Question - TE25 - persistent audio/video syn major problems No.32266
cary  2002-12-23 02:02:27 ( ID:cyhenuuezqw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

thx fellas for both sets of advice......but guess what?....after spending the entire weekend trying everything that i think is possible i still have the out of sync problems.......here are some additional details.....
winXP pro...trying to make vcd from dvd with pcm audio.....claddvdxp1.3....tmpgenc.....STILL OUT OF SYNC......used this same set of progs earlier this year and everything worked perfect.....are the new versions of tmpgenc not able to handle lpcm audio?.....i really really need some advice......even tried smartripper, then dvd2avi, then tmpgenc...same problem...HELP PLEASE ANYBODY!!!!!

Minion  2002-12-23 10:47:07 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Tmpgenc doesn"t have any problem with PCM audio..I use SmartRipper and DVD2AVI and never have sync issues, you might try ripping the audio with something else like VOB2Audio..Is the audio just go out of sync on your DVD player or is it out of sync on your Computer also??

cary  2002-12-23 12:38:17 ( ID:exhjgog3zsf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hey minion...i need all of the help that you can offer me.....the audio is out of sync on the mpeg2 file that i create using tmpgenc....at the beginning of the file it's ok but progressivly gets worse as we move along in that file....overt this weekend i tried smartripper for the first time to do the rip....everything seems ok with those files and that part of the process....then i use dvd2avi for the audio.....finally tmpgenc to put it all together for the mpeg2 file.....nero to burn.....where do you think that the problem is? with aspichk it says that aspi is installed ok and functional....is there anything that i am missing like some files to install or anything?.....i'll owe you if we can solve this one.....funny thing is that everything worked perfectly earlier during the year...do you think that i should do a reinstall of my OS (xpPRO)?......HELP & THX!!!!!

cary  2002-12-23 12:52:20 ( ID:exhjgog3zsf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

4got to answer the question that was asked......aiming to create VCD's from the DVD.....but i dont bother to do the burn cause when i look at the mpeg video on the pc audio/video is out of sync.....therefore makes no sense to burn although somewhere on this board i read that one fella said that when he did his burn everything went into sync even though it was out on the PC.....so i tried but of course that did not work...what did i expect!!!!.....please help me

Minion  2002-12-23 22:12:07 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well I don"t know what the Problem could be, Maybe you can Try a Different Mpeg encoder, The New MainConcept Mpeg encoder is Pretty Good and Quite fast..Or you can try doing what I sudgested earlier and Rip the audio with something else like VOB2Audio...

ASHY  2002-12-24 17:06:55 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Keep using Smartripper to rip your files as it very reliable and the best ripper there is.

To rip the audio don't bother with PCM audio. You should be ripping the DD 5.1 Ac3 track to a wav.
For this the best and more accurate way than DVD2AVI is VOB2AUDIO, just ensure you rip the correct Ac3 track. There will be a text file in your folder where you have ripped your VOBS to which contains the audio stream info.

Once you have chosen the correct stream in VOB2AUDIO run it and it will create a wav.
The next step is to use the d2v file which Smartripper 2.41 should have created in the same folder as your VOBS.
If you are using Smartripper there is no need to use DVD2AVI at all, but it still needs to be installed for TMPG to use the d2v file.

Load both of these files into TMPG.
Choose the correct template to encode. I.E. if your DVD is PAL choose the PAL VCD template, if it is NTSC choose the NTSC VCD template.
DONT try to convert one format to another.

Before encoding in TMPG click File>Preview and move the slider to the end. Note it's time code info then load the wav into media player and play. Check that both are the same time length.

If both are the same length you can now go ahead and encode and you should end up with an in sync MPEG.

minion....thx for the advice but most likely i'll stick with smartripper-dvd2avi-tmpgenc combination......its' now 2312hrs local time here and i'm xtremely tired....so no more xperimenting for tonight......

ashy......some positive news though....the dvd's that i am most interested in converting to vcd have only pcm audio stream along with the video stream....these are dvd's with music videos like what you see on mtv....earlier during the year i had no problems at all using cladxp1.3-tmpgenc but now i get a message that i never did b4 saying 'authentication routine failed to unlock locked sectors' but clad still rips the vob files anyway.....so today i tried a dvd movie and guess what...everything worked fine which means that the problem has to be specific to those music dvd's......used smartripper then tried with clad with no sync problems both times.....

tomorrow i will continue to experiment again....like most times the problem may be something staring us right in our faces.....

still don't give up on me as yet...i'm learnig from you both....

thx again
and merry xmas

ASHY  2002-12-25 12:54:10 ( ID:z38op/mumwm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hmm strange problem. Your sync problem is almost defintely linked to the DVD not being decrypted properly and the sectors remaining locked.

Any ripper will still rip the locked VOBS, but when you come to encode these VOBS there will be problems because they are still encryted and this is where your sync problems are beginning.

The 'authentication routine failed to unlock locked sectors' error is usually due to a bad ASPI layer or blemishes on the surface of the DVD, so ensure it's clean. (is it only this one music DVD or all music DVD's?)
Even though you do have the correct layer installed I would kill it and re-install it again. There is program called killaspi.bat which can do this which I guess you already have as it comes with 'Forceaspi 1.7'

Another option is to play the disk for a few seconds first with your PC DVD player software such as WINDVD. This will authenticate the disk then try again with Smartripper.

If all else fails after this then I would try the very best ripper out there VSTRIP which can rip any DVD on this planet.
It's a bit more complicated to use, but gives guaranteed results. If VSTRIP can't do it then there is something wrong with the disk.

hey ashy.....yes the prob now seems to be not those music dvd's but something else cause i tried to convert one that i had successfully done in the past and i got that authentication problem....i too seem to think that it's with this aspi layer....i had a HD problem in june and had to do a complete reinstall and after that is when the problem started.....i lost the aspi that i was using then....today i successfully converted 'mission impossible 2"...know what i noticed today....with smartripper when i did the movies successfully, when you hit the start button in the 'code info' area of that dialog the 'aspi' sign ligkt up....this does not happen with the music dvd's....i am going to experiment a little later and will fill you in again...will try to remove and reinstall aspi to see what happens....hope that it works this time......

thx again....

Question - TE25 - RM Files? No.32262
Billy  2002-12-22 21:11:02 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have many RM files that I would like to put onto a VCD but the quality is bad. Is there some way I can improve its quality and then encode it into MPG to put onto a VCD?

Minion  2002-12-22 22:52:45 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

NO.....It would Be Quite Difficult to Clean Up RM files, Plus these RM files would First have to be Encoded to AVI which would make the Quality worse, that after converted to AVI then encoded to Mpeg which would make you loose even More Quality...RM Files Just aren"t a Good Format to Make VCD"s out of...

Billy  2002-12-22 23:00:00 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks for the help! It seems almost everyone hates Realplayer nowadays...

B_Racer  2002-12-23 17:21:35 ( ID:dxp41zyyfu. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The Tool EO-Video is able to convert RM to AVI or MPEG1 directly (RealPlayer have to be installed). But It's no Freeware and it's very slow.

Rick  2002-12-22 20:07:58 ( ID:cun7pso8rgw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm using the program more and more these days especially encoding vcds from avi files. Some of these files are in the 2.35:1 amorphic widescreen mode. To date I have been clipping the source file to maintain the aspect ratio but would like to see a choice in the source of 2.35:1 so I can be sure to get the whole image.
Thanks
Rick

Click the 'arrange setting' button in the 'clip frame' filter amd use the Center(custome size) option to adjust your image to the correct ratio.

Question - TE25 - How can I encode Divx 5.0 (Avi) to mpg with TMPGenc. No.32252
JaMirSe  2002-12-22 17:23:40 ( ID:.oje2pg6v9j )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sometimes I get Avi files that I can only play with the so called DivX 5 player.
But when I want to encode these files with Tmpgenc. it doesn't work.
He refuses to encode it saying that is not a correct file ??!!.
Does anyone have a solution for my little problem ?.

Minion  2002-12-22 22:46:34 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

To encode DivX 5 Files or any AVI file you have to have the Correct Codec installed, so make sure you have the DivX 5.02 Codec installed, and Try raiseing the "Direct Show File Reader" to "2" in the "Vfapi Plugins"...

Hi there,

I have encoded the AVI file to a MPEG file using TMPGEnc. I can hear sound but there is no picture!!!

I even tried burning the film anyway and it still didnt work!! I have been wasting so many CD's!!! Can you please tell me what the problem is!!

I encoded it also with NERO but it displayed the picture upside down!!

Can anyone give me a hand with this problem i am having.

Cheers

Minion  2002-12-22 22:43:46 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try going to "Options" to "enviromental Settings" to "Vfapi Plugins" and raise the "Direct Show" to "2"..This will hopefully get the Image to show while encodeing and in the Mpeg file...

Hi,

My Mini DV Camcoder shows recording Date and Time on the Video. I am told that the Date & Time info is also present in the AVI file. Is there an option in TMPGEnc to show this in the encoded MPEG file?

Question - TE25 - green vertical bars! No.32246
elvis42  2002-12-22 04:05:32 ( ID:pk8ltt7jtmj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Recently when I attempt to convert an avi file to dvd format (ntsc), the resultant mpg has a green vertical bar through it?

Why? What am i doing wrong?

ASHY  2002-12-22 14:37:02 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This is probably an illegal resolution problem. The input size has to be in multiples of 16 otherwise you will get this sort of problem.

You can correct this with Virtualdub then frameserve to TMPG.
What is the size of your AVI?

Why Don"t you Tell us what you are trying to do(Make a VCD and SVCD)What you did and What problem specificly you are haveing....You basicly just load in the Source file(It can"t just be any file) then Follow the directions the "WiZard" gives you, then Burn the File as a VCD/SVCD ect with a Program that supports burning that format, like Nero or VCDEasy and any number of Programs.....Go here : http://www.vcdhelp.com/

Question - TE25 - Widescreen Perhaps? No.32241
Sakuya  2002-12-21 23:26:03 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi again and thanks for the help last time! I went to test out something to see what other things that TMPGEnc can do. What happens if I went to do the Unlock extra in the "Load" menu and then set the settings to that of a SVCD but the output file is MPEG-1? I'm curious, I'm the experiment type. The display area shows that the video is shortened. Perhaps this is widescreen?

Sakuya  2002-12-22 02:34:53 ( ID:ma8lfwhzhl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Um I guess that's not supposed to happen and after the video finished encoding, there was only audio heard with a black screen. So I followed Minion's directions at raising the bitrate to 1600.I had the size at 352x240 is that ok? I'm wondering how come there are 2 large black spaces on the sides and the video seems to be squished in the middle and sort of elongated?

Minion  2002-12-23 01:46:47 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are you watching this Mpeg file with Media Player???Cuz if you are then that is why it looks wierd, Use DVD Playing software Cuz Media Player Plays mpeg files with incorrect aspect ratios....but if you want to change the way the picture looks in the screen then use the settings in the "Clip Frame" settings...

Question - TE25 - mpeg entry points No.32234
supersgamo  2002-12-21 23:09:47 ( ID:ranbz7nzpph )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I need to transcode an MPEG audio/video file with an audio bit rate of 192K to another file with audio bit rate of 224K, so as to make it VCD 2 compatible. The coding works fine, but while the original file had more than 1700 valid entry points to set chapters, the trancoded file only has just one! Anybody can explain me why this happens..and what I can do to fix the problem?
Thanks.

Minion  2002-12-22 06:22:08 ( ID:a6p1jd3ovjw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well that is Impossible to Not have any Valid Chapter points..Any I Frame can be a Potential Chapter Point.and Why encode the Whole File if you Just need the audio to Be 224kbs???Just de-mux the Mpeg file and Just encode the audio to 224kbs and Mux it with the Video and you will have your Totally VCD Compliant file.Re-Encodeing it Just for the audio is Just going to Degrade the Quality of the File and VCD Files are bad enough ...What are you useing to Put in Chapters????

ASHY  2002-12-22 11:17:47 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There is no need to change the bitrate to 224kb/s. The bitrate 192kb/s is already VCD compatible. You won't improve the quality of the sound, but will likely reduce it. Any of these bitrates, 128, 192, 224, or 384kbit/sec can be used for making compatible VCD 2.0 MPEGS.

ASHY

karpro  2002-12-22 12:27:45 ( ID:lwmt.mgxf.. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i'm relatively new to tis, but i believe if you go into the settings page, under the gop structure tab check the close gop box that should solve the problem

supersgamo  2002-12-22 21:40:18 ( ID:ranbz7nzpph )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I know it sounds strange, but that is exactly what happens.
I use vcdcomposer to author my vcd - when I scan the mpeg file it tells me that I just have...1 frame, so all chapters are linked to the closest valid entry point which happens to be the origin of the file.
In the meantime I managed to fix the problem by simply loading the settings for a VCD-PAL file, while previosuly I was just changing the audio bit-rate. When I encode the file in this way, I get my entry points back in place. I have no good explanation as to why this happens.

Thanks for the hint to just encode the audio part - I will try to do so.
By the way, if I play back my vcd without reencoding audio at 224K, the audio is distorted and all chopped. The re-encoded file plays back properly.

ASHY,

You have one small mistake, for VCD only 224kbps audio is supported in the VCD 2.0 standard. 128, 192 and 384kbps are only supported for the Segment items, not for the main video tracks.

ASHY  2002-12-22 23:24:49 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Actually you are probably right there. I'm getting my SVCD specs mixed up with my VCD specs.

VCD 2.0 should be fixed at 224kb/s

It's been a while since I looked at any specs and just assumed from what I could remember about SVCD audio specs that these would also apply to VCD, but apparantly not.
