Question - TE25 - Error while trying to encode No.30231
fireguypa  2002-11-03 04:13:39 ( ID:ld0vl28xjk6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I am attempting to encode my avi download of sum of all fears, I get an error pop up showing "-268747105 116256" it keeps popping up. I can't figure it out.

Minion  2002-11-03 08:29:27 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You are probably getting the reeor Because there is something wrong with your avi file..Downloaded files have these problems Very often and the symtoms can Vary from getting any number of errors to makeing your computer freeze..Try frame serveing the file ...

erniebal  2002-11-03 23:42:50 ( ID:snrxknn5atl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've been getting those errors too. I found that if you shut down tmpgenc completely and restart it the problem is often fixed. I've been using this program for about a year so far and this is the first time i've seen this particular problem. I had it happen with a bunch of my avi files.

hey all,

i seem to have come across a major problem in tmpegnc!!

when i try to load any file in to encode, a dialog box pops up telling me i have an error.

"File 'Weird characters' can not open, or unsupported"

weird characters show up and they are different all the time!

It was workign fine before, help!!

tia

Minion  2002-11-03 01:44:38 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This is when you are loading the file in tmpgenc???You probably just need to raise the priority of the "Direct Show File Reader"..Go to "Options" to "Enviromental Settings" to "Vfapi Plugins" and raise the "Direct Show" To "2"..

mi3  2002-11-03 05:00:27 ( ID:ogcaiavb45l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Minion  2002-11-03 08:27:29 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What type of File is it..Like what Codec was used to make the file and the files Specs and where did you get the file from ,Meaning did you capture it with a capture card or DV or ripped from a DVD Or downloaded from the net???And do you have the specific Codec for that File????And have you tried to frame serve the file with V-Dub or Avisynth??

Ashy  2002-11-03 11:20:16 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This could simply be an error with TMPG itself. Completely delete TMPG from your PC and extract a fresh copy from the ZIP archive and try again.

hey,

i've tried installing and re-installing and no luck at all!!!

i've changed teh driectshow to 1 and 2 and no luck either!!

i dunno what to do!!

help!!

Ashy  2002-11-03 20:21:19 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are you saying it won't load any file type at all, not even MPEG, d2v, vdr.

Have you recently installed any other software?
If you are referring only to AVI's then I guess you either don't have the right codec or it is corrupt or it's a directshow problem.

My advice to you is to roll back your computer using system restore to a time when you are sure it was working.

If that doesn't work then only one thing you can do....Windows re-install.

ASHY

mi3  2002-11-04 03:02:27 ( ID:deolwaahbpj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hey,

Yep, I CANNOT load any files at all (d2v, avi, mpg, or even any templates)

It just wont load.

Unfortunatly, I can't do a system restore b/c it was long ago. :(

I think I might ahve to do a re-isntall but I dont want to restor to that unless i have to!

Anyone have any other suggestions!!

tia

Minion  2002-11-04 03:06:46 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You can probably reinstall your OS quicker than it would take to solve the problem another way...

mi3  2002-11-04 23:26:18 ( ID:ogcaiavb45l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i know, but i dont want to do it unless i 100% have to :(

why is it happening? any ideas..?

maybe the author can join in, heh

Question - TE25 - Can TMPGEnc encode YUV source without passing through RGB? No.30217
Cosmin Truta  2002-11-03 00:34:21 ( ID:r9hllueotnj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is TMPGEnc capable of recognizing YUV-based formats such as YUY2, and translate them directly to MPEG? I don't know much about the AVI codecs, but if they convert the data to RGB, which is converted back to YUV during the MPEG encoding, then I think this is an unnecessary loss.

Moreover, I heard that DirectShow has a problem: DS converts YUV to 16-bit material and then it converts it to 24-bit material.

So I am curious whether TMPGEnc is able to avoid any underlying system mechanism (such as DS) if necessary, and convert the Y,U,V values directly to MPEG.

Best regards,
Cosmin Truta

Minion  2002-11-03 01:42:14 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Tmpgenc will not Encode YuY2 or yuv formats..Which sucks Cuz I capture to YUY2 and cant load my file directly into Tmpgenc unless I use AVISynth Convert to RGB Command or use "Virtual-Dub" to frame serve the file..What captureing to Say HuffyUV in YUY2 the encodeing takes 2 times as long Cuz HuffyUV converts the YUY2 to RGB While decodeing the file, and I Can"t load PIC_Video Mjpeg YUY2 files into Tmpgenc..CinemaCraft doesn"t seem to have this problem...

Ashy  2002-11-03 13:06:53 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have repeatedly asked for this feature to be implemented on this BBS on several occasions, but to no avail.

TMPG should accept any YUV format no problem, but it will be converted to RGB before encoding takes place which as you so rightly state degrades the quality and takes much longer in the encocding process.

It does seem pointless to only support RGB seeing as most formats can now support YUV.
I do realise it would take a lot of work to implement YUV into TMPG, but I do think it's time TMPG moved on.
This is one of the things which seriously holds TMPG back and if it was implemented there would be a substantial speed increase when encoding and is one of the reasons why CCE has the edge over TMPG.

So, because I like banging my head on the wall I will ask again...PLEASE CAN WE HAVE YUV IMPLEMENTED MR HORI?

Question - TE25 - Framerates No.30213
Phantas  2002-11-03 00:27:06 ( ID:qcto6i68q12 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ok, I think i have what you call "jerky playback" . But the problem i see is that there seems to be a one second lag with movement. I have done some searching but i have questions about framerates. It is mentioned that if you dont have 29.97 framerates to use avifrate or avisynth to get it to 29.97 (is this correct)? So then if i have a movie at 14..fps then i would do this? I did it and now it is fast but of course audio is screwed up...I know you need to use yet another program to fix this but have never done this myself yet!

So just to reinterate...either the movie is 29.97 before going into tmpgenc or you use avifrate..etc to make it that correct? And second thing is i have never used ntscfilm @ 23.976...if i have a file at this framerate can i burn it as a svcd like the regular ntsc?

If this is correct...how do i fix audio after using avifrate to put it back into sync?

Thanks All
Phantas

Minion  2002-11-03 01:35:36 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

With a File that is 14.9/15fps there is nothing you really can do with it to make it a Smooth playing Mpeg file..The frame rate is Just TOO low, With files that are 23.9/24 25 or 29.9/30fps you can just encode them at there own respective frame rates without a problem. But with 14.9/15 there just aren"t enough frames to make up the differance..at 14.9fps that is only half of the frames to make a Standard NTSC file and there is no way to fabricate the frames to make it a 23.9 or 29.9fps file...You can do it if you want to make a 23.9fps to a 25 fps, or a 29.9fps to a 25, ,or even a 23.9fps to a 29.9fps but there is no remedy for files that are 14.9fps..If you got these files from Captureing from a TV Card or something then capture to a Highor frame rate.

Ashy  2002-11-03 11:56:26 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The right way to get a 14.985 fps movie to play back at 29.97 fps is to select the framerate '14.985 fps(internally 29.97 fps)' under the 'Video' tab.
This will convert the movie to the correct framerate and will make the movie play exactly as the original does but at a higher frame rate.

Bear in mind though that a movie at 14.985 fps will already have some jerkyness due to the low frame rate which cant be solved.

If you have a file which is 23.976 fps and you wish to encode to SVCD then select the 'SuperVideoCD (NTSCFilm).mcf' template. This template will convert the 23.976 movie to 29.97 without jerky playback.

For most other frame rates you will most probably have to convert to 23.976 and use the 'SuperVideoCD (NTSCFilm).mcf' template or convert to 29.97 fps first unless your DVD player can do a proper frame rate conversion itself which most don't and will result in jerky playback.

Minion  2002-11-03 22:10:29 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well I know On my Cheapo DVD Player it will play 23.9fps NTSC Film files with out a problem without me comverting the frame rate to 29.9fps but finding a program, that will burn it to disk is the hard part accept for VCD easy...Useing the 15fps/30Internally will still have a certain Jumpyness Cut tmpgenc Basicly Coppies each frame to make the frame rate 30fps But it shouldn"t look any worse than at 15fps...

Question - TE25 - audio skips No.30206
yoshi  2002-11-02 22:38:56 ( ID:ogcaiavb45l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

when i convert the avi file to mpeg or mpg the video plays fine but the sound is screwed up. the sound is stuck at one point while the movie plays just fine so throughout the movie u hear "okay" repeat over and over till the movie ends. i used virtual dub to record the sound to wav but when i use tmpg to convert the wav to mpeg then mix the video and audio together, it does the same thing and repeats. has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it?

Minion  2002-11-02 23:03:30 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have never heard of that one...Is the skipping in the Wav file you extracted with Virtual dub??if not tru useing something else to encode the wav to Mp2 audio, like Headac3he or even DB Power amp then Mux the audio to the Video stream...

yoshi  2002-11-03 02:51:54 ( ID:ogcaiavb45l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

when i convert it to wav with virtualdub the sound plays just fine, the sound only screws up when i convert it to mpeg with tmpg

Minion  2002-11-03 03:17:29 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

well use somthing elce to encode to Mp2 audio...

yoshi  2002-11-03 05:35:31 ( ID:ogcaiavb45l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i did, same crap everytime, obviously posting this here was no help at all so after careful examination i converting the first part of the video before the skipping starts, and the last part of the video after the skipping frame and combining the two files creating an error free audio/video file no thanx to me, myself, and i

Minion  2002-11-03 08:31:16 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well there could be some sort of Codec conflict in your system or something Cuz if more than One encoder gives you the same problem then the problem most likely isn"t the Software..Try extracting the audio again...

Ashy  2002-11-03 16:53:42 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Apart from your rude attitude towards minion, I think minion is right. You need to extract the audio to wav again, but this time use something else such as AVImux to do the job then re-encode the audio to MP2 and mux with the video.

When I use TMPGEnc it encodes about 80% of the file and then locks up my computer. It is fairly consistent at locking up around 80% no matter how large the file I'm encoding is. Its getting very fustrating. Can anyone help. Im using the newest version (2.58.44.152) of TMPGEnc on windows 98SE with a 600 amd with 256 megs of ram.

It would be cool if TMPGEnc can support resuming just like what getright did for the Internet! I hate having to restart the computer or just have to shut down the computer when I'm in the middle of encoding something!
Will this feature be supported in future versions?

Ashy  2002-11-02 15:32:15 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What do you mean shutdown the computer or restart when your in the middle of encoding? Why don't you just click 'Stop' this will pause the program.

ASHY

gbagman37  2002-11-03 01:04:53 ( ID:aks1ajzl/6r )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Do you mean having to turn off computer because it has locked up(Windows ME)? Thereby losing what you have encoded and having to restart, maybe upgrading to Windows XP will solve this problem, I've had it a year now, No problems like I had with ME.

mi3  2002-11-03 05:04:03 ( ID:ogcaiavb45l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hey,

you can resume an encode in tmpegenc?? wow, how do you do it!??

i didn't know you could do that!

Minion  2002-11-03 08:32:58 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well No You Can"t..You can put the encodeing on Pause if you want to say check your mail or run another program but you can not shut down Tmpgenc or abort the encodeing and resume it again...

silver surfer  2002-11-02 13:21:08 ( ID:i.morrckor. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

how would you convert an avi file with 30 fps to a vcd compliant mpeg-1 that has to have 25 fps without getting the jumpy playback? any help would be much appreciated.

Ashy  2002-11-02 15:35:22 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

'AVisynth' can do it correctly or use 'AVIfrate' to change the framerate and then use cooledit to alter the length of the audio respectively.

ASHY

Minion  2002-11-03 01:24:10 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

AVIsynth should be able to do this and Not have to alter the audio length...

You need to extract the audio from the AVI file to WAV format with Virtual Dub and use that as the audio source..Tmpgenc sometimes Chokes on Compressed audio formats...

I am trying to encode a avi file to mpeg and while it is encoding it sometimes comes up with an error message about a 'decimal point'

Any help on how to solve this would be greatly apprecitated.

Minion  2002-11-02 03:10:34 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This error is usually caused by your avi file..Usually with files downloaded off the net, there is probably a corrupted header or a few corrupted frames..Especially if it happens at the same spot every time..You can get rid of the error by going to "Options" to "enviromental settings" to "CPU" un "Un-Check" SSE and SSE-2, then go to the regular settings to "Quantize matrix" and "Un-Check" the "Use Floating point DTS"..now you shouldn"t get the error but the encodeing will take a lot longer because of not utilizeing the SSE and SSE-2 optimizations of your CPU..the way to not get this error is to not use Downloaded files...

My friend sent me a copy of 2.53.35.130 and it does include an "other" section on the wizard first page. I have been doing some DVD rips using Clad, and the quality of putting a whole film on 1 disc has been perfect.

jaycdam  2002-11-02 00:17:19 ( ID:rqghnp3u6ul )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Have also tried putting a long film on 1 disc, Lord of the rings, and again, it worked perfectly as a VCD.

I"m sure you Believe that..My first Few Vcd"s that I did I though they were awesome But over time when you start experimenting with other formats and doing XSVCD/XVCD and even Mini-DVD and you look back at the first 100 or so Disks you did and they don"t Quite look as good as you thought they did back then..But I guess that"s progress .Find out what exact version of Tmpgenc your friend has and let us Know as I would like know what options you are talking about..I have tried every demo and Plus version since Tmpgenc first came out and I don"t Think I remember these options...Cheers

WHY, WHY, WHY??!! r u creating a new thread on the same subject. ONCE is enough. It will not get your post answered any quicker, but will probably get it deleted or ignored. DONT DO IT cuz it's very annoying! and breaks the rules of this BBS.

I asked you in your previous post on the same subject what version your friend was using, I see he is using v2.53.35.130 and yes it is possible to create your own template called other for the wizard in the earlier versions, but not in the recent versions.

As for putting a whole movie on one disk then all I can say is you must be easily pleased or need an eye check up.
The quality of VCD movies on 2 disks is substandard never mind 1, but then again you are obviously a beginner and haven't developed an eye for quality yet.

Actually I have just discovered it is also possible to create templates for the Wizard in the new versions also.

If you need info how then post back in this thread, don't create another.

Ohh..I know what you mean now...Those settings don"t come with Tmpgenc you have to make them yourself..That screen Just shows the available templates that are in the "templates folder" so if you want a different Format option then you have to Make your own Template and Put it in the "templates folder"...

Trashy....sorry Ashy,
My eye for detail is perfectly fine, thanks for asking. You obviously are doing something very wrong. I only came on here to let people know of this additional template feature...not to be insulted by the likes of a prat like you!!!
It works very well and there is minimal degradation from DVD quality so as for you.........STICK IT!!!!
