TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 BBS [ Sorted by thread creation date ]
hello this software is awesome. I recently upgraded my video to a 2gb NVidia. so im using it but the cuda cores aren't being used. im not sure why, just the processor. can anyone help me?
Suggest trying the latest GEForce drivers, which seem to reinstate CUDA support.
Over in the TAW5 forum people were having the same issues, but CUDA is working fine for me with GEForce 344.75.
I have a 24 fps progressive video clip. What will the encoded result be like if I choose "Progressive" instead of "3:2 pulldown" as the Display Mode in the 'Format' section properties? Thanks.
Hello, I have read that Nvidia is set to release a couple new gpu's including a GTX 980 with 2048 CUDA cores. The current top of the line card is the GTX 780ti which has 2880 CUDA cores. Would the extra cores on the 780ti equal faster encoding times? I currently have a GTX 770 (1536 CUDA cores) and am seriously considering an upgrade, not only for faster encoding but 1440P gaming also. Thanks
More cuda cores mean more GPGPU power, but for decoding/encoding video do not need much power and you do not usually use 100% of Cuda Cores. If you only encode/decode several video files at same time is possible to use more Cuda Cores, but limitation will be then HDD speed, CPU speed/number of cores, etc.
Your encode time (for one video file only) will be the same with a GTX 770 or a GTX 780Ti for example.
GTX 980/970/750 are new Maxwell arthitecture based (GTX 770/780 series are Kepler architecture based). Maxwell is more efficient, has better performance per watt than Kepler and with same amount of Cuda Cores Maxwell has more performance than kepler.
In this moment TMPGEnc not works fine with Maxwell architecture.
I have a GTX670 (1344 CUDA cores), and using the free GPU-Z utility to monitor loading, I find that encoding rarely loads the GPU or Video Engine more than 50%. So I'm not sure more cores would provide faster encoding. On the plus side, I sometimes run another encoding utility at the same time and make use of the spare capacity.
for much faster editing, rendering etc you need the following.
1. something like the gtx 980
2. a load of memory something like 32gb
3.ssd as a main drive
4.ssd as the drive its reading the source file from
5.ssd for the end project to be rendered to.
I have a problem I need some help with...When I set the xvid format and select single pass everything works correctly. But when select 2 pass encoding it does a single pass only. When I select 2 pass Fist past or 2 pass second pass I get an error that reads "stats not found". I would like to make a two pass encoding using
the xvid codec but it seems impossible to do! I have the latest xvid codec installed.
It use to work doing a two pass encoding and if i remember correctly when it started encoding, the preview remained black until the second pass encoding started. It also stated running "first pass" somewhere on the screen....
It is very puzzling as I think I have tried ever setting I could think of. The two pass encoding works fine using the divx settings also....
For Xvid, you do each pass separately, so you are probably remembering a 2-pass output for another format, or an older xvid codec version.
Select "Twopass - 1st pass" first, then click on the "more..." button and make sure you select a directory for your video.pass file.
Then, output the file.
After that, go back to the Format stage and select "Twopass - 2nd pass" and then output the file again. It should already know where your video.pass file is if you properly set its location in the 1st pass.
When I encode a file is there a way of doing a preview so I can see a brief clip of the output of my encoding. I basically want to see if the quality is either shocking or acceptable of my re-encoded files.
I've tried the Preview button but it only shows what your clips will look like with any filters, etc not what they look like after encoding. I noticed when encoding the preview shows the source picture is there a way of showing the destination/output image ?
To see how it would look after encoding, you'd have to encode it. So no, there's no encoding preview.
However, you could just create a small clip from your footage (like 20 seconds or so) and then encode it with your output settings to see what the quality is like.
Hello,
Today I downloaded and installed the latest version 5.5.1.106 and also updated to the latest nvidia geforce drivers 340.52. Now cuda is broken and is not even an option in the encoder drop down list. I have it enabled in the options and have tried the optimization many times and it just won't work. I have tried reinstalling the program and the nvidia drivers with no success, also tried going back to the previous version and nvidia drivers. I've also tried different videos, some 1080P and others 720P, mp4 and wmv. It worked great before I updated...WTF is going on?
I couldn't get CUDA to work with the newest version. I had to uninstall and go back to 5.5.0.105 and geforce 337.88 drivers, but at least its working again.
Still running 5.5.0.105 with CUDA but now I have found another problem. None of the file naming options for the output folder/file work so I have to manually rename the output file. In The options menu I have it set to "Number_Clip Name.Extension" and it used to add a "00_" to each original filename however it no longer works and I have to change it manually or choose to overwrite the original file. I'm starting to get really frustrated and can't believe how buggy this program is.
Well I'm not sure what I did or how I did it but I'm now running version 5.5.1.106 with geforce 337.88 drivers and have CUDA working and I also figured out the file renaming problem I was having. I'm not gonna worry about updating the geforce drivers for now, probably wait for the next release and try it then.
I'd like to ask if you could please add the possibility to create 10-bit encodes with the x264 encoder. 10-bit encodes can help to save space and also to reduce banding compared to regular 8-bit x264 encodes. This is especially important when encoding animes.
Seeking advice on how to use TMPGEnc VMW5 to change tint of 45 min MKV video clips from a cold blue tint to a warmer more yellow tint and possibly make it a bit sharper while keeping a similar small file size (250 MB or slightly larger)
The video clips are 45 min MKV approx 250 MB.
I am not strong on video formats but Freemake indicates that the specs of the clips are:
For changing the tint, you will probably need to use a color correction filter on your video. Go to the Edit stage and double-click your clip to open the editing window. Go to the Filter tab and click on the color correction filter, then adjust the color until it is suitable to your tastes.
As for output, size will depend on the format and bitrate among other things. I suggest using the same format as the source file, H.264, and you can probably use the same bitrates as well.
Another question:
How do I queue and process a number of video clips and edit them with the same color correction settings without joining them together?
You can save your filter settings as a template, then apply them to other clips.
You can also set a filter template as your default filter settings, so that when you start a new project, any clips added will have that filter setting applied automatically. You can change the default filter template in the preferences.
Thanks for tips tk.
Can you give the keystroke steps to save a template of a file colour edit and how to queue and automatically progressively process a number of similar files applying the saved template. What is the batch tab and how do you use it?
>Thanks for tips tk.
>Can you give the keystroke steps to save a template of a file colour edit and how to queue and automatically progressively process a number of similar files applying the saved template. What is the batch tab and how do you use it?
- In the Filter tab of the cut editing window, set up your filter settings as you want.
- Click on "Save the template" (or Alt + S) to save your filter settings as a filter template file.
- After saving the file, leave the cut editing window by clicking the "OK" button. Remember where you saved your file!
- The best way to apply a filter template to multiple files is to set it as the default filter setting. Do this by going to Options-->Preferences-->Clip editing-->Clip default settings. Under "Default filter template," select your filter template file and click "OK" to exit the preferences.
- Now start a new project (in Normal Mode) and add all of the video clips you'd like to apply the filters to. Once your clips are added, the filters are applied automatically thanks to the default filter settings you just set.
- In the Format stage, for "File output mode", select "Output each clip as a separate file".
- Go the Encode stage and click on the "Encode" button to output the clips to the selected folder.
You can also do this in Timeline mode, just put each clip on a separate layer and output each layer separately.
To output a single layer, click on the "S" button for the layer you want to output. This makes it so all other layers are invisible.
Then select your format and go to the Encode stage and use the "Add Batch" button to use the Batch Tool instead of the "Export" button to save time.
The Batch Tool allows you to add multiple outputs to the batch list and then output them one after the other. This way, you don't have to wait around for an output to finish before outputting another file; it just goes to the next one automatically.
I have a problem with content in h.264 (x264, mp4) via HLS on IPads (and IPhones) with IOS 7 and 8. The first 10-15 seconds of the video are freezed, but it seems on the first frame of the second TS package. The sound plays perfectly.
For the HLS segmenting, a wowza server is used.
So I changed every possible setting in TMPGenc 5 (x264), I tried to be as close to Apples requirements as possible. I tried the built - in - Presets of TMPGenc but with no success either.
What could be ruled out are errors with wowza, as h264 files from other encoders are working fine.
Intel SDK and CUDA produce random successful files, with no logical pattern - but they are no option due to quality issues. We use MPEG2 and M2TS as source files.
What we analyzed is:
- x264 from TMPGenc produces h264 files with a slightly different structure (SPS+PPS+IDR) than other encoders.
- x264 from TMPGenc exceeds the VBV buffer all the time
Do you also have encountered such a problem? Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
If you are editing in normal mode, from the Edit stage, double click on your clip to open the clip editing window, then go to the Clip Properties tab. From there you can specify a different audio source.
If you just want to overlay another audio file on top of existing audio, you should edit in Timeline mode.
Create a new layer and add the audio file to that layer.
Up front: I am a newbie, I am using TMPGEnc Video Mastering 5 (latest version) since yesterday.
1) I have created a .mkv from a part of DVD.
That went fine - playback is fine, including subtitles, etc.
2) Whilst being on the [Encode] tab and TMPGEnc Video Mastering nót being closed, so immediately after the point of the produced .mkv file, I would like to switch to Timeline Editor.
From the Encode-tab I click on the [Edit]-tab and then on TimeLine button.
I get a kind of warning :
'
You cannot return to the Normal mode when you go in Timeline mode.
Do you really want to go in timeline mode?
'
I click on [Yes]
Questions: under timeline [edit]-tab
the thumbnail of the video displayed in the timeline-bar, is that the _existing_ .mkv file?
(the one I created in the first step)
Or
is it the 'source' that I have used -before- I created the 1st .mkv file?
Meaning to say: when I do changes in the timeline, in this case, then these are changes to an existing .mkv file?
If so, when editing an existing .mkv file and when encoding (again..), I assume this will result in a decrease of quaility?
If it is the same project session that created the mkv file, then the files in the Edit stage are your source files from the DVD. The outputted file will never replace the source files.
It will only be the mkv file in the Edit stage if you started a new project and used the mkv file as a source.
