audio Channels No.36934
The History  2003-05-18 19:59:22 ( ID:l5iudigv3eh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have found that there are three chioces in the audio channel in the setting.
Stereo, joint-stereo and dual-channel.
I'm converting Dvd to vcd but what is the difference between stereo and joint-stereo?
I have read something related to this issue but the one who answered just said it depends on what you wnat????
please I need to know what is the difference between them?

Minion  2003-05-18 22:15:20 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well sterio is the Right chanell comeing out the Right speaker and the Left chanell comeing out the Left speaker, Joint sterio is Both the Left and Right Chanells being Played out of each Speaker, and Dual Chanell is one audio track Being Played out of one speaker and a Seperate audio track being played out the other so when Panning to the Right you can get a different audio track as when you pan to the Left..Just stick With Sterio for most Movies...

B_Racer  2003-05-19 12:14:17 ( ID:gxmkoa4dlnj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

@Minion

Your explanation of Joint Stereo isn't right. What you descriped is Mono, not Stero or Joint Stereo.
Joint Stereo is a methode to save bitrate. It mixes right and left channel only for compression. If the right Channel can be compressed higher than the left, Joint Stereo use the "extraspace" for Data from the left channel (an vice versa). A Decompressed Joint Stereo-File will be in Stereo.

Minion  2003-05-19 21:49:58 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I"m sure Your Probably Correct,But how can you save bitrate when doing CBR audio encodeing???

B_Racer  2003-05-20 10:13:28 ( ID:gxmkoa4dlnj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hehe, good Question. Joint Stereo is designed for low Bitrates. It does not realy save Bitrate, but does a better use of the given Bitrate.

Work's like this:
Encoder: Hey, there's a part in the left Channel that can be encodet with only 128 kbps instead of 192 kbps, and hey, there's also a Part in the right channel that need's more than 192 kbps, so why i don't use the Space in the left for the overhead of the right channel?

OK, it's not an exact description, but the best i can write in english... ;)
