TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.5 & 1.6 / TSUNAMI MPEG DVD Author BBS [ Sorted by thread creation date ]
I used DVD Author to make a DVD of several short 10 minute video clips. I created a menu screen that contains a chapter for each clip. There were a total of 3 menu screens, each containing 4 chapters.
The menus work fine but if I am playing a particular clip and hit the menu button on my remote to get back to the menu screen, I am always put back at the first menu screen and not the menu screen that had the particular clip I was playing. Any way to correct or change this?
Also, when a clip is finished playing, the next clip starts to play automatically. How can I configure DVD Author so that it will return to the menu screen after it finsihed playing a clip?
I looked under the options you indicated but there is nothing there that lets you control what exactly DVD Author does after it plays a certain track or when the menu button on the remote is pressed. It only gives you the option to go back to the main menu after the last track has finished playing and to display the main menu when the disk is first inserted.
Hello, I record from a Super VHS VCR to my Panasonic DVD Recorder onto a DVD-RAM disc. I then take the DVD-RAM disc and put it into my Toshiba DVD-ROM in my computer to copy the video file (.VRO) to my hard-drive. I then use TMPGENC DVD Author to edit, create, and compile my DVD project. A random problem I'm encountering is that when I'm editing the .VRO, some parts of the video file appear with as a half screen on the editing screen. This happens randomly with different videos. When compiling my final project, the motion chapters appear as a split screen as well. What exactly is causing this and is there a solution to this problem? It is very irritating seeing my final project come out this way. Please let me know if anyone else has been able to resolve this problem. Is there a future fix coming out?
Try switching "Hybrid VBR Resolution" on your Panasonic recorder from Automatic to Fixed when recording RAMs for PC editing. That should solve your problem. See also:

I have a problem with the number of channels which TDA writes in the ifos of the final Disk.
My source files are all in Dolby Digital 5.1 when I make a DVD out of this files the Channel Number in the Video_Ts.ifo and the VTS_01.ifo are only 2. Some DVD Players have problems to play the full sound if the number of channels of the source isn't equal to the number of channels which is provided by the IFOs.
With TDA (unlike other home dvd authoring tools) it's possible to "mix" vids with different audio types - there may be tracks with ac3 5.1, ac3 2.0, LCPM and mp2 on *one* DVD. So IMHO there can't be a correct "global" channel number in VIDEO_TS.IFO, instead this is set in every track IFO (VTS_*.IFO).
I think any channel numbers found in VIDEO_TS.IFO set only the audio channels of menus.
I'm having trouble making a DVD from mpeg files (in vcd format). I'm using the version 1.5.13.44.
The mpeg plays fine in Media Player, but there is a small "glitch" (looks like a few frames are "skipped").
In 'Chapter Cut Edit' there is no thumbnails of the frames after this "glitch" for several minutes. As a result the .vob file is only 90 MB instead of 440 MB (the video stops at the "glitch").
Does anyone have any suggestions what I could do to solve this?
I tried converting a couple of other mpegs (vcd) to DVD and they worked fine. Is TMPGEnc DVD Author really this "picky" about errors in the mpeg?
i have the exact same problem, VCD plays fine in powerdvd etc, cant get the mpeg into the dvd pack..im currently recoding the mpg with tmpgenc, to see if i can use the recoded file..ill keep u posted :) (has quality loss though..)
k dude, it worked, recoded a .mpg to the same format it was originally, and the file worked...does have a bit of quality loss, but at least u could finish your dvd :) (if u have 10 episodes on a dvd for example. ) Talking about making a backup ofcourse.. :)
If you wish to use the vcd files. Use Isobuster (freeware) to extract the vcd files to mpg. TMPGEnc DVD will only need to re-encode the audio to 48000Hz.
Worked fine for me.
If you want to convert a file from VCD, that could be OK. But I think it's not necessary. Remember, a VCD-file is not really an MPEG-file. It's a DAT-file, which can be interpreted as an MPEG. But the header is not correct for MPEG; it's a RIFF-header. All you have to do is change this header. Could be done with VCDEasy. I had this problem with the "Cure Show"-VCD. Works fine now on DVD.
I recorded some footage to -RAM via s-video from my borther-in-laws Panasonic MX 350 mini DV. When trying to import it into TMPGEnc DVD Author from -RAM it comes up with an error message saying I have "A mix of different video formats" and to bad, how sad, your stuffed and stops there with this fatal error message
It was all recorded as 4:3 on the mini DV, the recorded on SP mode on the Pana E30 via s-video on AV-3...
Whenever I encode an AVI file to MPG (SVD) format I get a video, but no audio. I have all of the codecs to play AVI and MPG, divix, and xvid so I don't think it's a codec problem.
First, the new template editor is a nice improvement! :)
However, you really need to fix the speed setting in dvd writing tool! I want to burn 4x media at 2x speed for highest readability (unfortunately Princo's 4x media aint very reliable at 4x and i have 100 of them...).
I hope you can fix that asap.
I imported a VRO file from my Sharp DVD Recorder. It seemed to work fine, I edited out some scenes and created a final movie.
But I think there's a bug in the way it imports VRO files. First, its missing scenes!!! The total clip is only 47 minutes but I recorded 2 hours on that disk. 2nd, for the same timecode it shows different clips in the thumbnail window depending on if you get there using fast forward, or get there using play.
I have noticed this too. If there is only one clip on the VRO file, TDA works as expected - very well. But if there is more than clip recorded TDA goes berserk. It will show the length of the clip as only part of the total, and it will mix up the order of the clips, taking little bits from here and there.
This is a bug - not a possible bug! I am using a Pioneer DVR 7000 recorder.
I received the m2v file encoded using TMPGenc.
But in TMPGenc, the Profile & Level was set to Main Profile & High Level) instead of MP@ML.
After I authored and play the DVD file, there is no video. The frame rate is 0 instead of 29.97.
Is there anything I can do to turn on the video at the IFO or VOB files?
Thank you.
Well, when we received the m2v file, we verified and checked it did played in Microsoft Windows Media player ver 8. So we accepted and paid the contractor.
But after we authored the DVD to mux the m2v video with ac3 audio, PowerDVD shows no video.
We found out the contractor used TMPGEnc to encode at 29.9 frame rate. But we did not specified and they used High Profile @ High Level instead of MP@ML.
Saddly we have to encode with MP@ML again. What a costly lesson.
Tested DVD Author now and it works great for fast and simple menus!
Just want you to know that the DVD-writing tool also works with Pioneer DVR-106/A06. I have tested DVD-R at 4x and DVD+RW sofar.
Also, burning in Nero 6 with DVD-Video template seems to have some issues when playing the dvd on a PC (in PowerDVD). I can play the first menu's and tracks but halfway through it gives me an error about "scratched disc".
Using the DVD Authors writing tool fixes this and it plays fine in PowerDVD.
The reports about chapter points causing skips in a movie is a bit troubling though... I hope you can fix this!
The menus for this iw worthless (never worked right) but the editing is great. Is there a way to export just the edited mpeg video so I can write the menus with a different program that works?
From "Source setup" select "Add DVD video".
Scroll to the VIDEO_TS folder and highlight it.
When Wizard appears click "Next".
Uncheck "Reading chapter information" and check "Copy the clip video data to HDD".
Select a folder to save the file in and click "Ok".
After TMPGEnc DVD Author has finished copying the MPG file to HD close it down.
Open up your favourite Authoring program - load in the MPG created by TDA and create your menu's.
