Question - How can this be done? No.66722
Timbo  2012-09-24 04:49:58 ( ID:ljhz8duiwhm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm a bit lost trying to get a blu ray menu to work the way I have it in my head.

I'd like it so that when the disc is inserted it automatically plays a short 10 second or so intro clip. This then fades to black and then a different 15 second clip fades in and plays, over the final frame of which the video stops and the disc menu appears.

Can this be done with Authoring Works 5 and if so how?

tkrave  2012-09-26 02:52:33 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You want to create a First Play Track. In the Source stage, click on the arrow next to the "Add a Track" button on the left hand side of the screen. Select to add a first play track.

The first play track will play once you put the disc in the player, then the menu will appear after it.

So you'd want to put the clips you mention into the first play track, and then add transition effects for your fades.

Timbo69  2012-09-27 22:01:27 ( ID:bwgn2ba8am2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Cool, thanks for that. Next stumbling block. After playing the first play track the disc immeadiately goes on to play Track 1 rather than go to the top menu. I've got the playback settings set to "Play the header track only" at disc insertion and and "display the track menu or top menu" for track playback end action (I only have a top menu), but it refuses to go to the top menu without user input.

tkrave  2012-09-28 02:52:00 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Your disc insertion action should be set to "Display the top menu". I think the header track refers to the first actual track, not the firstplay track. The firstplay track will always play first no matter what insertion action you use.

Question - Disk writing tool says output file too large No.66698
Frank Schabel  2012-09-17 21:51:12 ( ID:o4/wh0pcznj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I created an AVCHD movie and in the output section set the target size to a single layer DVD. In disk writing tool it says the output size is 4478 megabytes and refuses to write to the disk because there is insufficient storage size. I have reprocessed this movie and it comes out the same size again. Why is the program not compressing the files adequately, or if it is, why will disk writing tool not write the file.

tkrave  2012-09-18 08:10:39 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

From what I've read from other peoples' experiences, that tool is a bit hit and miss. I think people have reported it going slightly over or under the target size.
You may want to try setting a custom target size a little lower than the actual DVD capacity.

Question - NVIDIA Drivers and MKV importing No.66682
Ranma  2012-09-15 15:39:14 ( ID:jr7aqprafbn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have seen it posted on here before that we have to use the 299 version of the Nvidia drivers or else mkv files will not import properly. I have a kepler based card and I have to use new drivers or else my display is craptacular. Will any pegasys employees please look into this issue. mkv files crash or the program just hangs when they are trying to be imported. I am using my own collection of DVDs to rip to mkv so I can author blurays without having to swap dvds. And I find it impossible to make the program work any more. Even with direct show filter enabled it is NOT working. Please FIX this issue. 5 months and no update to the software that we all paid for is pathetic :(

Bug report - Installation Program Does not Work No.66661
MJC  2012-09-08 12:04:18 ( ID:amdfce3qs3l )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I downloaded the trial version (from cnet and again from softpedia) and the install program (over 200 mb) does not work. When I run it a box pops up too fast for me to read and then Mega Zipper opens and shows an empty archive. What do I need to do?

Try download direct from Pegasys (it's the link below the download button):

Question - Can two prodects share the same proxy No.66583
rmurphy007  2012-08-22 22:54:13 ( ID:iwj.uavvyl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have authoring works and considering purchasing video mastering works. My question is can the two applications share the same proxy file and if so how can it be done.

I record movies for TV and then edit the commercials:

1. Make a DVD for later use.

2. Make a File for my Apple TV

3. make a File for IPAD

tkrave  2012-08-23 06:08:32 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

From my tests, TAW5 and TVMW5 can share proxy files, but they won't auto-detect them, so you'll have to create them twice (once in each program).

The end result is that there is a single proxy file that they will both recognize.

rmurphy007  2012-08-23 08:04:03 ( ID:iwj.uavvyl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

So I have to spend an hour or two in each application creating what esentually is the same proxy file.

If I have a different directory for each application and I copy the proxy file and then go to create will it see the file and use it rather then create a new one. just trying to safe some time if possible.

Still playing with the trial version of video mastering to see if it's easier to create the files for my apple TV and Ipad. Currently edit the show create a DVD and then Rip it to the format. Some times i get audio out of sync with the movie.

Thanks for your answer though :-)

Question - File Selection - I get two TS file to chose from No.66579
rmurphy007  2012-08-22 10:36:25 ( ID:iwj.uavvyl2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When importing a file I have two TS files to select from even though i am only selecting one file. Is there a difference between the two ?????

tkrave  2012-08-23 05:55:23 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Is one listed as Playlist and the other Program? If they both look the same, it won't matter which one you choose.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it, the Program files are the actual AV data on the disc. The Playlist files reference the Program files, but can differ since they have the ability to reference certain sections of the program files instead of the entire program file. That's why TAW5 will display both, in case the playlist files have a different composition than the program file.

Question - Make Blu ray ISO by disk writing tool can't use No.66576
vikrom ketsamma  2012-08-21 17:44:40 ( ID:cdvussajmc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I rending to Blu ray format and then use writing tool to make blu ray ISO.
I use daemon tool lite for mount ISO and open with cyberlink power dvd 11.
Cyberlink power dvd have error massage "disk not support"

How to????????

Ranma  2012-09-02 16:25:07 ( ID:jr7aqprafbn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Cyberlink does not support daemon tools. They do not allow you to use virtual drives anymore because of piracy. Sorry but you are going to have to use some other software.

Ron Exalto  Home )  2012-09-19 05:25:27 ( ID:mfrvuixxcpg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Indeed the policy of PowerDVD has changed over time, but it IS still possible to create and play ISO files.
The most important thing is the folder structure of your Blu-Ray disc before you make it an ISO.
There must be 2 folders: BDMV and CERTIFICATE.
The certificate folder must be empty!
The BDMV Folder MUST contain the following 8 folders (they can be empty, but MUST be there)
AUXDATA, BACKUP, BDJO, CLIPINF, JAR, META, PLAYLIST, STREAM
The BACKUP Folder MUST contain the following 4 folders:
BDJO, CLIPINF, JAR, PLAYLIST

Only if you have this structure you can make this into an ISO which you then can mount with a mount program (virtual clonedrive is a free one) and PowerDVD 10-11-12 will see it as a playable disc.

Hope this helps some people

Question - How to set default format to PAL No.66557

tkrave  2012-08-18 02:54:04 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I don't think there is a way. You just have to remember to click PAL at the Start window.

benoitm  2012-08-18 18:05:03 ( ID:4uvytszflrw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

A couple of days back, I rushed to put a long AVI (DV) video to DVD and forgot to click PAL....result, the movie plays stuttering (due to 25 to 30 fps conversion) :( ...and of course, I erased the AVI file before I realized that :( :( :(

Question - Prevent reencoding when creating BRMV No.66506
LiveRock  Home )  2012-08-10 11:45:45 ( ID:r//utnrtoxa )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi

I am trying to create source files (.h264, mp4, etc) that Authoring Works 5 can use in a project to create a BDMV (Blu-way) disc.

However, I tried, Works 5 always try to reencode my source videos.
My source videos are

1920x1080
25 fps
H.264

The reencoding takes a lot of time; between 1-2 hours. If I add the Blu-ray writing, it is even more!

Is there a way to create source video files that avoid reencoing?

Thanks in advanced for any insights..

tkrave  2012-08-11 02:16:00 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

There may be other settings you need to change in order to conform to Blu-ray standards. Post the full details of your source file if you can; you can use a program called MediaInfo to get a detailed report.

I'm running into the same problem here ...

I generated BluRay compliant TS streams with x264 and want to author those using TAW5, but no matter what settings I try, it always reencodes the whole programm.

So far, I tested the following options:
- "prevent this track from the target size adjustment"
- "output setting" -> automatic (smart rendering prioritized)

Am I missing some ther options here ?

However, using tsMuxeR for outputting those file as BD works just fine and every player I tried accepts those disks, but obviously, tsMuxeR has no option for authoring at all.

I would surely appreciate any kind of feedback on this matter ...

On a side note, I noticed the transcoding process causes the videolevels to be ajusted from full to legal levels and that's a major show stopper, since I'm usually working with video legal levels in my clips already.

Regards,
Maggi

tkrave  2012-09-05 05:53:30 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Probably a bug related to PAL/25fps Blu-ray files.

I would contact support and give them the video info.

Thanx, tkrave !

I just filed a bugreport.

I thought this BBS would be monitored and assisted by tech support, but now it seems, this is just user based.

Anyways, if I get this issue resolved, I'll drop a note.

Cheers,
Maggi

Maggi  2012-09-10 16:39:09 ( ID:pzgifoyf6pk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Just a little update:

I'm in talks with tech support, but didn't get too much technical details about mandatory requirements for a given h264 stream to avoid re-encoding.

BUT, I did some more research a found a working x264 encoder setting for 1080p25 footage, that does not get re-encoded by TAW at all:

x264.exe --no-progress --preset slow --tune film --nal-hrd vbr --weightp 2 --b-pyramid strict --bluray-compat --level 41 --keyint 25 --min-keyint 25 --aud --non-deterministic --slices 4 --bframes 2 --ref 1 --psy-rd 1:0 --fake-interlaced --bitrate 16000 --qcomp 0.6 --sar 1:1 --threads 0 --colorprim "bt709" --transfer "bt709" --colormatrix "bt709" --bframes 2 --vbv-maxrate 40000 --vbv-bufsize 30000 --b-pyramid strict --demuxer raw --input-res 1920x1080 --fps 25 --input-csp i420 -o output.264 input.file

Feel free to take these settings as a starting point for adopting it to your footage's specs ... :)

Best regards,
Maggi

tkrave  2012-09-11 07:15:22 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Nice! Thanks for those specs. It was probably some minute setting that was throwing things off, though it could just be a bug too. The official Blu-ray whitepaper doesn't go into enough detail to help.
http://www.blu-raydisc.com/assets/Downloadablefile/BD-ROM-AV-WhitePaper_110712.pdf

I think Pegasys does monitor this forum but they won't respond, so I recommend that people contact support if they want a response or if they want to make sure a request/bug is seen.

Maggi  2012-09-17 19:54:18 ( ID:pzgifoyf6pk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanx for the link, tkrave !

In the PDF you linked, is a note about the needed format on page 33:

6.2.1 Video stream
Video streams for Blu-ray 3D shall be MPEG-4 MVC video format (Annex H of ITU-T H.264 | ISO/IEC 14496-10) compliant.

I dug a little deeper and found the following ITU paper that they are referring to:

http://www.itu.int/rec/T-REC-H.264.1/en

"Annex H" starts on page 604 ... ^^

But to make it short, that book is total overkill to read, so I'll keep it pragmatical and take the trail and error approach.

Right now, I'm trying to encode a 23.976p stream that's supposed to not get reencoded and I'll post the setting, once I'll find them to be compatible with TAW.

Cheers,
Maggi

where do you enter these settings. I am having the same problem with .264 files.

Maggi  2012-09-20 20:26:53 ( ID:pzgifoyf6pk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

that depends on what software you are using ... my example is for the cmd-line version of x264.exe, but I'd think that every GUI frontend for x264 has an option for entering those parameters as well

so, what are you using ?

Cheers,
Maggi

tkrave  2012-09-21 02:57:38 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If you're using TVMW5, you need to select "MPEG file output" to access the advanced h.264 settings. It's a bit difficult to figure out which settings match those parameters though.

Rick0725  2012-09-26 11:33:55 ( ID:abhw2jbwy1g )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I tried all possible settings MP4, M2TS, and TS in the HDPVR and NONE of the files smart rendered in Authoring Works 5. A TS file created a few years ago from the HDPVR did smart render though.

the difference in the video properties were

The 720p/59.94 TS file from a few years ago that smart rendors shows ...nonmbaff.

I noticed thata TS file buff=4, ref=4,nonmbaff smart rendors but buff=2, ref=2, nonmbaff does not smart rendor

The TS 1080i/60 file that does not smart rendors shows both...mbaff, nonmbaff
