Request - TDA1 - 16:9 Menu No.49181
apachelance  2004-06-30 09:03:53 ( ID:5ur4qxqjw.w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi from Germany,

TDA is a really nice program to realize DVDs in short time. Unfortunatly it lacks a 16:9 menu support. So this would be nice to see in the next release.

Greeting, Michael

Otmar Baumeister  2004-07-08 10:07:50 ( ID:kohjsz31.k. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It doesn'l lack the 16:9 option. You have to modify the header of the mpg File with f.e. DVD_Patcher or something like that.

rigor  2004-06-30 01:16:51 ( ID:2kudy41o.hf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i have tmpgenc xpress 3.0, and tmpgenc dvd author both programs say
they support reading dvd-rw "vr" mode dvds. i made one such dvd on a
standalone sony rdr-gx7 recorder but the disk will not load. i tried installing
realdvd! and i can copy the file off the disc and to the hard disk but even
when i try and rename the vro file both tmpgenc net programs cannot import
the file. the web site says they should. the disk was finalized.

Question - TDA1 - Tmpgenc DVD author menu: Still back image & music How? No.49178
ivrytwr3  2004-06-29 11:59:32 ( ID:piknkslbd8r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am authoring a dvd with Tmpgenc dvd author. On my main menu I am trying to have a still background image with music playing in the background.

The FAQ at tmpgenc website states this:

"How to include a still background image and background music?

It is impossible with TMPGEnc DVD Author, a specific source file has to be created.

With TMPGEnc Plus, choose a still image as video source file and a wav sequence as an audio source. Encode in mpeg program stream format with sound in mp2 and use the resulting file as background.
Disable the background option, the first image (still image) remains and the BGM only is played. "

I have created a mpeg program with tmpgenc 2.5 still image and music). However, when i play the dvd the background image is in place but no fookin music!

Any tmpgenc authors out there who can point me in the right direction? (and in laymans terms even a few pics would be nice!!!)

Ta!

apachelance  2004-06-30 09:07:06 ( ID:5ur4qxqjw.w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

simply insert the mpeg-file in the background menu. Setting for background motion should be disabled. Just choose the length auf the motion menu depending on the length of your mpeg-file. This works fine for me. It is important that the mpeg-file has only stereo/surround sound, no ac3 output. So you can create an working mpeg file in TMPEGenc by using mp3 or wav input.

Greetings, Michael

dpmp  2004-11-18 21:34:59 ( ID:c0wlr2e/nil )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The menu templates on the TDA is quite mediocre. But I would suggest using TDA to build your DVD image with the chapters the way you like it. Once the files are saved in your hard drive, use Ulead DVD Movie Factory to open it and rebuild the menu then add audio into it. After that, use your favorite burning software to put it on disc.

I don't suggest using DVD Movie Factory to encode your movie. For a homemade movie that is longer than 2 hrs, I think everyone has agreed that TMPGEnc & TDA can do it better.

Question - TE25 - Framerate Frustrations No.41876
Sakuya  2004-06-29 06:05:12 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm trying to convert some AVIs to put on a DVD. The AVIs have a framerate of 23.976. Here's what I did by following a guide:

I selected the AVI as the video and audio source in TMPGEnc Plus. Then I set the Framerate as 23.976 fps (internally 29.97 fps) and the Encode Mode as 3:2 Pulldown When Playback.

The problem is that there are some ads in the middle of the AVI that I don't want. So I used TMPGEnc Plus's Source Range to convert the first part, and then after that select and convert the second part. Then I merged them together as an MPEG-2 Program Stream using the Merge & Cut feature. However, on my TV, the audio and video gets out of sync. Why is this? How can I cut out the ad and not have everything out of sync?

I have tried Virtualdub where I select the ads and then cut them out. Then I frameserve into TMPGEnc. The MPEG though is weird. It has 1 frame (the same frame as the very last frame of the source AVI) that appears before the start of the AVI. That's weird because I don't remember it being there nor did I add it there. So now I am using TMPGEnc's Cut tool to hopefully cut out that portion and hopefully, it will turn out good. Here is what I meant in more visual terms if it was a bit confusing:

[]( )

The [] represents the added frame and the () represents the actual episode.

Sakuya  2004-06-29 07:15:45 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

After cutting off that 1 frame, it works on my TV player. I authored using TMPGEnc DVD Authoring. When I selected the chapter points, it was very accurate. However on my TV, the chapter points aren't where I selected in TDA but about a minute or more before that point. I double-checked in TDA and the chapter point image is right where I want it. But it's not at that point on my DVD player. How do I solve this? The video and audio were in sync though.

ashy  2004-06-29 17:11:50 ( ID:od.oqrlav66 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Why didn't you use the 'CUT EDITING' feature to remove the adverts instead of encoding the video in 2 parts?

Sakuya  2004-06-30 00:38:42 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Oh, I didn't see that there. :D

Question - TE25 - Getting DV AVI onto a DVD? No.41873
Paul  2004-06-29 05:00:01 ( ID:8xnkfi9czx. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've tried and tried, but can't find how to encode an MPEG2 as a single file (like MPEG1) with TMPGEnc... it always wants to
output as 2 x files (mpeg.m2v and mpeg.wav). I can't therefore play this video with Media Player Classic, or PowerDVD. :(

What I want to achieve is this: I've got some MiniDV footage that I shot (DV AVI, PAL) that I basically want to put onto DVD (or MiniDVD so I can use my CD-R and not buy a DVD burner) to watch in my standalone DVD player. What's the best way to do this with TMPGEnc? Thanks.

ashy  2004-06-29 17:15:48 ( ID:od.oqrlav66 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The next time you choose the DVD template in the wizard. Make sure you select 'CBR MPEG1 layer II audio(mp2)' from the drop down menu.

Paul  2004-06-30 03:55:31 ( ID:8xnkfi9czx. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks Ashy, that did indeed create 1 x MPEG2 with video+audio combined. :)

One more question: The playback of this MPEG is choppy on my PC (Pentium III @ 667 mhz), so I assume it's just a CPU issue and not a bad MPEG?

I think it is a good program, it saves time when encoding from DVD Ripped files, it saves the DVD2AVI part since it has the option to select the audio tracks from the ripped DVD, but if you guys want to create a bestseller, add subtittles support to this program, It would be greate to have a program to create VCD/SVCD MPG files with a single click.

Febre  2004-08-19 08:21:48 ( ID:vphbfx2xvgj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I agree, having the ability to add subtitles (whether direct burn onto video stream or a seperate stream) would make this THE perfect encoder. Otherwise, love the new interface and really like the on the fly cutting tool.

Question - TDA1 - author No.49176
andy  2004-06-28 04:35:07 ( ID:evuxpqb8m4n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

is it possible to create menues in author without relying on the (somewhat dodgy) menu templates? if so then I will be a very happy camper, if not i gotta say that i was expecting full functionality from author and tmpgenc and i am extreemly disapointed.
andy.

andy  2004-06-28 07:43:33 ( ID:nonoths0gmo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

also:
"Supports every setting in the TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 software encoder"
so I was expecting to be able to do simple mpeg2 edits and export them as files for use with other programs as well. Is this possible?
Thanks,
Andy.

Question - TE30 - Xpress turning my 16:9 movies into 2.21:1 movies. No.53191
saladin  2004-06-28 04:15:53 ( ID:qtm6/y5tg.. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Xpress keeps turning my 16:9 movies into 2.21:1 movies. I never had any such problem using TMPGenc Plus. This program is incapable of just keeping aspect ratios and outputting movies. Can anyone help with this. I have had it with this program. I'll just keep using TMPGenc Plus trial version over and over again if I have to in order to get my money's worth since Xpress doesn't work. Can anyone help?

Bladi  2004-06-29 05:20:44 ( ID:0r1a.2q.ytf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Check the resize part of the filter menu. You probably need to uncheck the keep aspect option.

Question - TE25 - Resizing for quality No.41865
rustytrumpet  2004-06-25 06:09:13 ( ID:enusq4tnr5c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Okay let me just start by saying im a quality freak.

I read somewhere in a chat room that when encoding VCD, starting with a 704x480 source will offer better quality that starting with a 720x480 source.

It kind of makes sense. 720 / 352 = 2.0454545 wereas 704 / 352 = 2 a nice round number ;).

Does anyone have any experience with this?

ashy  2004-06-27 19:24:53 ( ID:od.oqrlav66 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Not really because resizing doesn't work like that. Any resizing will degrade the quality slightly.
An MPEG image is built up of 8x8 blocks. As long as the resizing is done in a multiple of 8 the effect will be the same.
Both 720 and 704 are divisible by 8.

B_Racer  2004-06-30 12:31:24 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

@rustytrumpet

If you want Half-D1, always resize 704->352, never use 720->352.
So you get a correct AR and the resizing-kernel will do a better job.

ashy  2004-06-30 17:11:23 ( ID:od.oqrlav66 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It would be better regarding the aspect ratio, but it's unlikely to have any improvement over the quality.

Question - TE25 - Video Glitches (Codec Problem?) No.41862
Sakuya  2004-06-25 05:24:17 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have an AVI that has some weird video glitches. They're small and happen throughout the episode. In GSpot, it says the video codec 4CC is div3 and the name is DivX 3 Low-Motion and how I do NOT have it installed. I have FFDSHOW version May 8, 2004. It is the one Ashy recommended the last time I posted here and I have double-checked that DivX 3 is enabled. If it is not enabled, then how come I can still play the AVI fine (with the exception of the weird video glitches)? The glitches appear in both Windows Media Player 6.4 and Virtualdub. I'm not sure if the glitches were encoded into the AVI or not since no one ever mentioned about it. I used Virtualdub to conduct an error scan and results are:

0 frames masked (0 frames bad, 0 frames good but undecodable)

I also find it weird with another AVI of mine that plays fine in every aspect. However in GSpot, it says it needs the XviD codec and that I don't have it installed. That's weird since I know FFDSHOW includes all kinds of codecs. Or does GSpot not detect these? Anyway, if anyone can help me get rid of those glitches in the first AVI, please do! By the way, I do not have any other codecs installed except FFDSHOW. I do not have external XviD nor DivX codecs.

ashy  2004-06-25 16:38:05 ( ID:zawftnejbkh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Install the proper DIVX 3 codec.
This is a very old hacked MPEG 4 codec and has it's problems.
The one I recommend is below. Disable DIVX 3 decoding in FFDSHOW. If you still have the playback problems then I guess it is the AVI itself.

http://www.divxmania.it/software/codecs/divx_322b.zip

Sakuya  2004-06-25 20:24:27 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, there is still problems. Oh well, thanks anyways!
