bestgoat  2003-04-19 19:37:03 ( ID:sbezb30us6n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ive been trying to encode the banger sisters, which is from dvd rip, and is set as progressive. I have tride everything encoding with the divx 5.3 as my medium for the avi, video is crystal clear, but it is extremely jerky. What can be causing this? Ive been trying everything!

Minion  2003-04-20 04:46:56 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well Make sure that the Source Is Progressive, You don"t want to encode Interlaced Material as Progressive,And make sure you are encodeing to the same Frame rate as your Source file...

If you did a little bit of searching you would have Found that Many AVI files downloaded off of the net have Audio formats that are not supported By Tmpgenc, Like "AC3" and "VBR MP3", with these Formats you need to extract the audio from your AVI file to a WAV file and then use the Wav file as the audio source, you can extract the audio from the AVI files useing AVI-Mux...

Hi, I am making some VCDs and when I watch it in my DVD player I realized both sides are not shown in the TV screen. In the movie there is a web address at the corner, when its being shown on TV, a part of the word is off the screen.

I use : Full Screen (Keep Aspect Ratio)

Why is the movie still cropped? Is there anyway to fix it?
Thanks

TAUhk  2003-04-19 08:52:16 ( ID:gt3m0hp1x2k )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sorry, I realized I made a mistake in title (I was replying an Instant Message), its supposed to be "VCD questions". And I tried to edit the post but I couldn't. Sorry

TAU  2003-04-19 19:18:49 ( ID:gt3m0hp1x2k )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yea, I thought putting it in Full screen (Keep Aspect Ratio) would not have that happen. I was thinking it will fill the rest with black bars (Like on the edges).
Sometimes I lost both side of the movies, sometimes I lose all the sides (Like a border). It is not really a big deal but if there are text near the edge, it will be annoying.

Tomo  2003-04-20 20:24:01 ( ID:nsbkh5almbg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

this is wot i do to most films
instead of full screen ..choose custom and try the settings underneath
a bit of playing around will get u wot u want

Ashy  2003-04-20 20:47:30 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It is your TV's overscan which is at fault.
Your monitor is capable a displaying an image from pixel to pixel left to right. Your TV is not as it requires a certain amount of overscan which means you usually lose some of the image depending how much oversan has been set.

Just use Tomo's solution and put a small black border around it if it bothers you that much.

TAUhk  2003-04-21 02:39:34 ( ID:gt3m0hp1x2k )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, I am kinda new, I rather have Black border than lose any information, can you show me how?
Say I after I got the help from you and set it right, can I just use that everytime instead of using full screen?

Thanks for the help.

Question - TE25 - Batch Encoding No.36409
Billy  2003-04-18 22:21:14 ( ID:zt8tip7sl.2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hey, is there a way for TMPGEnc to batch encode? I don't mean encoding one and after it finishes, another automatically encodes. I mean that both files encode at the same time. Is that possible? My encodes takes so long (3 hours at max) for just a 25 minute video!

Minion  2003-04-19 18:52:46 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Even if Tmpgenc could encode 2 files at once it would still take the same amount of time...If you want faster encodeing get a Faster computer or get a Faster encoder..Upgradeing your Computer to a Fast computer is Pretty Cheap these Days, I just upgraded a Friends computer from a 633mhz no name Brand CPU to a Athlon XP 2000+ with an ESC MotherBoard for under $100 US...

Tomo  2003-04-20 20:27:08 ( ID:nsbkh5almbg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

tmpg uses 100% of ur CPU power
so if u start 2 tmpgs at same time then they will use 50% each thus taking 6 hours to encode both files at same time

Question - TE25 - I have no Wizard directory??? No.36405
BradBo  2003-04-18 22:19:47 ( ID:hvgo1zka.dk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am using the shareware vesion of TMPGEnc v2.5.
I dont seem to have a Wizard directory.
I made a costum vesion of setting in the VCD(NTSC) format.
I then saved it to the Templates directory.
the guide I am using said to save it to the Wizard directory.
When I open the program my settings is not listed in the Wizard.
Can someone help me through this?
Thanks

BradBo  2003-04-19 03:56:30 ( ID:hvgo1zka.dk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Does everyone else have a Wizard directory?

Minion  2003-04-19 18:48:02 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don"t think there is a Wizard directory in the Newer versions, I don"t have one but then again I have the "Plus" version but any New templates you make should be right were you left them, after saveing a Template you are asked to give it a name and to save it somewere and that is were it should be and it will be called whatever you named it, usually in the templates or Extra Folder..

bestgoat  2003-04-19 19:41:15 ( ID:sbezb30us6n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I know exactly what you are talking about, and you are mistaking yourself. When you create the new template, you save it in the templates directory, so that when you open the program the wizard will open(if you want it to) and the new template will be in the wizard for you to select. You are making one for Full Video on one CD right?

Question - TE25 - After Converting to MPEG, Audio doesn't work No.36402
Bullet  2003-04-18 17:42:59 ( ID:sbezb30us6n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Okay, the probem is that when i encode ANY video mpeg, mpeg2, doesn't matter, and it will only display the video, but no audio... I was able to do this once before, but i dont know what exactly happend, and so now it doensn't work...

Can someone help me out with this problem im having?

Minion  2003-04-18 21:04:19 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What type of files are your Source Files??? If they are downloaded AVI Files then they will usually have AC3 or VBR MP3 audio and Tmpgenc doesn"t support these audio formats, you will need to extract the audio to Wav format and use those files as the audio source..If you are encodeing regular Mpeg files to Mpeg then you should De-Mux the audio from the source Mpeg file and then just encode the Video, then mux the audio with the New Mpeg Video file, re-encodeing the audio will degrade the Quality, and when encodeing Vob files to Mpeg1/2 I use DVD2AVI to frameserve the Video and decode the audio to Wav or Demux the audio and encode it seperately....

Bullet  2003-04-18 23:37:28 ( ID:sbezb30us6n )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ok, i just figured out this problem. The problem started when I downloaded the X vid codec and when i uninstalled it, now the encoding works.

Thanks anyway

Does this program have a pause/resume function?

Minion  2003-04-18 20:56:04 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sort Of, You can click "Stop" while it is encodeing and when it asks you if you want to abort encodeing just don"t answer, then you can do other stuff on your Computer and then later you can resume encodeing by clicking "No" , but you can"t shut down Tmpgenc or your Computer and start up again at another time..

Question - TE25 - TMPGEnc shows somtimes wrong AVI length ! No.36396
Sentai  2003-04-18 10:27:45 ( ID:/fgcb2keinl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

First, sorry for my bad english :)
I tried to convert an AVI to MPEG 1 (VCD standart).
The AVI is DIVX with 25 fps, VBR MP3 stream and takes 1 hour.
I load this AVI in TMPGEnc. TMPGEnc say it´s over 2 hours long.
Can everyone help me ?

sei baba  2003-04-18 18:58:30 ( ID:hopuwio3fbn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try changing the VFAPI plug-in
(Option -> Environmental Setting -> VFAPI plug-in )
Increase Priority of "Direct Show Multimedia File Reader" so that it's shown on top of the list.
In the Project Wizard (4/5) the correct time of the file should be now displayed.

Minion  2003-04-18 20:49:31 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

With some files Sometimes tmpgenc will show the File as twice or more as long as the file really is, sometimes you can just encode it anyways and the file turns out fine or sometimes it will encode the file but put like an hour of blackness at the end of the movie which you would have to cut off, so what I sugest is go to "Settings" to "Advanced settings" and double click on the "Source Range" and set it to just encode the Movie, this should solve your problem....

Minion  2003-04-18 20:53:23 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

And you Probably will not have any audio in your File Because Tmpgenc doesn"t Support VBR MP3 audio, You will have to use something like "Virtual Dub_Mod" or maybe "AVI-Mux" to extract the audio to Wav and use the Wav audio as the audio source in Tmpgenc....

Bug report - TE25 - "Divide by 0" Error No.36393
Lucky_Luke  2003-04-18 04:57:09 ( ID:qnr1opmex7a )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i've been trying to convert an avi file into mpg but i get this error "Divide by 0" when tmpgenc starts the encoding process. The avi is in divx format with audio in ac3 format. i'm able to play both audio and video only in windows media player. other divx players play only the video and not the audio. how do i go about encoding this file to mpg?

Minion  2003-04-18 20:43:43 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don"t Know what the "Divide By 0" error is about But I do know that Tmpgenc will not encode the AC3 audio, you will need to extract the AC3 to wav with something like AVI-Mux then use the Wav as the audio source..And your Problem is not a Bug report, if it was every one would be haveing the same Problem, it"s probably more to do with an error in your File or configuration as opposed to a Tmpgenc bug....

Hi, I am new at encoding movies and making svcds. I have a question, or rather I am asking for advice. My dvd player does play the SVCDs that I make with TMPGEnc. Should I buy a lincence so I can continue making SVCDs or should I just make my movies VCDs? Is it worth it?

Ashy  2003-04-18 19:38:19 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Definitely worth it.

Question - TE25 - jerkyness in output video/framerate changing No.36386
AnarKi  2003-04-17 22:47:14 ( ID:zsvsj8s7lrk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

When coverting a video that has a 23fps framerate into a PAL VCD (25fps)format, the output video is slightly jerky (skippy).

I figure this must be because of the conversion from 23fps to 25fps. So in the setting menu i see an option under the "video" tab to change the framerate but all the options under the "video" tab are "greyed out" and i cannot change them.

How can I stop those options from being grayed out so I can change the framerate?

PS. I MUST convert into PAL otherwise it wont play on my PAL DVD player.

Cheers,

AnarKi.

Ashy  2003-04-18 00:17:22 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Simply changing the framerate to 23 fps still wont make it play correctly on your player. You will still have the same problem.

You will have to speed the frame rate up to 25 fps then alter the audio with cool edit or sound forge to shrink the audio length to match the video.
An easier alternative if you know how to use it, is to use AVIsynth to convert the frame rate.

ASHY

AnarKi  2003-04-21 19:23:51 ( ID:zsvsj8s7lrk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ok thanks but I have no idea how to speed up the framerate or how to use sound forge to shrink the audio so if you could explain it to me step by step or as best you can I would be extremely grateful.

All I have is TMPGenc and Sound Forge 6.

Ashy  2003-04-21 20:38:13 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Here is a link which explains how to do it.

Read part 1a. Video conversion with TMPGEnc. and part 2b.Audio with CoolEdit
Ignore the rest of it unless you would like to use AVIsynth.
