Question - TE25 - mpg vs divx No.23885
nomatrix  2002-06-24 23:03:43 ( ID:wfokgl.pj06 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i got 127 mb raw avi file. after compressing with divx, size is 1,71 mb, quality is the same.

after is converted raw avi into mpg, size is between 5 and 7 mb. video bitrate is 910 kbit like divx but quality is poor.

how can i decrease size of converted file, what settings are needed? i tried various settings, nothing happens.

Minion  2002-06-24 23:43:51 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Why do you want to make your avi a mpeg? Compared to divx mpeg will not give you a smaller file size with the same quality, if you make the mpeg smaller than your divx the file would not be recognizeable as a video, it would look like a patchwork of colored blocks. If your goal is to make the smallest file size with the closest quality to the original you would be much better off encodeing it to "WMV", it is probably the most compressed video format there is.But if you really have your heart set on makeing a file that consists of unrecognizeable colored blocks go to the "system" tab in the settings screen and put the drop down menu to "mpeg1/vcd non-standard" then lower the bitrate to the desireable level but I think you will be very dissapointed ,you might be able to increase the quality of the mpeg file by lowering the resolution.

Hataian  2002-06-25 10:42:32 ( ID:ceso8j9ek8a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Use Cinemacraft encoder,it compresses almost as good as divx.

B_Racer  2002-06-26 09:20:05 ( ID:gxmkoa4dlnj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What a silly posting. CCE isn't better than TMPGEnc, only faster.
The quality of an MPEG-Movie depents on Picturesize, Bitrate, Bitrate control Mode, Quantize Matrix and a lot more things. You are absolutly free in TMPGEnc to use your own settings (unlock.mcf), but you never get the same quality than DivX on low Bitrates.
MPEG, the better Thing is MPEG2, is made for TVs, not for PCs, DivX ist made for PCs, not for TVs, that's all.
DivX can not handle interlaced Video (it has to be deinterlaced), MPEG2 can, but needs more Bitrate.

When processing a 600 MB DIVx AVI movie and clicking the start button I get an error stating "Can't load P3Package.dll".

This does NOT happen with smaller movies.

What could be wrong?

ASHY  2002-06-24 22:09:15 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Oh no, not again.

I"m not touching this one with a ten foot pole, go to the search at the top of the page and type in "p3p package"...

woodytheman  2002-06-24 21:07:17 ( ID:flhtxvcmr9r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hi there
is it possible to go above 224 kbps for the audio bitrate

Minion  2002-06-24 21:51:12 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes and No, if you are doing "vcd"s" and you want to stay within the strict standards of the vcd specification then you have to stay at 224kbs but I haven"t heard of a player that wont play higher or lower audio bitrates, and for svcd"s I think you can basicly choose what audio bitrate you want to use but setting it to high will take up to much space that would be better spent on video bitrate, for a normal movie 128kbs is usually enough for the audio to sound ok....

Question - TE25 - i have a question about format select format No.23878
MercPaladin  2002-06-24 20:30:45 ( ID:w29btrivx/m )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm sorry if this seems to be a dumb question, but im really confused. When i first start the program that window appears for me to select format, so i jsut pick some stuff randomly... after i just decided to cancel that window and just select my input and output file. Is that ok? Also can i burn the .mpg file using adaptec, or do i have to use something like nero? Thx.

Minion  2002-06-24 21:45:02 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you are new to encodeing then you should use the "wizard" and don"t choose something randomly, you know what you want to do don"t you?Choose the the format that you want to do "eg:vcd/svcd/dvd" and choose either the "ntsc or the Pal" options they are very important, I"m not going to sit here and write a manual for you on how to encode a movie but there are lots out there for you to read and learn. Go to "www.vcdhelp.com" there you can read and learn most everything to get you started......good luck

whatever  2002-06-24 18:11:32 ( ID:8wboed5ypwh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi!
Just wanted to request high resolution encoding options in TMPEGEnc, there is a need for the HDTV profiles to be included which might be difficult, but maybe they can be incuded in a "Pro" that is for sale or something.
bye

ASHY  2002-06-24 22:12:30 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There are other profiles in TMPG already which will allow higher resolutions. Just click the setting>video and click the drop down menu where it says 'profile&level'

Vince  2002-06-24 16:18:25 ( ID:exu9f.g0w4g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi
I run a trial version of tmpg and Premiere 6
When I use avisynth, I load the part0.avs file in tmpg
But it is write that there is no command called IPCSource
Is someone may help Me???
Thanks

Hataian  2002-06-24 19:52:52 ( ID:pq/ugw.8krm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Go to http://www.videotools.net and download a new version of Avisynth
there. It should have the command IPCSource.(They write on their page
right now that this command was moved to a dll,so you'll have to download
this dll too and declare it as a plugin in your avisynth script before
using IPCSource).

Load the film into Virtualdub, apply the vertical flip filter,
start the frameserver and open the frameserver file in Tmpgenc.

Question - TE25 - Interlaced or deinterlaced No.23868
Studio User  2002-06-24 15:33:25 ( ID:q.2vxyobb.n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

AVI to MPEG2 (SVCD) TV useage PAL.

When I read some sites about converting AVI into MPEG2 (SVCD) I see something about de(non) interlaced and interlaced.

Do I use the option/filter deinterlaced or is this not neccesary for TV use.

I have seen some forum post on www that it can be that the quality drops for TV usage with deinterlaced filter on.

Who knows the right answer.

Hataian  2002-06-24 20:00:23 ( ID:pq/ugw.8krm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Generally speaking, you shouldn't deinterlace if you plan to watch it
on TV because interlacing won't degrade the visual quality on TV
and not to deinterlace it preserves the material most which is desirable.

Question - TE25 - Error illegal floating decimal point No.23863
ACM0045  2002-06-24 14:40:23 ( ID:o8jwlwyirwj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Some time when I try to convert an .avi file to .mpg it say "Error illegal floating decimal point" and it halts my conversion to the point that I would only be able to get part of the job done. How would I fix that?

Hataian  2002-06-24 20:02:28 ( ID:pq/ugw.8krm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try uninstalling all programs you use and installing them again and
check your settings. If the avi file is a DVD rip or something like that,
try to create the avi file again and use it then.

Minion  2002-06-25 01:36:45 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

That error is usually caused by corrupted frames in your avi file, to get rid of the error go to "options" to "enviromental settings" to "cpu" and un-check the "SSE and SSE-2" boxes, then go to "settings" to "quantize matrix" and un-check the "use floating point dts" box this will get rid of the error but this error can also happen if you do anything with your computer while encodeing accept encode.....
