Question - TE40 - 64 bit support? No.58466
MachineGun  2008-10-29 17:15:30 ( ID:essrlyzcnqh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When will TMPGEnc support 64 bit OS systems?
Thanks
MachineGun

I have Windows Vista 64-bit and it works fine on my computer. I've never seen the program using more than 200MB of memory ever, even with 4 threads runnings, so it won't use the >4GB of a 64-bit system...

Donsom  2008-12-23 02:06:51 ( ID:r.8ti0ecj92 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have both the new i7 = Quad Core MultiThreaded (4 core CPUs x 2 = virtual threaded CPUs) with 12GB of RAM running Vista 64 bit Ultimate ... and a Dual Quad Core Xeon (8 actual cores) with 12GB of RAM on 64 bit. (not kidding).

When rendering video, After Effects, or 3d animation, the more threads the better. 64bit also takes advantage of allocated RAM (unlike 32 bit where you're limited to 3 out of 4 GB) where the ceiling is the amount you have available.

I use XPress nearly every day. It runs decent on a 32 bit system, but would absolutely benefit SUBSTANTIALLY from a multi-threaded 64 bit OS. Mac's and most Linux are all onto the 64 bit system and benefiting from it. Yet, it's all the thousands of video maker "wannabe's", that are complaining about their piddley 2 - 4GB systems that are holding this program's (and others) potential back.

In the video industry, time is money and your hardware and programs have to keep up. Squeezing every bit of performance from your system and software gives you the flexibility to try different things, and get the job done on time.

XPress is really good software. Otherwise, I wouldn't use and rely on it every day. If TMPGEnc is listening ....Make the move to 64bit!!! ... and get this program updated to take advantage of it! Help cut my day back to 8 hours from 12.

Another vote for move TMPGEnc to 64 bits. I want to buy this program, but I have several issues on WinXP 64 bits. I wait until the 64 bits version.

Question - TE40 - 16:9 pixel vs. 16:9 display option - can anyone clarify? No.58465
theatereleven  Home )  2008-10-29 02:37:46 ( ID:tdilm.eudo6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm encoding a progressive DVD from a 23.976 project (DVX-100 24pA) and the very first menu asks for screen - I noticed that for both 4:3 and 16:9 there are two versions. Pixel (NTSC) and Display. I thought NTSC would be the one, but that looks stretched so I chose display and it seems right.

Anyone know what the two choices are about? THANKS.

I Have TMPGEnc ver 4 and would like to know if it is possible to remove the words "screener" from my videos?
Thanks

You can't if it's been encoded into the video itself.

Bug report - TDA3 - Cache Problem with Slideshows No.60798
MerleOne  2008-10-23 14:47:31 ( ID:9o113wdmsrf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi all,
I might have found a bug into the picture slideshow feature, which is created when one does the following :
- I insert a set of pictures, add chapters on some of them, setup a track menu, a cache is then built to speed up things.
- Then I go back to the slideshow edition and remove one picture (from the hdd and from the slideshow definition).
- When I return to the menu building, it may happen that the removed picture is still there on the track icons, and into the simulation clicking on it displays of course another picture, but the menu is still wrong.

I think this comes from the fact that the cache is not reset when the slideshow definition is updated. The workaround I found is to remove all chapter marks and manually reinsert them, then the cache is rebuilt and track menu becomes ok again.

Also, a suggestion : when inserting pictures into the slideshow, it is important to be able to specify the insertion ordering : date, name, etc. As it is now it's just the windows order which is almost random.

Thanks for fixing this !

Regards,

.merle1.

Question - TDA3 - 1280 x 720 Non-Divx writing possible? No.60796
horizon  2008-10-23 05:08:18 ( ID:71vyxqkxozr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I was wondering if this version of DVD Author allows you to make a standard HD DVD with 1280 x 720 resolution; but not the DivX format. Most DVD players don't accept DivX so I'd like to stay away from that.

The file would be exported from Sony Vegas as either an Mpeg2 or an M2T most likely.

Is this possible?

myself  2008-10-24 08:27:47 ( ID:uexq2jhhhql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think this software does not support .mts format, but if you want to create a standard DVD-videos you just need to choose the project format of DVD from the Start screen.
Also I think HD DVD is not possible to output since its an obsolete high-density optical disc format.
check about it here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HD_DVD

good luck

Question - TE40 - TMPGEnc XPress does not import 5.1 audio No.58459
Ender  Home )  2008-10-22 22:33:10 ( ID:eo8unkl6quc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Doesn't matters what I try to do, even the source audio been 5.1 (DVD source, wmv source, wma, avi, etc.), always I get just 2 audio channels at source selection screen. The import screen NEVER shows 5.1. Is it a bug? Or I am missing something?

Imbroisi  Home )  2008-10-22 23:04:24 ( ID:eo8unkl6quc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Got to Options->Preferences->Input/output format list
At "MPEG settings" check the box "Decode Dolby Digital in multichannel"
The same for "Windows Media Settings"

fjd0  2008-10-27 12:09:09 ( ID:zokbprlkmaf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It seems I have the same issue with TMPG Express 4.
I took a look at Options->Preferences->Input/output format list and at "MPEG settings" the box ("Decode Dolby Digital in multichannel") was checked as was the "Windows Media Settings" box.

When I set the format, there are no 5.1 audio settings on any of the formats.
Maybe I am missing something else. What I want to do is set up a HD mp4 finished product that has the 5.1 audio as the original did.

Similar question as Ender I think. Am I missing something?

tkrave  2008-10-27 17:24:59 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

As far as I know, 5.1 Dolby Digital isn't supported.

Question - TE40 - altering mpeg-4 resolution No.58457
rjmc  2008-10-21 21:10:29 ( ID:h291krn./g. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When converting any video file to mpeg-4, the size is locked at 352 X 288. Can this size be changed?

myself  2008-10-24 08:09:11 ( ID:uexq2jhhhql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think its possible to change it by choosing MPEG-4 AVC file output format, by MPEG-4 ISO is not.
good luck

Question - TDA3 - Recording DVDs for playing on a set-top DVD player No.60794
kinsham  2008-10-20 14:55:17 ( ID:qpjq3cph0fl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've had some very mixed results from recording a DVD created by DVD Author 3 and playing them on a standard living room player box (a mid-range Toshiba sd3960 about 5 years old and also a friends box whose make I can't remember).

Some DVDs play, most just aren't recognized at all and I can't figure out where the problem lies, is it the source file type, the player box, my codecs, the DVD type?

DVD-R, DVD+RW give much the same mixed results. I haven't tried DVD+R yet, waiting for some to come. The VOBs always play just fine on various PC players (e.g. WMP, QT, WinDVD, Mark's DVD Tray player), so I end up with a lot of coasters!

Any experiences that may point to a solution? It would be nice to have a tool that could read the characteristics of an MPEG that works, versus one that doesn't.

myself  2008-10-24 08:22:47 ( ID:uexq2jhhhql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If your DVD´s are well played at PC players it means is problem of
Toshiba sd3960 player, please try to check the playing settings or its specifications.
You may need to contact your Toshiba sd3960 player´s technical support.
I recommend you to first make sure to output your projects correctly then proceed to burn them, also use re-writable media in order to test, this is for avoid media waste disks.
good luck

Try to run the application as Administrator, also check about your codecs, its possible that you have broken one, XPress 4 reads all codecs installed in your PC so when one is broken, corrupted, limited edition, weird, or not compatible such crash tents to come out.
So try by uninstall codecs pack or trial codecs, those sometimes brings trouble.
good luck

Question - TDA3 - How do I get subtitles in the output file? No.60792
Don Crawford  2008-10-19 05:46:06 ( ID:h4u79hwvtbw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have successfully added subtitles in the edit mode, and these display on simulation, but they do not appear when I play back the output file. How can I fix this, please?

tkrave  2008-10-23 22:58:54 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Have you activated the subtitles? By default they won't appear, just like commercial DVDs, so you have to go to the subtitle or setup menu and activate the subtitle stream.
