I've created a 1gb mpeg using the matrox remote (G400 & RR-G) and wish to take out the adverts between each episode (two episodes within the 1gb file I captured).
Not having any other editing software I tried the mpeg tools facility in TMPGEnc.
I loaded the file, and sourced the first half of the first episode, I then loaded the same 1gb file again and sourced the second half (of the first episode). I did this again for the first and second half of the second episode (I therefore had loaded the same 1gb file four times and sourced different parts of it) and hit 'run'.
Everytime I tried this, even though the first clip is ten minutes it only created a 120 sec clip.
I loaded the 1gb file again and this time only sourced the first ten minutes - still it only created a 120 second clip.
Am I doing something wrong?
I was beginning to think the mpeg tools facility in TMPGEnc wasn't designed for this, but as I tried it again only sourcing *one* clip, think I must be doing something wrong.
I've successfully used this program to cut mpegs in the past.
Any idea's are greatly appreciated.

One thing I forgot to mention - I also copied the 1gb file a further three times so I could import four different clips into TMPGenc tools and source different ranges from each one - still the same output of 120secs.

The Mpeg tools only support Mpeg files encoded by Tmpgenc, and even then they don"t work all the time...You are much better off useing a real Mpeg editor, I have been useing Cyberlink Power Director 2.5 lately and it has been working flawlessly for editing Mpeg files..But Womble Mpeg2Vcr is good also accept it seems to add a lot of Padding to the file But it can be removed .....You will get better Quality if you captured to AVI and use the "Cut Editing" feature in the "Source Range" to edit out any part you want to edit....
Hi.
Thanks for the message.
I am familar with the source range facility, but have a query concerning this:
I was under the impression you couldn't source more than one range, for instance I know you can source 200 to 400 of a 1000 frame clip, but what I want to do is source 200 to 400 *and* 600 to 800 at the same time.
Is this possible?
Many thanks,
Will
> The Mpeg tools only support Mpeg files encoded by Tmpgenc
Ah-ha!
I didn't know this!
Now I think about it I didn't actually create an avi. (with the Matrox card) and then encode with TMPGEnc, I captured real time to mpeg1 using an ATI Radeon, perhaps that's why it didn't work as I never ran it through TMPGEnc in the first place.
Can I encode the whole clip using TMPGEnc, and if so, will I lose quality?
Will try source the programs you mentioned, are they available as a demo?
Thanks,
Will
I use adobe premiere to edit my DV avi files. I hear mainconcept's DV codec has better quality than ms DV coded. But I don't think mainconcept's DV codec will help to improve image quality if I output to TMPGenc via frame server(vedioserverpackage 095 from vediotool.net). It only improve if I output in DV avi format. Am I right?
Well the freeware Version isn"t really Freeware, the Mpeg2 encodeing Runs out in 30 days were the Registered "Plus" version Doesn"t run out..The Plus version has a Few more features Like a Better 2 pass setting and Higher resolution settings..And once the "Demo" version Runs out you can never install a demo version again..But if you are just doing Mpeg1 encodeing then there is no real need to Get the Buy "Plus" version Cuz the Mpeg1 encodeing in the Demo doesn"t run out...
I have error 'Could not open this file with DirectShow.(0x800700E)' when I try to cut my mpeg file. I've reinstalled Windows media Plaer and DerectX8 and still no good. What is missing?
I have a mpg that I have converted from an avi. It's perfect when I play it on my computer, but my TV adjusts the picture to full screen when played in a dvd player. Why is this? Can I have it play widescreen on my TV as it does on my computer?
why after ripping a dvd movie using the following programs is my audio out of sync. with the rest of the movie..i.e my audio track lasts for about 20 secs. longer than the movie?? (this happens when i view the mpeg movie on my pc.after encoding using tmpg enc 2.5)
programs used : smart ripper
dvd2avi
tmpg enc.
Well if you ripped the VOB"s properly and used all the other software properly then there shouldn"t be a problem...I have never had a problem like this and I do a half a Dozzen DVD rips a week and I have never had a sync problem like this..
I had it once doing SW Episode One and never understood why it happened.
May have been a hdd glitch during conversion, who knows? :o)
I haven't hada problem before or since, touch wood ;o)
What is your system spec, have you a relatively low processor speed?

I convert a divx to SVCD format and want to get less Minutes on a CD-R with Lower Bitrate than "1600" ,but it seems to be locked, how can i solve it?
Thanks(TMPGEnc 2.59.47.155)
I currently have tmpgenc 2.54 and was thinking about upgrading it to a newer version but i see so many bug reports for the newer version of tmpg (i.e. 2.58, 2.59). Can anyone tell me which version is the most stable from 2.54 through 2.59? Should I even bother upgrading? I just want to encode some of my various video files (mpegs and avi's mostly) to vcd to play on my dvd player so I want a version that won't have bugs or mess up the encoding but still have good quality. Thanks for the help.
PS does anyone know where to get older versions of tmpgenc than the newest update that's available on this site? Thanks again.
If you are happy with the one you got then stick with it ..Or you can try a newer version and Keep the older version also...There are a Few new features in the newer version that are handy like encodeing sequential AVI files..
Hello all. I have a problem using TMPGEnc 2.58/2.59. I used 2.58 without any problems, but now whenever I try to encode an avi, the mpeg starts fine, but then the sound cuts out. It has done this on several avi's. I even extracted the audio using VirtuaDub and even with another program, AVI2WAV. I have listened to the wav and it is complete. There is something in the TMPGEnc encoding process that is losing the audio. When I use version 2.55, it works fine, but the video is of lesser quality than the ones made using later versions. Any ideas?
I thought that Headac3he would only work for ac3 streams. Plus I have used a different program than VirtuaDub. Even then, the wav played fine in RealPlayer, but somehow did not convert the audio to the mpeg. How would I extract and convert with Headac3he?
You don"t extract with "Headac3he" ,you Just encode to Mpeg audio with headac3he...So you extraxt the audio to Wav with Virtual dub then load the Wav file into Headac3he and encode it to mpeg audio then you Mux it with the Mpeg Video you get from tmpgenc....There are external Audio encoders that can be used In Tmpgenc..The 2 good ones are "toolame and SCMPX" you install them in Tmpgenc by going to "options" to "enviromenatl settings" to "External tools" then navagate to the Encoder plugin...You can find these Encodec plugins on any search engine like Google..
I've had the same problem, but when i used VirtualDub to extract the sound file (as *.wav) from the avi-file, it worked perfect !
Select in TMPGEnc as video file the *.avi file and as audio file the *.wav that you've extracted from the movie.
I converted a divx file into mpg
Nero shows an error sying Stream encoding is invalid for (super)vcd.
Have I converted in wrong way or how do I solve this problem?
I want to archive all my DV tapes onto VCD or SVCD (no DVD burner yet).
I ahve been playing around and it seems that MPEG-2 is visibly the better quality, although 5 minutes of tape take 100 MB. But then, not even a 1-hour tape fits on a CD...
MPEG-1 fits perfectly on a CD, but the quality...
Does it make sense at all to first create a AVI, and then convert it?
Any suggestions how to do it best??
No it doesn"t make any sence to make them AVI them emcode them to mpeg Cuz this still will not effect the Size of the file...If you want to use the SVCD format and want to get more Minutes on a CD-R you have to Lower the Bitrate..Lowering the bitrate will lower the Quality somewhat, so it is a Trade off with Quality and File size and the trick is to find a Good medium..You can get about 50-55 minutes on a CD-R in SVCD format with Fair Quality By lowering the Bitrate down to about 2000-KBS and lowering the audio bitrate down to 128kbs...
how can I lower the audio bitrate?
It is deactivated and fixed at 224...
I am slow wondering why, under settings - video, the video size says 480x576.
When I later watch the mpeg2 file, it appears to be pressed in x-axis, and on TV I need to switch to 16*9 mode to watch it in correct relation.
I am using the Movie Maker to record an AVI file from my DV camera. I have the software create clips, so I can directly jump to a certain scene. I want these clips (index?) also appear in the mpg file, but using TMPEGEncoder, this info is gone. Burned on CD, I only have one file to choose from, whic is the converted avi file.
Any way to keep these clips or have an index created based on these clips?
I think you are talking about "Chapters", to put in Chapters you need to use a Burning or Authoring program that supports Chapters...A free one is Called "VCDEasy" but Programs like "Ulead DVD Workshop" are Much better for this type of stuff...
I used VCD Easy to burn the file to CD. But I found out that the mpeg file converted with TMPG from an avi file, does not have this clip or chapter anymore. So I think TMPG is loosing this information, or at least ignoring it. Bug or missing feature, this is what I am trying to find out...
Any idea? Thanks, Holger
If you have somehow Put chapters in the AVI file (Didn"t think it was possible) Tmpgenc WILL not transfer them to the Mpeg file..No Encoder Has this feature...
