Dear users, please tell us your opinion!

The new version of DVD Author will be released under the new brand
name "TSUNAMI MPEG" (TSUNAMI MPEG DVD AUTHOR PRO).
We are worried that it may have a negative impact on our customers,
due to the TSUNAMI that occurred last year, in Sumatra and the South East Asia.

However TSUNAMI is also the original name of the free software TMPGEnc (TSUNAMI MPEG ENCODER).
TSUNAMI is a common word in Japan, because we often hear it in our everday life.
But, in overseas, this name may directly be related to the disaster of last year.

So we would like to ask you:

1) what is your opinion about this brand name?

2) and what do you think would be the general opinion, or the opinion of a newbie who
doesn't know the origin name of TMPGEnc?

Thank you for your cooperation.
Pegasys team

The Tsunami word does not bother me (in Austrlia) and if anything, the word makes it easier for me to recall the software, codec etc.

I am mucking around with a lot of codecs and software at the moment so I can hardly forget this one with such a name.
Negative impact= nil
codec/software name recall = 100%

This software codec is and has been constantly mentioned on other sites particularly help and tuition sites, best to leave the name intact or loose the benefits of past positive references.

I wish you folks would also ask for our opinions on the products and new features we would like to see added.

I have submitted many excellent feature requests to your tech support, only to be told they are not needed. Clearly, they do not listen to the users feedback, and I have stopped submittng ideas.

If I had a clear channel to the programmers, I would be happy to resubmit the ideas. BTW, I know the guy that started the TMpeg products, as I worked at the company that designed the compiler he used at the time (Delphi).

I was wondering if you can editing into the program. I'm using it for scientific research and would like to cut out the boring bits of my research film.

remerge the cut/edit and multiplex/deplex engine found in tmpeg 2.5 so i can get rid of 2.5 and use only one tool for my need (i.e rip a audio stream out and re-encode it and re-multipex it back in so i dont waste 2 hours re-encoding the movie wht the video it self is fine)

oops reqad the message wrong , the name seems fine. anyboy who goes to your webpage can easily tell of you companys home background and see you mean no harm with your name , and besides in the video editing world it is a established house name next to gneeral electric sony chevy, etc so dont change it

I converted an avi to mpeg and now the music is breaking up on the vcd, how can I correct this problem?

dan witzel  2005-11-08 01:38:31 ( ID:nuppnkrtkfc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

if the audio bitrate is too low for the channels used (ie 128k stereo) then this will happen , either swith to mono or increase the audio bitrate, also try getting rid of joint stero if used as some dvd playes cant handle it and also VCD is 44KHZ not 48KHZ

Can I convert quicktime mov files by tmpgenc.
Or should I use another program.

dan witzel  2005-11-08 01:51:16 ( ID:nuppnkrtkfc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

as long as you have a DShow filter installed (QT does not do this) then you can do it look at quick time alternative

Has anyone experienced the problem of the last few minutes on a file that has been merged messing up? I have the audio but the video freezes. I have tried re-encoding and it still messes up. Everything's fine up to the last few minutes. This particular time, I merged four 60-minute mpeg's.

the program can make a vcd/scvd/dvd/etc... compliant stream , how ever you will need vcdimager or nero to put it into a container for the player vcdimager is still free i believe

I'm trying to convert an AVI file into a Mpeg file, but when I try to load the file to be converted I receive a message that the file can not be opened or is of an unsupported kind. How can I make the convertion? How do I get a help? How do I by the licence? And how does it costs?

Question - MPEG 2 - Cannot Open or Not Supported No.54399
Part Monster  2005-07-12 18:19:57 ( ID:2rujuwfpcnl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have some videos of the Laguna Seca Race that I recorded with my ATI 8500 DV. They are in MPEG 2 format but when I try to open in TMPGENC it says it's not supported. What gives?

I need to but out the commercials and shrink the video size to fit on DVD 4.7GB.

Thanks in advance.

Louie

I too made .mpg files using my ATI8500DV and TMPGEnc won't open them.
"cannot open or unsupported"

Please help.

In ATIs MMC there are parameters for mpeg2 B- and P-frames. Default is 3/2, set this to 4/2 and TMPGEnc will accept your mpeg2-files.

Question - TMPGEnc insists on 768 x 576 output No.54395
Retro  2005-06-14 09:48:42 ( ID:gjyqh/yyh.l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm trying to convert a 576 x 320 (16:9 -ish) avi to an MPG I can stick on an SVCD (PAL, so 480 x 576). No matter what I do, the output MPG is 768 x 576.

OK, so what am I doing? 1. Use the wizard, don't mess with any settings. 768 x 576. 2. Use the wizard, then go and change the input to 16:9, verify that output is set to 480 x 576 (greyed out)... 768 x 576. 3. Mess with various settings, interlace on both sides, no matter what, the output seems to stick at 768 x 576.

What am I doing wrong?

You are posting in the wrong forum...

Where do you see this 768x576? In Media Player? Forget it... Media Player always says 768x576 on full resolution MPEG2.

Question - Cannot get TMPGE to open DVD2AVI files No.54392
Glenn  2005-06-01 12:34:43 ( ID:y0nrdksbyfj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I hope someone can help me with this: I have followed what seems to be a very good guide to get DVD's to CD located here http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd2vcd_with_smart_dvd2avi_tmpgenc_page_4.cfm

but when it comes time to use TMPGE to open the video and audio files I keep getting an error "file..... cannot open or not supported". I have attempted this with 2 DVD's now with no luck.

I know this isn't much info to go on but if you need any more please ask, or give me some hints as to what I should be doing/checking.

Thanks.

Question - Small Problem Reading a File No.54390
Ben  2005-05-31 03:06:47 ( ID:vedkgb3zypa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi guys, I have a small problem with one of the files I am trying to backup.

I have sucessfully used the "Convert a DivX or XviD AVI to DVD" guide (available http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd_page_4.cfm) to burn one of my DivX files to a DVD, but there is one I have been having trouble with recently. The file is 25 fps PAL, with mpeg layer 3 sound. I fill out all the steps in the guide very carefully, but when I get to the bitrate page, it becomes impossible for me to reduce the bitrate below 2000, and the file is still said to be 128.70% of the disc capacity, which of course will not work. Here is a screenshot of the problem:

http://img98.echo.cx/img98/2176/tmpgenc8gx.png

As you can see, TMPGEnc reads the file as being 311 minutes long, and I honestly have no idea why, the file is 1 hour and 59 minutes and I see no reason why it should be showing up as that. I'm pretty sure the problem is somewhere within there, but any advice that could be given would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

-- Ben

First, that's the wrong forum here.
Second, your Video do include mp3-audio. This is a well known problem, often solved. Got to the correct forum and use the search button.
