Question - Output issues No.68634
eainmcd  2014-08-15 04:02:55 ( ID:i8wskypdmfm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have just decided to try using Authoring Works 5 and had not problems building the project but I cannot get it out of the software and onto a disc.

every time I try to output the project to either a file location or a Blu-ray burner the program comes back with an error code. " at Address "hexcode", Write error occurred against address "same hex code" when I clear it and try to do it again the program locks up and I have to CTD to get out of it.

this happens no matter what physical or logical drive I attempt to use. Internal or external.

any ideas?

Bug report - two identical consecutive subtitles automatically combined into one No.68628
Sergey  2014-08-11 16:40:53 ( ID:mqmqdji99pg )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

When I create two identical consecutive subtites TAW5 automatically combined it into one.

Of course, between these two subtitles there is a gap

Question - 5.1 PCM audio No.68613
nucelar  2014-08-07 03:19:57 ( ID:/.vj3vhs7gm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi again I'm on fire :)

I'd like to know how do I add 5.1 PCM (24bit - 48kHz) audio to a Bluray. What format must the audio be in?
I can create multichannel WAV, but only up to 4 GB in size, this means they can only be about 80 min long. Is there another uncompressed format I can use?
Also, must the channel layout be fixed? I always use L R C Lf Ls Rs.

Thanks!

Max  2014-10-10 00:22:49 ( ID:pzgifoyf6pk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Apparently, TAW5 seems to accept WAV64 files.

I use ffmpeg to mux 6 mono streams into one large W64 file.

Your mono files should be named like this:

basename_C.wav
basename_L.wav
basename_Lfe.wav
basename_Ls.wav
basename_R.wav
basename_Rs.wav

Make sure FFMPEG is installed (extracted) into C:\Program Files\ffmpeg.
Download: http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/

Copy'n'paste the following cmdline into a new text document and save it as .BAT file onto your desktop.

echo off
cd /d C:\Program Files\ffmpeg
ffmpeg -i "%~2" -i "%~5" -i "%~1" -i "%~3" -i "%~4" -i "%~6" -map 0:a -map 1:a -map 2:a -map 3:a -map 4:a -map 5:a -acodec pcm_s24le -filter_complex "[0:a][1:a][2:a][3:a][4:a][5:a] amerge=inputs=6" -in_channel_layout 5.1 "%~n1_51MIX.w64"
pause

Now select your 6 mono files, click and hold the upmost file (center channel) and drop them onto the .BAT file.

The resulting .W64 file can be added using TAW's source wizard.

Beware, this is not officially supported, it's just a quick workaround that seems to be working.

Cheers,
Max

Request - Subtitles No.68611
nucelar  2014-08-07 03:07:41 ( ID:/.vj3vhs7gm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi again!

Subtitles. In my opinion these need a serious update.
1. to be able to import srt subtitles and retain ITALICS information. This is very important for professional authoring. Italic subtitles are used to denote songs or off-screen dialogue. They could be assigned another style and the user chooses how they look.
2. Forced subtitles system. For pro authoring it is important to be able to play forced subtitles for each language, without having to select anything. If a certain audio language is selected, the corresponding forced subtitles track plays automatically, without option to disable.

Thanks for considering these suggestions.

Hi,
As a request: to be able to load dts and dolby TrueHD audio. I'm not asking for your software to encode in these formats, I understand there are licensing issues. I just want to add for example a .mlp (TrueHD) file I have encoded myself. I even don't mind if I can't preview (prehear) it. Just to be able to multiplex it into the Bluray.
That would be awesome.

Question - Background music for menus No.68609
nucelar  2014-08-07 02:51:13 ( ID:/.vj3vhs7gm )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi all,

I'm trying to add background music to all menus. I have a 5 min. long ac3. I managed to add it to a single menu screen. But my idea is that the same music plays continously in all menus, without breaks. Is this possible?
Thank you!

tkrave  2014-08-09 08:34:07 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Not possible. Each menu is made up of a separate movie file, so each time a different menu is loaded, it will start from the beginning of the movie file. This is also how commercial DVDs work.

Bug report - CUDA not working after installing new Nvidia driver No.68607
Dennis  2014-08-06 07:47:33 ( ID:zho/umk31bn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This is to report a new problem with TMPGEnc Authoring Works 5 and MPEG Smartrender 4. I have been attempting to correct a problem for the past week with all my video software converters (4 different software programs).

I upgraded to a new Nvidia Series 700 graphics card a couple weeks ago and lost all my CUDA functionaliy in four different software packages. After a lot of troubleshooting with the card manufacturer, I learned the new driver, specifically the new 340 release broke all my video conversion software and I was unable to enable CUDA acceleration on any of the software. See the manufacturers explanation below:

I had to uninstall the new driver and reload the older v337.88 firmware. After backing off the new firmware upgrade, everything is back to normal and everything is working correctly. CUDA is back!

Hi Dennis,

CUDA support for some video encoder software was removed in the recent 340 release drivers in favour of the newer NVENC acceleration. Unfortunately, this means that to enable CUDA support for your software, you will need to roll back to a previous driver revision, wait for a vendor software update, or use a modified driver that re-enables CUDA support.

You can find more information here.

EVGA Support

Hi Dennis,

to remedy that issue, I use this modded 340.52 driver from a brave soul on Guru3D:
http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=4884017&postcount=17

After installation, CUDA encoding is back in TAW and most likely in all other apps as well.

Still, I hope Pegasys will move on to support NVENC in the near future.

Regards,
Max

Seems to have been fixed, as of GEForce drivers v344.75 anyhow.

Mappi75  2014-12-24 09:20:34 ( ID:rdxua1hha7h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Can't enable CUDA with latest Trial (from today) and 347.09 WHQL.

No comment from the devs?

Thinking about buying this software.
But without a statement..

Question - Scalability ? No.68561

Question - Background Image Problems No.68551
RAB78  2014-07-07 02:17:20 ( ID:77jp5mmypzo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm trying out the trial of TMPEnc AW5 and i was wondering if it's possible to move the background image after scaling it?
Also when i check the aspect ratio box, scaling is limited to the AR of the image and does not fit the AR of the menu.
I've also noticed that after editing the background and clicking 'OK', the image resolution is very low creating a very pixelated image. Is this only apparent on the preview or will it look like that after the render?
Many thanks!

tkrave  2014-07-16 08:50:03 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You cannot move the background image, unfortunately. It would be nice to be able to move it and also move it beyond the boundaries of menu.
However, you CAN add a "picture menu item" and you can scale and move that around freely, and it can be moved to the "back" of the page thus acting as the background image. Unfortunately, this also cannot be moved beyond the bounds of the menu page.

The aspect ratio checkbox is meant to do exactly what you describe; keep the aspect ratio of the background image.
For best results, create (or crop) your image to the aspect ratio of the menu.

What is the original resolution of the source image? If it is pixelated, it may be a lower resolution than your menu.

Question - HD Camcorder to DVD - Looks like low framerate No.68540
jrburke99  2014-06-27 06:02:45 ( ID:enk/koxoun2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am importing files from my HD camcorder. I am not at home right now, so I have no exact details. I believe they are MP4 files? I bring them directly into Authoring Works, create an NTSC DVD project, I don't mess with any settings, just create the titles and a menu. The output DVD (dual-layer) when played on my PS3 (upscaling) on my HD TV, looks like the framerate is low. I wouldn't call it choppy, it just looks like it is running at a very steady, but LOW framerate. I have made multiple DVDs of home movies, and they all look the same. Original, store bought DVD movies look great. I even have a couple movie DVDs that I had ripped and compressed (not with Authoring Works), and they all look fine. So I figure it is an issue converting the video from the HD camcorder format to the DVD format. Anybody else have these issues, or know how to fix them? Do I need to convert to SD first using another process or program? Thank you!

don  2014-07-02 01:12:58 ( ID:hrkfsnutyvh )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What format is the video (frame rate and interlaced or progressive)? MP4 can be any of several different formats.

What camcorder did you use to record the video?

I recently updated from version 3 to version 5. Now everytime I load the program and try to do anything it crashes. Running windows 7 - latest everything.

George  2014-06-26 21:36:24 ( ID:lsk7calqe8h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Do you have both installed at the same time? Try uninstalling everything and reinstall the latest version (release a few days ago), otherwise you should contact support directly for the crashes.

Question - Move chapter keyframe easily ? No.68519
benoitm  2014-06-16 21:13:07 ( ID:3ze2vdkhebf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have 2 versions of a video where the chapters are identical, but with slight variations in the exact keyframe position. I have created all chapters in the first video & would like to import the chapter list into the second, then adjust each chapter slightly to their correct position.
I have found easy no way to do this:
1) I could "nudge" the chapters to be moved, frame-by-frame using the chapter context menu option "Move to previous/next frame", but this is slow as I have to move the chapter by several seconds (tens/hundreds of frames) and there is no keyboard shortcut for this operation
2) faster but still tedious with tens of chapters:
create a new chapter at the correct position, copy/paste the existing chapter name to the newly created one, then delete the old chapter.

Am I missing a faster/easier way ?

tkrave  2014-06-20 03:22:36 ( ID:resxbfmz4s2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm pretty sure there's an option to specify a timecode; that's probably the easiest way.

Just note the timecode where the chapter mark should be, then open the chaptering tool and specify the timecode to insert a chapter point.
