Question - CUDA support in percentage? No.58568
fets  2008-12-05 22:14:19 ( ID:ejojojpcy9f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello Forum!

I read in this forum:
"the encoding speed of TMPGENC is faster, circa 10% (90% CPU, 10 % GPU)"

My question: where can I see this info in TMPGENC (working percent of CPU, and percent of GPU)? In one word, the "division of labour"?

I can't find this info panel in TMPGENC 4.0 Xpress.

Thanks!

tkrave  2008-12-05 23:32:52 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It's just some text that shows up under the progress bar when you're outputting. You must have CUDA enabled to see it.

Also, just because it is using the GPU, it doesn't necessarily mean that it will be faster. In fact, I think you should turn off CUDA if you are not applying video filters.

Free talk - Updated to Ver. 4.6.3.268 No.58566
tkrave  2008-12-05 18:20:59 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

For those unaware, TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress has been updated to version 4.6.3.268. Here are the latest revisions:

Fixed: CUDA - CUDA usage would not display when at 0%.
Fixed: CUDA - A color error would appear when using the video noise filter.
Fixed: CUDA - "Simple duplication on stripes only" and "Inverse pulldown (reinforced anti-stripes)" deinterlace mode would not function properly.
Fixed: When used in a Core i7 environment, the determination of the number of CPUs would become invalid.
Fixed: An error would arise when rotating a picture in the Slideshow editor.

Coould you also make CUDA work under limited users also and not just on admin level accounts? Shouldn't be that difficult to implement, and at the same time it would be a great feature for companies that don't want to grant their users admin-level access! :)

Bug report - AVI conversion No.58560
andyvogel  2008-12-05 10:26:20 ( ID:e8tqv8aznvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,

Since version 4.6.xxx the AVI conversion does not work for me any longer. I have to roll back to the latest 4.5.xxx version to still being able to use the program. If I click on AVI output format in any of the 4.6 version (that includes the latest update) the program just hangs and I have to shut down the process.

Sincerely,
Andy Vogel

tkrave  2008-12-05 19:52:35 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It hangs when you select the AVI format in the Format stage, or it hangs when you try to output the file?

What AVI codec are you using/trying to output to? What format is your input file in?

I haven't run into any problems converting to AVI yet, but if you can tell me the above info, I'll try it out on my machine.

andyvogel  2008-12-07 20:28:12 ( ID:e8tqv8aznvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,

It actually hangs when I try to convert a MPEG2 file into an uncompressed AVI file. It hangs right away when I just click on AVI as output file.

andyvogel  2008-12-11 10:34:09 ( ID:ibqbazvfqdf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello tkrave,

Regardless of what file type the input file is in the newest version of the program I cannot even open the AVI conversion. Means I don't even get to the point to choose the AVI codec.

Thank you!

It's strange that it works in 4.5 but not in 4.6. AVI output has been working the same as usual on my machine.

Couple of things you can check and try:

1) Go to Options-->Preferences-->Input/Output format list, and see if there is a "+" in the Output column for AVI and Wave. There may be a problem with the program checking the AVI encoder if there is a "-" in the output column.

2) Try deleting the system config file for 4.0 XPress. This file is typically found in "C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\Pegasys Inc\TMPGEnc4P". In this directory, there will be a file called "TMPGEnc4XP_SystemConfig.en" You can just add a number to the name or move it to a different directory instead of deleting it. After you've done so, start up 4.0 XPress and see if AVI output works.

3) See if you have the latest version of DirectX.

4)Uninstall and reinstall 4.0 XPress. It might just be a bad install.

tkrave  2008-12-12 19:29:51 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It may also be a codec problem. Try comparing the codec list between version 4.5 and 4.6 to see if there is a difference.

To check your AVI codec list, go to Options-->Preferences-->AVI settings.

When 4.0 XPress is started, it only checks the input codecs. Then, when you reach the Format stage and select AVI output, it checks the output codecs. Since this is where you're getting the lockups, it's reasonable to think that a codec might be the problem. However it's still odd that it would work in 4.5 and not 4.6.

Would you mind sharing your codec list?

Question - NVIDIA compatibility list No.58557
forgo  2008-12-03 18:25:31 ( ID:ejojojpcy9f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello!

Where can be found a full, and actual list, that contains all of NVIDIA VGA cards, which cards support the CUDA technology (with TMPEG 4.0 XPress naturally)?

Thanks

tkrave  2008-12-05 20:01:31 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Here's the list of CUDA-ready VGA cards:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/cuda_learn_products.html

As for being compatible with 4.0 XPress...it seems that only the GeForce8800 GTX/GTS video card using the G80 core is the only one NOT supported so far.

m.savazzi  2008-12-26 23:27:48 ( ID:kyqa5k6g7kh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have a 8800GTS and the CUDA dialog is NOT enabled even if the card is CUDA 2.0 and drivers are the correct version!

any idaea ?

Question - NVIDIA CUDA with TMPGENC No.58555
molngab  2008-12-03 18:04:45 ( ID:ejojojpcy9f )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello!

I use TMPGENC 4.0 XPress with NVIDIA CUDA support.
I have a simple, low-cost Geforce 8400 GS VGA with 256 MB RAM.
If I switch on the CUDA in TMPGENC, the encoding speed of TMPGENC is faster, circa 10% (90% CPU, 10 % GPU).

My question: if I buy a new, stronger VGA card, with better GPU-the speed-increasing will be higher?

Thanks!

myself  2008-12-05 09:31:53 ( ID:uexq2jhhhql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think that if you have a powerful CPU the CUDA features are not used, that is why there is no difference in the speed, I guess this CUDA features are maily to be used for filtering functions.
good luck

Bug report - TMPGENC crashes when Mpeg2 decoding with Cuda No.58551
Brother  2008-12-02 09:59:45 ( ID:iam3xobbyfk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

when I'm encoding with Mpeg2 Decoding for Cuda activated the app crashes every time. I've read the remark about the Mpeg2 decoding result. But it's just unusable.

andyr2005  2008-12-02 23:55:00 ( ID:tzmtib8cqjj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,

Which version of the NVIDIA driver are you using?

Brother  2008-12-03 10:47:15 ( ID:nifzr9rvsvn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

tried official WHQL 180.48 and Beta 180.70 doesn't matter which one - the result is the same

andyr2005  2008-12-04 18:30:45 ( ID:tzmtib8cqjj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well,

The problem seems to be existant on all Geforce cards, with a common deliminator of the hardware accelerated MPEG2 decoding.

The problem is that TMPGEnc seems to be trying to do the decoding using CUDA, which in fact it does not need to as it is supported in Hardware via the driver interfaces.

Decoding MPEG2 in Hardware via CUDA is not the best method and probably not supported anyways.

Question - 280GTX: Clocking down to 2D Modus results in poor performance No.58549
Brother  2008-12-02 09:47:51 ( ID:iam3xobbyfk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, when I'm encoding my GTX-280 is clocking down to the 2D-Clock rates, resulting in a much longer rendering process (the estimated rendering time goes up)

normaly this clock down is controled by the workload but it clocks down anyway.

Is this a bug or a driver related problem?

Dave  2009-01-25 18:28:18 ( ID:3w5peyd5vu6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It's a driver issue related to the power system regulator of the GTX200 series.

The latest drivers 181.22 address this issue but you also have to have 'preview' ON while decoding because the card ups the clock for videos and games but not just for basic desktop use which is how it is supposed to be. As long as you have these drivers and turn on 'preview' the card will use full speed to decode.

Question - How to create 1366x768 H.264 (or DIVX) No.58547
Peter  2008-12-02 08:34:40 ( ID:kef2tf/rx6. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi there,

I am thinking about buying TMPGEnc Xpress to encode stuff from native HD resolution to a resolution that fits my TV best (HD Ready, 1366x768).
Until now the only optioin I found is DIVX HD 1280x700 - is there any way
to create a H.264 (or maybe a DIVX) with the above mentioned size settings?

I simply want to avoid that my TV is "upscaling" from 1280x720 by feeding it it's native resolution.

Thanks!

tkrave  2008-12-03 18:04:51 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It's possible with DivX if you select "Do not use profile" for the Output profile type.

I've also been able to set this resolution for the MPEG-4 AVC (h.264) format.

It did however, change the 1366 to 1368 for some reason.

Question - CPU 81% CUDA 19% ultilize, what is wrong? No.58545
johnlee  2008-11-30 22:18:04 ( ID:f.gm1unuizl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just to make sure according to the info on this site, CUDA is only enable to help with video filters right? not encoding the video itself? Because I tried to have CUDA ecoding my videos at its 100% and so far my cpu is doing most of the work (81%) and CUDA buzzling at 19%. I didn't have any filter checked. My laptop comes with geforce 8600m GS with latest forceware. Plz clarify!

tkrave  2008-12-01 22:55:23 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, Cuda is only enabled for video filters and MPEG-1/2 decoding. So if you're not doing either of those, the output time will not be accelerated such as in the example you gave.

Question - TMPGEnc can Merge MPEG files without encoder again? No.58541

i have a MPEG-2 Files with the same resolution and same Audio and same Bitrate
i want to Merge tham without to encoder tham
TMPGEnc CAN DO THIS?
if yes, how i do that?
which option to mark?

TMPGENC WORK WITH VISTA?

here the Picture after i do File > MPEG Tools... > Merge & Cut
http://up39.siz.co.il/up3/demzo5gjktyn.png
no Audio
No same bitrate
i use TMPGEnc-2.524.63.181-Free
in TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress i dont find the "Merge & Cut"

tkrave  2008-12-01 23:01:51 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't think you can merge MPEG files without re-encoding them with TMPGEnc free or TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress. Try TMPGEnc MPEG Editor 3; it has what they call Smart Rendering which does minimal re-encoding.

05007il  2008-12-02 07:43:58 ( ID:ct29k1svffl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

with VOBMerge 2.5 i dont need to re-encoding the files
this is free software
Thank you anyway

Question - Cuda is not working for me No.58533
aztec  2008-11-27 16:14:44 ( ID:qcakrejw5a2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello, i have version 4.6.2.266 of TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress and i'm trying to use the gpu to encode.

i went to Preferences/nVidia CUDA 2.0 and i checked the 3 option but it does not work.

it takes 6 minutes to encode a video with or with out those options checked.

WinXP64-Intel Dual-core@3200-nvidia 8800 GT

i have installed the 64b CUDA Drivers 2.1 would that be the problem ? should i get the 64b 2.0 driver ? (because in preference says "nVidia CUDA 2.0")

regards

aztec  2008-11-27 17:11:34 ( ID:qcakrejw5a2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i've tried with Cuda drivers 2.0 and its the same, does not work...

myself  2008-11-28 06:22:06 ( ID:uexq2jhhhql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think you guys have an unsupported grapgic card model.
In their website they have written in red text this:
"*Speed improvements are dependent on your hardware specifications.
The GeForce8800 GTX/GTS video card using the G80 core is not currently supported. Thank you for your understanding.
Decoding benefits apply to MPEG-1/2 video only and may produce unexpected video output quality compared to regular CPU decoding."
Reference:
http://tmpgenc.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/te4xp.html
so I think you should get a new CUDA card.
good luck

im having the sape problem too, im using the Nvidia gtx 280 which is the newset of nivida and Cuda is not working for me even with the latest driver.
any idea about fixing that isue.

tkrave  2008-12-01 22:58:58 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are you guys applying video filters? Are you decoding MPEG-1/2? If you are not doing either of those, you will not see a difference in encoding time. Simple as that.

Also, update the software to the latest version; they just released 4.6.3.267.

worldcitizen  2008-12-05 16:37:25 ( ID:py4r.all6km )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have the same problem. Before Cuda would show up now it's always on 0.0%. I'm using an 8800GT (G92) with the latest Nvidia 180 drivers. Is it a bug in the latest 268 release because version 267 worked ok?

tkrave  2008-12-05 18:14:13 ( ID:lgrl8ryjzyl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Have you guys run the performance optimizer? If not, do it; it may solve some problems.

And again, if you are not applying video filters or using the MPEG decoder, you will not see a difference in output time, nor will CUDA be used.

Question - 1080i AVCHD to 720p MPEG 2? No.58531
Lloyd  2008-11-27 08:31:42 ( ID:ptve11sazj. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Forgive please my newbie question, but I am planning on buying a camcorder (Canon Vexia HF100) that produces only 1080i AVCHD files. But my projectors are 720p. So can I use TMPGEnc to convert the 1080i AVCHD files to 720p mpeg2 files?

Thanks!

Lloyd

myself  2008-11-28 08:36:45 ( ID:uexq2jhhhql )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I think its possible, just check about MPEG-2 output template settings and choose the size, if I remember well you dont need to set it since its already set by default.
But before buy the software I recomend you to test its Trial version first.
good luck
