Can anyone tell me what Multiplexing is.

Thnks

Multiplexing is the joining of a Video and audio stream...

hhh  2002-11-24 02:26:21 ( ID:7r.4bij3mnm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I need to encode about 50-60 min video onto a CD. What will be the best seting for encoding: 352-240 and higher birate than standard VCD, or SVCD format (480x480 with VBR)?

Minion  2002-11-24 05:53:29 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well if you want to make a SVCD then you will be useing a lower Bitrate than Standard....What you need is a "Bitrate Calculator"......look for one on "Google"..

Question - TE25 - import dvd2avi.vfp No.31156
stephen rodgers  2002-11-23 21:02:06 ( ID:8yfrh0k0y/a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I cannot open my dv2 file or movie file!
I read on a previous post to import the dvd2avi.vfp file into Tmpg directory, I think Im being stupid but how do you do this?

Minion  2002-11-23 22:45:38 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Look inside the "DVD2AVI" folder and you will see a File called "DVD2AVI.vfp" Copy and paste this file into the "Tmpgenc" folder..that is it..But there is no need to do this if the "DVD2AVI.vfp" plugin is showing in the "Vfapi Plugins"..Go to "options" to "Enviromental Settings" to "Vfapi Plugins" and look for the plugin in the list..if it isn"t there then you need to copy and paste the DVD2AVI.vfp" file into the "Tmpgenc" Folder...another thing you have to remember is that you can not moove or Delete any of the VOB files or D2V file from were they are or it won"t work..and if in the end everything looks fine but tmpgenc still won"t accept the D2V file then you should try makeing a New D2V file...

Question - TE25 - tv capture problems No.31150
jurtje  2002-11-23 17:35:23 ( ID:hqkny9pqgkh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

This doesn't really concern TMPG, but I can't find a solution for my problem anywhere, so I'll try and ask it here.

I have an ATI allinwonder rage pro. I want to use it as a digital VCR, however:
-The picture recorded is alwasy shaking, no matter what codec I use (or waht settings in that codec) (usually divx 5) or which program (ati's program, FlyDS)
-The audio is never synched (I can't get it better with virual dub or avi info tool, because the speed of the audio (or video) seems to vary)
I have the latest ati drivers installed, running XP on a PIII 550 300 mb ram.

Can somebody please help me?

ASHY  2002-11-23 19:29:52 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

How do you mean shaking? Do you mean it jerks?
This could be due to dropped frames. Try dropping the bitrate setting and the resolution down to 352x240 because on your system there isn't enough CPU power to cope with high bitrates and high resolutions.

Minion  2002-11-23 22:34:06 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

With your System you shouldn"t try to capture with the DivX-5 codec, it is a Very CPU intensive Codec for Video capture..Even on My 1.87ghz I can"t capture with DivX at pretty much any resolution...A good Low CPU codec to use is "Pic-Video Mjpeg" and it produces Quite good Quality Files, but the files are a lot bigger than a DivX file so you will need to have at least 5-7gb per hour of video at 352+240 on 18 quality..And with your Card you would be better off useing Genaric WDM Drivers and Capture with Virtual Dub cuz it is one of the best and only programs that properly Keeps Sync with the time lag between your Capture card and your sound card, and properly compensates for Dropped frames.. I use a ATI TV Wonder(Conexant BT878A) and useing the ATI Drivers and software I couldn"t capture at very high resolutions or Bitrates and the Quality of what I could Capture was Marginal..But after I switched to Genaric WDM Drivers I can Capture at 756+576 without dropping frames with Quite good Quality....Just a sugestion?

ASHY  2002-11-24 14:12:31 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I agree that changing the drivers will make a difference, especially, as Minion points out, if the the drivers are locked to a maximum frame size like the crappy ones I got with my WinTV Go card.
I changed to the tweaked WDM drivers below and the capture performance of the card increased.

WDM drivers work best on a Win2000/XP system and much better than the old VFW drivers which is what you usually use on a Win98/ME system.

Having said this Virtualdub is a good program, but is now a bit outdated as far as capturing is concerned. Virtualdub is a VFW only capture program and thus means performance won't be as high a WDM capture program.

The best WDM program I have used so far for capturing (and believe me I've tried most of them) is IUVCR.
The performance and features of this program are excellant, it also has options for synching the audio.
There are also tweaked drivers on the site which will work with any BT848/878 card.

Get it here: http://www.iulabs.com/eng/index.shtml

Also regarding the DIVX 5 codec.
I actually do use this codec for all my capturing because of it's de-interlacing and progressive capturing abilties.
My P4 1.7 can capture to 720x576 at full quality with this codec without dropping frames or sychronization.

It is also possible to use it with your system as I used to on my old P3 500.
just make sure you select 352x240 as your resolution and change the 'Performance/Quality' setting under the 'Advanced' tab to 'Fastest'.
This won't affect the quality of the capture but the file size will be larger.

Another important factor is to make sure your Hard drive is 'defragged'.

Minion  2002-11-24 22:26:38 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I use "Virtual Dub" the Driver is a "WDM Driver" well that is what it says when I go to "Capture AVI" then go to "Video" and at the bottom of the list the Available Drivers are listed and the only driver that is listed says "Microsoft WDM Image Capture(Win32)" the VFW driver seems to only work in "Compaibility Mode".....IUVCR is really Buggy on my system, The Framerate is allways locked at 25fps or lower so It won"t let me capture at 29.975/30fps NTSC.

Question - TE25 - How Do I Fit a Large Movie file onto One VCD? No.31148
Curious  2002-11-23 16:05:39 ( ID:vjcwhpfsk1g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am having trouble fitting an average movie onto one VCD. I lowered the bit rate (after calculating it) but am having 2 problems.

1) It still exceeds 800 MB for an 80 min disc.
2) The movie aspect ratio is not standard. The pictures are elongated, even after I have unlocked the parameters and choosen the ones I typically use.

Can someone please help?
Thanks.

Minion  2002-11-23 22:40:09 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you are lowering the bitrate to lower than VCD standard Bitrates you need to change the "System" setting to "Video-CD Non-Standard" or Tmpgenc will Pad the stream to be VCD compliant so the file size will be the same size ...You could be getting a wierd elongated look Cuz the AVI file has a Non standard Resolution..A Lot of files on the net Have totally Screwed up Resolutions like "640+272" which is a strange looking resolution when converted to VCD...Use the "Clip Frame" settings and the "Video arrange Method" to arange the frames so that they look as you want....

Bug report - TE25 - Encoded Video Does not Play Correctly on Sony DAV450 No.31142
hhh  2002-11-23 15:23:52 ( ID:5g1kb/xepuh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I encoded the video with newest version of TMPGenc, and burn into VCD. Everything is fine on Mintek player, but Sony-DAV450 does not play the video correctly. Is it possible that I missing some settings?

Minion  2002-11-23 22:56:39 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If everything is fine on the Mintek, then it must be a Problem with the Sony...The problem probably is that the Sony is More picky with the type of VCD"s it will play..your VCD could be slightly out of Spec and that is why the Sony is haveing problems with it...I have noticed that the more expensive players are much more picky with the files they will play..I work in a Big chain Electronics store and we get so many poeple comeing in and buying $300-$400 DVD Players and they end up bringing them back in a few days Cuz they won"t properly play there home made VCD/SVCD"s..and they end up exchangeing them for a Cheapo $99 dvd player like a ElectroHome or Mintek or some other cheapo player Cuz they will play non-standard VCD/SVCD"s....

Hi

I have a Sony NS300 DVD and I can use a cdr brand called Magmedia that works very well. I got a lot of help from http://vcdhelp.com/dvdplayers.php. It lists all the dvd players.

hhh  2002-11-24 01:56:15 ( ID:7r.4bij3mnm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The problem only exist on the newest verios of TMPGenc. The video encoded by older version of program has no problem on either DVD player. Is it possible of new implymented INTEL HT Technology?

drew  2002-11-24 08:03:57 ( ID:alnij9bprzo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Have you tried burning it on a CD-RW instead of a CD-R. My dvd player won't play VCDs unless they are on CD-RW.

The new version of TMPG has a bug in it's muxer and could be the reason for your problem.

Question - TE25 - converting screen No.31140
regman  2002-11-23 11:03:26 ( ID:jmiymllqlvf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

when I'm converting a movie to a DVD format, some of the screen turn out to be either square or full screen. How would I convert them to widescreen? I like that format better because it shows more of the picture. Can somebody tell me how to do this? Thanks!!!

ASHY  2002-11-23 12:57:20 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need to change the aspect ratio setting, but without knowing your intended output format I can't tell you which.

Do you intend to watch the movie on a 4:3 TV or 16:9 widescreen TV?

Bug report - TE25 - Opening Mpeg2 Causes TMPGEnc to crash No.31139
Uhoh  2002-11-23 08:48:27 ( ID:lhz5uz6tdga )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I used to be able to open Mpeg2 files with TMPGEnc-2.56.39.143 but I had to reinstall my OS and with the new version, TMPGEnc-2.59.47.155. I tried installing 2 different DVD players (PowerDVD & WinDVD) and also tried using the Ligos mpeg(2) decoder. With PowerDVD & Windvd I get unrecognized format dialog but with the ligos The program just crashes (...has encountered a problem and needs to be closed...)

Any suggestions would be appreciated. My apologies if this question has already been answered. I didnt find the answer when I searched.

Thank You All.

Question - TE25 - Merge & Cut Tool Stops 5 Minutes Into Project No.31134
Kat  2002-11-23 06:47:37 ( ID:x7xyqdvckcm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I downloaded a video file that was already in mpg format. It is over a gig, so I need to split it into either 3 or 4 segments, in order to burn it to CD on Nero. I have tried tried to cut it using the MPEG Tools in 2 different versions of TEMPENGEnc, and even though I set the parameters correctly 40 minutes into the video, once I run the project, it only produces a 5 minute segment.

It goes through all the right steps... producing the video & audio streams and then multiplexing and writing the headers..... but it is NOT the 40 minutes that I set it for.

I then tried to split it with Virtual Dub. When I tried that, I got the following error message: "MPEG Import Filter: packet sync error on packet stream (3396f94)"

It plays just fine on my computer, but I'd like to get it onto CD's.

Anyone ever have this problem, or does anyone have any ideas about what I might try?

Minion  2002-11-23 07:33:30 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well you probably only need to Cut it in 2 Parts Cuz you can fit About 800MB on a 700mb 80 Min CD-r...But if Tmpgenc won"t cut it then there isn"t much you Can do about it accept Use a Real Mpeg editor,...Try "Womble Mpeg2VCR"...

ASHY  2002-11-23 13:03:22 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You are obviously trying to cut ab MPEG2 file and seeing as you downloaded it, it is probably corrupt in some way.
Virtualdub will not open MPEG2 files.

Try and re-multiplex the file first using the 'MPEG2 program (VBR)' stream setting. If that doesn't work install one of the recommended MPEG2 codecs for TMPG and if that doesn't work use another editor like Minion says.

ASHY

Kat  2002-11-30 08:51:33 ( ID:smf4gu30nq6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I sort of put this project aside for a while, because it was frustrating me... but I need to get this movie on to CD's, off my hard drive, and move on.

Thanks for the tips, Minion & Ashy.... but I am afraid I need more of your expertise & ideas, to resolve this one.

I tried to de-multiplex and then multiplex, but it stopped at 5 minutes, just as the MPEG merge & cut tool did (it didn't "stop" per se... it acted as if it were completing a normal project... but it only processed 5 minutes of the video.) I have used TEMPGEnc for many projects, and I have never had this problem.

I don't think the MPEG is corrupt, because I have no problems playing it with WinDVD, Windows media Player, or even in TEMPGEnc.... I paid special attention at the point where the processing was stopping.... and it was fine (or at least LOOKED and SOUNDED fine.) It's really a good quality video, and I'd like to share it with my computer-phobic mother, who will need to view it on her DVD player.

BTW, Ashy, its MPEG 1, according to GSpot.... I bought TEMPGEnc, so my MPEG2 tools work, but that is not even an issue here. GSpot also reported that there were no errors when it processed the file, if that helps.

I downloaded the evaluation version of Womble, and it will not allow me to try out its cutting abilities unless I buy it. VCD Cutter appears to be the same... (it says it can't "find" the file, when I try to set the cutting project up.) Any other evaluation programs that I might try, that will allow me to try out the actual SPLITTING of an MPEG?

ASHY  2002-12-01 18:34:24 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

MPEG2VCR isn't as picky as TMPG or many other MPEG editing programs and has fixed many an MPEG for me.

Use it to re-multiplex the file as an ordinary MPEG and load that into TMPG or use it to do your editing.

Shouldn't really do this, but...

Question - TE25 - How to I put an mpg file ONTO the CD? No.31131

I admit that I'm a dweeb here. I have TMPGEnc, and I have an MPG file. I want to take that MPG file and make a VCD out of it.

Is there anyone who will take pity on the dweeb and tell her **in idiot terms** how to do this? Like, "this is your mouse."

I know just enough to be dangerous.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this, and hopefully to answer.

Ok here is my simple question for you guys seeing that I am pretty much out of my league with this.. I download movies from Kazaa and I was wondering how i can burn them to a disk in VCD format so I can use my VCD/DVD/MP3 home player to view these said movies?? any Help??

Thanks

Well Use Tmpgenc to encode your AVI"s to Mpeg1/VCD then burn them to disk with a program that supports Burning VCD"s....If you are Haveing a specific Problem you should post it instead of asking a Very general Question like "How do I make a VCD out of AVI"s"........
