Question - Won't convert any format No.40904
jess2685  2004-02-09 13:24:05 ( ID:ke1qohdhshr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

any type of video I try to convert: mpg, wma, avi (several types), etc.. it will not work. I get a error message: "Read error occurred at address 00402F40 of module 'TMPGENC.EXE with 20656850". It worked fine before when I had the older version then one day it crashed then I tried the newer version (over lap and fresh install)and it still does it. I have a funny feeling it might be a dll or something (out of date or something) or reg entry currupted. but I don't know were to start. any help to help me trace it down would be greatly appreciated... Also direct show is the highest priorty setting. Again thx 4 any help.

jess2685  2004-02-10 14:51:41 ( ID:yuuun2zh8cf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

fixed it. I found a post that said the put a fresh copy of TMPGENC.exe so I re installed a fresh copy of that execution file and it works. Why the older version and this one both caused the same thing? Probably both downloads went sour. What are the possabilities of that happening back to back. thx if u were considering answering anyway! :)

Question - 720x480 Video Input No.40898
Man Win A Question  2004-02-09 03:20:08 ( ID:j3uqvqqt4q2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm encoding captured video (captured at 720x480) into MPEG-2 at the same resolution (using the DVD template, 4x3 aspect ratio, interlaced video). The problem is, the video output is at a resolution of 720x540. I read about this problem in another post (http://bbs.pegasys-inc.com/bbscgi/search/docs/en/tmpgenc/box68/tmpgenc_post_25686.html).

So, I've gotten that sorted out, except the previously mentioned post in referring to video that must be resized. What are the best settings for video that is already at the proper resolution? Why doesn't a 4x3 aspect ratio give the proper output?

Thanks.

ashy  2004-02-10 22:27:24 ( ID:qtd366km8cr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You are making a wrong setting some where. After you load your source file load the DVD NTSC template and I guarantee your output will be 720x480.
Before you encode just check that the output resolution is 720x480 under the 'Video' tab and you should be OK.

Man Win A Question  2004-02-11 01:19:05 ( ID:j3uqvqqt4q2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well, I tried any number of possible settings. If I choose MPEG-I, the video comes out as the desired 720x480, but as soon as I switch to MPEG-II, it changes to 720x540.

Maybe I need to look again. Are there any known problems with encoding video from HuffyUV files?

ashy  2004-02-11 17:51:54 ( ID:qtd366km8cr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

>If I choose MPEG-I, the video comes out as the desired 720x480, but as soon as I switch to MPEG-II, it changes to 720x540.

That's impossible. If it says 720x480 under the VIDEO tab, it will be 720x480 no matter what the input resolution is unless you have a corrupted version of TMPG.
How are you determining the resolution of the resulting file?

ashy  2004-02-11 17:55:26 ( ID:qtd366km8cr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I would like you to set up TMPG to encode as normal then copy and paste the information at the bottom of the TMPG window here.

Man Win A Question  2004-02-13 01:25:33 ( ID:j3uqvqqt4q2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ok, well, it turns out Windows Media Player was lying about the resolution of the video.

Sorry.

Question - Please help w/join error No.40896
Quadzilla  2004-02-08 17:33:50 ( ID:eglf4icztsw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi All,
I'm trying to merge 4 MPEG 2 files into 1 using TMPGENC but get the error "BOBFEST2.mpg IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH OTHER MPEG FILE" where bobfest2.mpg is the 2nd file I had added to the merge cut window. If I remove the bobfest2 file I get the same error w/the next file. Avicodec
list all 4 files as
File : xxx MB (0.0 B), duration 0:00:00, type MPG, 1 audio stream(s), quality 80 %
Video : 0.0 B, 2520 Kbps, 25.0 fps, res. 480*576 (16:9), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Supported
Audio : 0.0 B, 192 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 chan., 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0], Supported

I'd tried using both MPEG2 PROGRAM and MPEG2 SuperVCD in "type". Any help w/getting around this error is appreciated. Thanks!

If one is not the same, then no you cannot do this.

Load only one, then save another copy out with Split, select the right one from the drop down list. Do the same with the others..

If its only a small problem, that might fix it, else you need to re-encode

Question - weird distortion No.40893
tmercado  2004-02-07 20:24:11 ( ID:hdhcbp8iotk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i've got a problem here... i'm trying to make a VCD out of some AVI files. most of them work, but w/ 2 of them i get some funky visual distortion where the pictures kind of leave trails and turn all green and stuff, kind of hard to describe. anyway, it's only 2 of several files that do this. they work fine when i play them in windows media player, but when they go through TMPGenc they get this distortion. what's the problem here? is it fixable?

jjspierx  2004-02-11 05:33:39 ( ID:njxstyytwxw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've seen that before too...it kind of looks like what I imagine a crazy acid trip to look like. I uninstalled all my codecs that I had installed at the time, and reinstalled just the ones that I knew I would need, and the problem went away.

Question - Encoding to 704x480 hangs No.40892
letrout  2004-02-07 18:02:20 ( ID:itu799rfrlo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

My captures from my Hauppage card are 704x480 (broadcast D1) MPEG2. When I try to re-encode them in TMPGEnc to a lower bitrate (using 2-pass VBR) TMPGEnc will hang after a few hours, making no progress. This is during the analyze phase. This doesn't seem to happen if I choose 720x480 or 352x480 for the output, but I would prefer to keep the resolution unchanged during the conversion. What settings should I be using?

Is it VOB, is the audio Ac3?
If so you won't get audio in the output.

I am trying to re-encode a dvd that was too big, have used smartripper and then dvd2avi which leaves me with a .d2v and a .wav file. However when i try to re-encode I get absolutely no sound, even the previews are soundless?? When finished i am left with an mpeg that plays perfectly(with no sound) and an additional .wav file that plays fine but can't seen to get them in the same place at the same time! Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me up the wall!!

Cheers

ashy  2004-02-07 17:14:47 ( ID:9id7dwdyfvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are you saying that after importing the wa into TMPG that you have no audio resulting in the MPEG?

Try raising the priority of the 'WAV reader' in the VFAPI plugins.

You can check your audio by clicking the audio tab in advanced settings.

homerjay  2004-02-08 13:36:18 ( ID:kuy7jktdqxo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

At the end of the encoding i have a completely separate soundless mpeg and a new .wav file, both of which play fine. Could this be something to do with the bitrate of the .wav file that is keeping them separate?? When testing the audio i do get sound but the preview has no sound. Have tried upgrading the priority of the wav reader but still no joy...

ashy  2004-02-08 16:40:01 ( ID:t68xbjbwda. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

LOL...now I realise what you have done.
You have created elementary files for importing into a DVD authoring program.
If you are creating a DVD just import both files into your authoring software.

The next time you use the wizard make sure you select 'CBR MPEG-1 layerII audio(mp2)' from the drop down menu this will give you a combined Video and Audio MPEG.

Question - Encoding test clip No.40882
Julien  2004-02-06 23:37:20 ( ID:wtp4rmesabn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello,

I'm using DVD2SVCD along with TMPG as encoder. How many times does 'encoding test clip' happens ?

- Encoding Test Clip D:DVD2SVCDMovieAviSynth_Script_file_CQ_TEST.avs
Wanted: 1466637817 (1432263kb)
Predicted: 1252605967 (1223248kb) Using CQ Value: 80.55
Calculated next CQ Value: 86.90
Executing TMPGEnc. Commandline:
"D:TMPGTMPGEnc.exe" "D:DVD2SVCDMovieTMPGEnc_Project_file.tpr" /Encode /Close

I dont know if this is normal or not but this 'encoding test clip' has been happening over and over again. I'd like to know if I have done something wrong or if this is a normal thing. Thanks, be a patient please I'm just a newb ;)

ashy  2004-02-07 17:16:10 ( ID:9id7dwdyfvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This is not a TMPG problem this is a DVD2SVCD issue. Go to that forum for advice.

ashy  2004-02-07 17:19:21 ( ID:9id7dwdyfvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It seems that the method of CQ that you are using needs to do a test run to determine the parameters to set.
If you don't want it to happen then use CBR as the encoding method.

Question - Creating a two-hour+ DVD No.40879
elvis  2004-02-06 07:48:49 ( ID:.6kifs3yqvk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

want to make a DVD 2.5 hours in length by converting some avi files I have to the "low resolution" dvd ntsc standard. I understand how to get the resulting mpeg2 files-but how do I burn them? all burning programs i've seen set the 2 hour limit. will my set-top dvd player play a dvd with just an mpeg burned on it? what if i wanted to create menus and chapters etc?

sorry for the length. newbie, you know?

B_Racer  2004-02-06 08:51:22 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There is no 2 hour limit, there are only dump Authoring-Programs. Most of my DVDs are filled with up to 5 or more hours of Video, that's absolutly nor problem.
Try TMPGEnc DVD Author or DVDLab for creating and burning your DVDs.

Question - Which encoder to use for TMPGenc No.40872
Dennis Lowe  2004-02-05 13:05:29 ( ID:dro3epfsbrn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi,
I've been playing with TMPGenc Plus (2.521.58.169) and its great! I mainly use it for converting HD (1289x720) M2T files to AVI for use in a film compositing package (Combustion).
I've noticed that it uses my elecard mpeg encoder, is there a way to change what I assume to be its default encoder?
I have recently discovered VLC mpeg player (its very fast)and looks gorgeous, can I make the VLC encoder work with TMPGenc?

B_Racer  2004-02-05 13:35:26 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPGEnc IS an Encoder and does not use an other. Your Elecard-Thing is a DEcoder (only for Playback), and it's trail periode is over, eh?

If you have problems to open MPEG2 with TMPGEnc, try mme (google: mme +vfapi)

Dennis Lowe  2004-02-05 14:33:53 ( ID:dro3epfsbrn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

No I bought the Elecard 2.1 player and it does what it says on the tin! but when I check my M2T files via G-Spot it tells me that it is using Elecard codec.
I am new to this part of the world and am used to physical frames that I can composite with various images and I'd like to be able to dictate which decoder I want TMPGenc to use.

ashy  2004-02-07 17:23:17 ( ID:9id7dwdyfvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

>No I bought the Elecard 2.1 player and it does what it says on the tin! but when I check my M2T files via G-Spot it tells me that it is using Elecard codec.

Yes and as B_racer already told you that means that your the Elecard codec is being used to decode the file not encode it.

Every movie file needs a codec to decode it so it can be played back. Yours is using the Elecard codec for decoding MPEG2.

ashy  2004-02-07 17:26:35 ( ID:9id7dwdyfvg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

>I am new to this part of the world and am used to physical frames that I can composite with various images and I'd like to be able to dictate which decoder I want TMPGenc to use.

You don't seem to be getting the message!

TMPG is already an encoder that uses it's own internal MPEG2 encoding codec.
That's why it's called an encoder. You CANNOT use an external codec for encoding!

Why would you want to anyway? TMPG is one of the best quality encoders around.

Dennis Lowe  2004-02-08 10:37:40 ( ID:dro3epfsbrn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

OK It's finally sunk in!
Thanks for persistance, Can anybody recommend a good teaching guide on mpeg technology?
