Question - TE25 - How to improve the quality of the sound? (MPEG2) No.34342
diver  2003-02-10 16:36:35 ( ID:s.jjuhdzttc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have some AVI files and want to convert it into MPEG2. I have tried several external audio encode tools including toolame and SCMPX, but the sound quality of the MPEG2 file is worse than the AVI file. What's the matter? Is there any way to improve the sound quality?

What seems to be the problem with the audio?

Make sure you are using the highest possible bitrate.

Listening to live music captured from an HDTV receiver through good headphones, it is possible to detect a slight loss with layer II. But it is just a VERY subtle loss of ambiance. In this case, I author a DVD with audio coming from a WAV file extracted from captured AVI.

If you are noticing a problem on PC speakers and/or the material is less demanding than live music, there might be something else wrong.

i was using the program to split avi movie files with no problem now that my computer has been reformatted when i redownloaded this program when the avi files were converting to mpg files i lost all audio i was told i need a mpeg2 codec is this true if so do you know where i can get it?

Minion  2003-02-10 20:08:24 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It would not be a Mpeg2 codec if you don"t have audio, the problem is Probably the audio format in the avi files, extract the audio to wav and use the wav audio as the audio source...

Bug report - TE25 - Constant DLL and floating point errors No.34332
kanesan  2003-02-10 15:50:29 ( ID:yp.sy/fflza )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i am having constant problems encoding mpeg2s from avi files.

it seems rather random. sometimes it will encode files fine, and other times it will crash with a floating point error or a 'ntdll.dll' error with the exact same encoding settings as before.

sometimes vbr audio in the avis caused problems so i extracted the video only using vdub, and still the same randomness occurs. ive managed to encode 1/2 of quite a few movies (only either the first or second 1/2 will encode), both 1/2s using the same video codecs, and me using the same mpeg2 encoding settings but i just cant find a reason for it.

im using windows xp professional sp1.

Minion  2003-02-10 20:06:35 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If these File were downloaded off the net then that is Probably the Problem..Downloaded files are usually Corrupted in some way and the errors you are getting are usually due to a Problem with the file you are encodeing...

Stefan  2003-02-11 01:50:10 ( ID:lk3rvdogonh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Got the same message over and over again. (am i quite sure it has nothing to do with a corrupt file!!!)

kanesan  2003-02-11 07:50:17 ( ID:yp.sy/fflza )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

well just recently it hasnt been limited to just encoding...

i get runtime errors and ntdll.dll errors just from opening dialog boxes sometimes... it all seems rather random and not having anything to do with the file itself.

today i ran a 2 pass encode over a divx avi file and it crashed without an error message... and just disappeared. then i reloaded tmpgenc and tweaked a few of the settings... and it started running the first pass... then gave me a floating point error as soon as it started writing the output file on the second pass... which was after 3 hrs and rather infuriating.

is it only XP users that are getting these constant errors? i would like to know if any NT or 98 users get these random crashes.

if there is any solution that someone has found then please let me know.

im using a toshiba satellite 5205 notebook. standard specs. with winxp sp1. so i doubt its the hardware... i wouldnt put it past microsoft to botch things up though :)

thanks...

I use Tmpgenc on a Daily basis and I run XP on my P-4 1.7ghz and XP Pro on my 800mhz and Haven"t gotten a Floating Point error since I stopped useing Downloaded files..You Might be able to Minimize these errors if you tried Frameserveing the Files to Tmpgenc with AVISYnth or V-Dub..95% of the Time when Poeple Post problems with getting these errors they are Encodeing DivX/XviD files that they downloaded off Kazaa or some other P2P network..I encode Captured AVI files and D2V files from DVD Rips and Have Never Had any sort of error, I have Had Lots of Problems but they had Nothing to do with Tmpgenc .....

kanesan  2003-02-12 05:01:01 ( ID:yp.sy/fflza )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

tried to frameserve... but it doesnt seem to want to work.

i think this is most definitely my fault though :p i know this isnt a vdub forum so i dont expect you to tell me exactly how to do it... but im trying to use an aviproxy and it just freezes when i open it in tmpgenc.

ill try avisynth and then if i still have no luck ill find a faq or something... thanks for your help.

Which "Free Version"? 12a? If so, you have to change the Field Order of interlaced Video.

Question - TE25 - .avi "cannot open, or unsupported" ????? No.34322
DestinTider  2003-02-10 12:10:27 ( ID:kgwdglqa6ym )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm stuck with this error on my computer when attempting to encode a movie. I have this program on one machine and it works perfect, but on this machine I get the error message "cannot open, or unsupported". I am able to encode audio. I thought maybe MediaPlayer 9 might be the issue from reading other issues other people had, but I have this version on my other machine as well. I tried encoding the same files on the other machine and they work. I compared the settings and they both look the same. I tried a small video clip and it encoded but movies won't. Now, this machine is running Windows XP Professional. The other is running Win98 SE. Any suggestions???

Minion  2003-02-10 20:03:07 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I"m sure that since you looked around you also tried Raiseing the Priority of the "Direct Show File Reader" to 2..This is the Only thing besides Knot haveing the Right codecs that I can think of...

Had exactly the same prob. just installed nimo codec pack build 8 works great now. give it a whirl it might work for you to. P.S cant get to work with media player 9 might be worth reverting to earlier version, good luck

Question - TE25 - Cut Merge and audio sync No.34314
baraka  2003-02-10 03:56:04 ( ID:i10vvt6gurk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi there.

When i use the cut merge function with a mpeg(1 or 2) from my tuner card to cut out commercials. It always gets desycnhed.

I am trying to make commercial free for burn for VCD. Seams like the first cut works, but not the rest. Am i using the wrong app to try and do what im doing?

All i want is to to cut out commercials and keep the audio sycnhed and be ready to burn with out nero have to encode for a long time. :)

Thanks for your help, im getting frustrated :).

Minion  2003-02-10 07:19:05 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

First Off Mpeg files aren"t meant to be edited and That is one of the resons why Captureing to Mpeg sucks..Pluss Tmpgenc"s Mpeg editor does Not officially suport files that are not encoded By Tmpgenc and it does Not support the acurate editing of VBR Mpeg files, and Tmpgenc is Just plain Not a Good Mpeg editor..And another thing is that a Lot of Mpeg capture programs compensate for Dropped Frames By adding Padding were the Frame was dropped But when editing the Padding is removed and so is the compensation for the De-sync caused By dropped Frames..All I can sugest is to use a Different Mpeg editor like "Womble Mpeg2VCR" but if you still get sync problems when I would sugest Not captureing to Mpeg at all and try a Different Format like AVI Cuz you will allways get better results with AVI than Mpeg cuz AVI is much less Lossy than Mpeg...

baraka  2003-02-10 20:03:06 ( ID:i10vvt6gurk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Could anyone recomend a good program to capture? I dont have to use the one the card came with right? I will search for the womble thing now.

I just want the simpelest way to be able to rip tv shows, cut out the commercials, and burn them in sycnh to vcd/svcd format. Man if there where no commercials in the first place this would be so simple.

I found a program that splits mpegs and they dont get desycnched.

Also, my buddy who recomended tmpeg to me cuts and merge mpegs with tmpeg and his never get desyched :(.

Thanks for your help

Ashy  2003-02-11 00:12:35 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

IUVCR is one of the best I have used.
http://www.iulabs.com/index.shtml

You would be better off capturing to AVI or MJPEG rather than directly to MPEG. This is much better for editing.
You can then use the 'Cut editing' function in the 'source range' filter to remove all the commercials in one go then just encode to whichever MPEG format you choose.
