Question - TE25 - Please explain video arrange method! No.33546
Billy  2003-01-17 01:37:45 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I hope you're not annoyed by me. It seems the more I learn, the more questions I have! Anyway, can someone please explain to me the Full Screen, Full Screen (keep aspect ratio), and Full Screen (keep aspect ratio 2) to me please? And also, what is 4:3, 16:9, letterbox, and widescreen?

Minion  2003-01-17 03:37:24 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

These settings change the Way the Picture is Displayed in the screen ...and 4:3 , 16:9 , letterBox, are Aspect Ratios, 4:3 is the standard Aspect Ratio for your TV Set, 16:9 is the aspect Ratio for a WideScreen TV...If you Don"t understand Aspect Ratios they are Basicly the shape the Frame is Displayed Like a "4:3" aspect ratio would be 4 parts across and 3 parts down and 16:9 would be 16 parts across and 9 parts down...

Question - TE25 - No sound in some parts of the mpeg file No.33545
Helmut  2003-01-16 23:27:56 ( ID:p4bakfomxpk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPGEnc 2.58.44.152
The first problem occures when I load the AVI file using the project wizard. TMPGEnc hangs with 'Judging field order' at 8%. I use the options 2-pass, slow performance of DivX 5.02 in VirtualDub 1.4.8.

Second problem:
After I tried it with the DVD (PAL) template instead of the wizard there was no sound in some parts of the MPEG2 video. In this case I used the following custom settings: 352x576, 2-pass VBR average bitrate 2100, maximum bitrate 3500, minimum bitrate 1700, joint audio 192 kbps. Have you got any idea about the cause of this behavior?
I think everything worked fine as long as I used a 1-pass source file and a mpeg setting with constant bitrate.

Minion  2003-01-16 22:25:57 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You have to Extract the audio to a WAV file with something like "Virtual Dub" and use that as the audio source..Tmpgenc does not support every audio format..

If you have Problems with the Editor in Tmpgenc then you will probably have to use a Different Mpeg editor like "Mpeg2VCR"...

Bug report - TE25 - Mr. No.33531
Oliver Schweer  2003-01-16 17:07:05 ( ID:9ri9acbc5oh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have problems with the MPEG-Tools within TMPGEnc:

I created a .m2v with TMPGEnc which is about 3.8G.
I wanted to multiplex this with a AC3-Stream of about 400M.

After processing 1.86G with the (simple or normal) Multiplex from TMPGEnc the process hangs and my swap-file (BTW, on Windows XP) starts growing until TMPGEnc fails with an "Out of memory"-error (having produced a swap-file of about 2G).

Any suggestions?

Uris  2003-01-16 18:51:20 ( ID:gnafo7mrrkn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi!
What is your file system?

P.S.You need uses only NTFS(!!!),
because FAT32 maxsize of files can`t be over than 4Gb...

ASHY  2003-01-16 20:54:24 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You won't be able to create any file that is over 4096mb. The swap file is limited to this size. What you are trying to create is too large.

Oliver Schweer  2003-01-19 21:12:10 ( ID:9ri9acbc5oh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Okay.. I found out that the input file was coruppted.

I created 8 mpg files (with TMPGEnc ) from DV-Video and joined them (of course: with TMPGEnc), but during that an error was introduced (to be seen as a small freeze). After that I wanted to add the audio (as I described previously) and the memory leak happened.

This all was solved by using AVIsynth to feed a "big" file to TMPGEnc, after that adding audio was no problem.

(And: Of course I used NTFS)

Thanks for your suggestions,
Oliver

Question - TE25 - SmartRipper No.33529

Hi,

Has anyone ever had this problem?

Every time I try and open SmartRipper, my computer reboots! It's driving me nuts. I can't open Smart Ripper at all. If anyone knows how to fix this problem or a different software I can use, please let me know!

Thanks

Have you re-installed? If so try booting into safe mode then see if it runs.
Also which ASPI layer do you have installed?

Free talk - TE25 - SVCD lip-sync problem No.33527
Darren Adams  2003-01-16 16:19:45 ( ID:u9wb4wjzvzg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have been having problems with SVCD lip-sync (audio and video out of sync by 300ms) on my home DVD player (German SM Supervision 2550). I have used TMPGENC 2.54a and 2.59 to encode and Nero 5.5.9.17 to author/burn. The manufacturers (and other users) of the DVD player have not seen this problem and the SVCDs play fine elsewhere.
I then tried VCDEasy which reported that "probably a sign of TMPGENC". The resultant SVCD then played (using the same MPEGs) without the lip-sync problems - so it would appear that the TMPGENC-Nero combination produces this problem. What I don't know is whether TMPGENC is the cause and VCDEasy is fixing it? I would like to use the TMPGENC-Nero combiation if possible. Anyone know if I can do anything in TMPGENC to help?
NB. This is definately NOT a problem with the source video and is not solved by tinkering with simple settings such as CBR, VBR, bitrate, resoution, stream type, etc.

ASHY  2003-01-16 21:06:07 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It's not a TMPG/Nero problem, but more likely a Nero/DVD player problem.
Some DVD players just don't seem to be compatible with certain burning programs.

Also the error in VCD easy is usually referring to the muxing rate of the MPEG which TMPG uses and could cause the out of sync problem. Try re-muxing the MPEG in BBMPEG.
Another thing. Is your burner officially supported by Nero?

Question - TE25 - Correcting an AVI audio out of Sync No.33525
smjd99  2003-01-16 16:08:50 ( ID:lhpbxwgruqw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Occasionally I have an AVI file that is out of sync with audio and video. I use the audio gap correction in the source range menu before converting to Mpeg. This works fine but I have to do it with a trial and error method which obviously takes a lot of time. I was wondering if there is a more sophisticated way of doing this or if hit or miss is the only way to get the audio and video to align. Thanks for any advice.

ASHY  2003-01-16 21:10:09 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes use Virtualdub to add or remove a delay. You can then preview it imediately. When your happy just frame serve the AVI to TMPG or resave it using the direct stream copy option.

Question - TE25 - MPEG-2 files -> "cannot be open or unsupported" No.33515
dlohren  2003-01-16 16:08:03 ( ID:bnjgwkvwrjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am using a Hauppauge WinTV PVR for converting VHS to VCD. Specifically, I've been making "MPEG-2 HalfD1 6.0 MB/s" files with the Hauppauge device and then converting this file to MPEG-1 using TMPGEnc. This method yields a much better quality MPEG-1 file than directly creating it with the Hauppauge device.

Here's the problem: I had to reinstall everything on my pc because of a harddrive failure. Now TMPGEnc returns "cannot be opened or unsupported" when I try to input a MPEG-2 file. (It does accept MPEG-1 files.)

Minion  2003-01-16 22:10:50 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You Need Certain Mpeg2 decoders installed on your Computer for Tmpgenc to open Mpeg2 files..You need either the "Cyberlink Mpeg2 decoder" that comes if you install "Power DVD" or you Need the "Ligos"Mpeg2 decoder" which Comes with some codec Packs like "Nemo" or "Tsunami", and these Decoders have to be registered in the "Vfapi Plugins"...

bgm  2003-01-17 02:25:20 ( ID:cbhwgjk/zca )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have the same problem. It's only be happening since I upgraded to directx 9. I have three P4 machines, all with identical codecs installed I think and the latest tmpg runs fine except on the DirectX 9 machine. I have both the Cyberlink and the Ligos codecs listed in environmental settings but I still get "cannot be opened or unsupported" on Mpeg2 files. I reinstalled the codecs but no success. Anyone have any ideas?

Minion  2003-01-17 03:51:13 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well sometimes it helps if you De-Mux the Mpeg2 file and load in the Video and audio seperately, actuall you shouldn"t encode the audio cuz it is allready in the correct format for mpeg...The Best way to encode Mpeg2 file with Tmpgenc is to use "DVD2AVI to frameserve the Mpeg2 video file to Tmpgenc then Mux the audio to the encoded Mpeg2 file...You will notice that useing DVD2AVI is Much Quicker than Useing Tmpgenc to decode the Mpeg2 files...

bgm  2003-01-17 16:18:18 ( ID:cbhwgjk/zca )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for the suggestions. I still don't understand why suddenly I can't open mpeg2 files n tmpg when I could before and the only change has been an upgrade to directX 9.

Tut tut tut, the dreaded Media player 9 strikes again.

Roll your system back and get rid of this demon.

dlohren  2003-01-18 00:10:21 ( ID:lkpdzmtqwoo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, I do have Windows Media Player 9 installed. What's the easiest way to "roll back my pc and get rid of this demon"?

Kris  2003-01-18 01:28:45 ( ID:tkdz3uyzvsc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes I can confirm that this is related to WMP 9. After ripping my hair out today and not getting why it worked here and not there and so on I tried getting rid of it and now I can open the files again. I'll try and encode overnight and see if it works.

To get rid of the Player 9 you have to roll back with a restore point. This is accesible through the start menu, accessories, system tools and System restore.

Good Luck

dlohren  2003-01-21 18:21:28 ( ID:bnjgwkvwrjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I reformatted my harddrive and then reinstalled everything except media player 9. The result: TMPGEnc still won't take a MPEG-2 file. (It will accept a MPEG-1 file.)

Do I need specific plug-ins to work with MPEG-2 files? If so, where can I get them and how do I install them?

A previous response suggested that I install PowerDVD. Is this process as simple as installing the demo version of PowerDVD or do I need to place one of it's files in the TMPGEnc directory?

Ashy  2003-01-22 23:28:53 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You would need to install the full version of power DVD as the trial version will limit your use of the MPEG2 codec or just download the codec itself from one of the codec sites.
This codec is called 'Free DVD Filters'

I had the same exact problem. I replaced every component in my system & finally discovered that I had a bad power supply. Also, disable the auto reboot on system halt in Win2k -- this way you will get to see the BSOD if/when it crashes again...
