I have DVD with dolby digital ac3 5.1ch (listenable in BSPlayer)
and tried to import a track (DVD import)
into Authoring Works 4 and also DVD Author 3.
But, there, it stated that is Dolby Digital 1ch!
I can't hear any sound.
After exporting (with added subtitle) it'still (GSpot said)1ch
and I can't hear anything in BSPlayer.
Is it some 5.1 issue, cos i did everything like hunderds time before.
in subtitle editor page, on the top of popup window (where you found import
subs) you can see subtitle layout where you can change your subs apereance:
size, font, color, position, outline, align...
Press some sub, so that you can see it on preview screen, then enter layout
and you can see what you are doing in real time.
(tmpgenc dvd author makes me best looking subs, but with few srt a had problems
with importing, some of that srt CAN be solved by saving them in Subtitle Workshop)
I've been using AVCHD with other software and they allow you to output AVCHD to standard DVD-R as well as Blu ray.
Can Authoring Works 4 do this or at least let you output o a hard disk or usb pen drive. The spec only mentions Blu Ray which seems a bit strange as I would think most people with HD camcorders like wouldn't author to BD which is still quite expensive for blank media.
You can import AVCHD and output to DVD-Video, Blu-ray (MPEG-2), and DivX Ultra. You do not need to burn to disc if don't want to; you can just keep the outputted files on your hard drive or create a disc image from them.
Yes this is possible. Create a custom menu and select a layout with one thumbnail. If you don't want a thumbnail, choose a text-only layout for your track menu. For the menu structure choose "Track Menu only". In the menu editor, you can change you background to whatever image you want by double-clicking on it. This will open a new window where you can choose a new image.
You'll have a link called "Chapter 1" or something like that. If you want to hide it, click on the "Global DVD Menu Settings" button and go to the "Chapter display" tab. Unchecking the box next to Chapter 1 will hide it. You can do the same for the Menu Title as well.
Obviously I'm a newby. Downloaded the freeware to investigate trying to clean up some old home movie vcr tapes. Capturing tape (avi) thru dazzle Pinnacle and then encoding (NTSC, interlace). I tried six experiments with the noise reduction:
1. Still picture 0, Range 1, Time Axis 0, High Quality=No
2. Still picture 20, Range 1, Time Axis 20, High Quality=No (default)
2. Still picture 40, Range 1, Time Axis 40, High Quality=No
2. Still picture 0, Range 1, Time Axis 0, High Quality=Yes
2. Still picture 20, Range 1, Time Axis 20, High Quality=Yes
2. Still picture 40, Range 1, Time Axis 40, High Quality=Yes
I can't see any noticeable difference when playing back the TMPG mpeg file. Is there any difference? I can't find any documentation on the website.

Win7 x64 and Using TMPGEnc Authoring Works 4.0.7.32, I am trying to import an MKV file and I get a message:
Could not open the video part of the file abc.mkv Only the audio part can be opened.
I know I was able to import MKV file in the past with Win Vista x64 and I also read the thread #728 that says just to set ffdshow to be used with MKV then it will solve the problem but I could not find anything in ffdshow to let me set it. Unfortunately, the person who has the solution did not leave any additional info on how he did it.
*** OK, I found the solution and to help those who have the same problem, here is the steps I took. Everything works with TAW4, Windows Media Player will play most popular formats: avi, mkv, flv, mov, asf etc....
1 - Go to http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm & download the latest full version of K-lite codec Pack, current vertsion is 5.70f
2 - Uninstall any previous codec pack.
3 - Install the K-lite codec pack
a - On the first screen, uncheck "Players" if you prefer to use regular Windows Media Player.
b - scroll down and select DirectVobsub 2.33 (I use Subtitle workshop, version 2.39 will crash the program)
c - Leave the rest as is and click Next
4 - Uncheck "Reset all settings to their defaults".
- If you don't want to see ffdshow icon in the taskbar then check "Hide systray icon"
- If you don't want to see Haali icon in the taskbar, then check "Hide systray icon"
- click next
5 - skip DXVA hardware acceleration if you are not using Media Player Classic.
6 - Check on "Windows Media Player" then Next
7 - Check on Video File Extension to allow all file extensions using WMP. Click Next
8 - Select your own speaker configuration then click Next->Install
9 - Check "configure DirectVobSub" if you want to change Font style, size, color for subtitle
10 - Check on "Run Win7DSFilter Tweater tool", you need to change one option in this in order to import MKV file
with TAW. Click Finish
11 - Change Font, size , color to the way you wanted.
12 - On Preferred DirectShow decoding filters in Windows 7 screen, select 32-bit decoders->H.264->DivX H264 then click Apply
then Exit
hi folks...obviously i dont have a clue here...so pls be patient.
for an example...i want to go to archive.org and download the 'Captain America' cliffhanger serial.
1. this should fit on (1) DVD the total of all the files is just under 1.2GB...
and i have a bunch of CD-Rs. i would like to burn some VCDs and DVDs with a little menu system (just PLAY ALL and CHAPTERS).
2. i picked up a sony dvd player and it does play VCDs.
3. i am looking at CH 1: this file (and most of the others like it) give this information:
MPEG4 (260MB) , Ogg video (121MB), and [512Kb MPEG4 (99MB)-- this is the one i chose]...size of files vary. i discovered by accident that this is the format each of these files is in: FORMAT : ISO Media, MPEG v4 system, version 1
4. these will play on my pc and this is a big, new system....windows 7, 1 terabyte disk, 2.6GZ and a DVD burner.
5. this cliffhanger has 15 chapters. it may probably fit on (1) or (2) DVDs or (2) or (3) CDs.
6. i just want to know:
a. will the PAYWARE version of TMPGENC convert into MPEG2 and MPEG1 formats?
b. another forum suggested: TMPGENC paid version to do the encoding...Ulead DVD Workshop 2 (PAYWARE) to do the menus...and burning is with (FREEWARE) ImgBurn
does this sound like a workable solution with WINDOWS 7?
can anyone PLEASE help a lost soul like me? i happen to love these old serials....but i cant afford to buy many. my pension doesnt go far these days.
I have TMPGEnc 2.5 and it does all that you have mentioned. The price is too incredible for what it does, regarding quality compression, not to invest in.
Your system should be fine for all of this.
For a DVD, you will want to convert it into an MPEG2 format which will have a file extention of .m2v
If you have ULEAD WORKSHOP 2, which it sounds like you do, then I would use this program to set up your menus and chapters "AND" I would use Ulead Workshop 2 to burn your DVD as well.

Menu needs to be the following structure.
I have 3 episodes/series which i would like to put on dvd.
so here is how i want them.
main menu:play all button;choose title button ,subtitle button
title menu:play button,main menu button,subtitles button,chapters button
Thanks TKRAVE,
but i want to be able to add buttons and remove buttons ,because even in custom menu the buttons are set and i need to add button for chapter.
You can't really add buttons. Authoring Works will automatically add buttons based on your content.
The chapter button appears in the Track title page.
The subtitle button won't appear on the top menu. It's probably because each track can have it's own unique subtitle streams and having a subtitle button on the top menu would only be able to point to one track's subtitle options.
A friend of ours was on a TV show the other day, so we recorded it, and i'm trying to cut out the commercials and put it on a DVD. The video looks great on Authoring Works 4, however, ever part when I cut out a commercial, the screen goes all blocks, then clears up after a second.
Yes, that is a screen shot of the output. The input souce was from our DVD recorder, which is MPEG2 720x480 29.97 fps 4:3 NTSC (Same as output, just wanted to add a menu, and cut commercials.)
It's highly likely that the actual bitrate is higher than the bitrate stated in the video header. You may need to turn off Smart Rendering on this one. Use a bitrate checker (something like this: http://www.winhoros.de/docs/bitrate-viewer/ ) to see what the actual bitrate is and match that setting in the Track settings.
Every so often my TMPGNC crashes during VBR, at the half-way point, AFTER creating the "log" file. Is there a way to now complete the encoding with the existing log file, so it doesn't have to do it all over again?
