Question - legal warning clip autopalying before top menu No.64566
patrick disperier  2011-04-11 21:49:52 ( ID:/nrb7o.mnej )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi everybody !
Is it possible to buid a menu (in this case DVD)in order to have a legal warning clip or text displaying automatically and remaining independant of the menu itsef.
Up to now, I could obtain this with "play header track only" in the options, but the problem is that this warning clip is also displayed from the play all button in the top menu.I tried to play with the link editor with no result.
Does anyone have a solution?
Many thanks in advance for responses

Make it a Play First item that is ahead of the menu?

tkrave  2011-04-19 10:07:27 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Yes, add a "firstplay" track in the Source stage. Click on the downward arrow next to the "Add a track" button and select "Add a firstplay track". Any clip in your firstplay track will play once you insert the disc in the player; after that, it shouldn't play again.

Question - How to set play buttons to chapters ? No.64554
keyop  2011-04-07 02:31:04 ( ID:zonvkuk6.0k )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I've managed to create a simple Blu-ray menu in TAW4.

It has a title screen consisting of PLAY ['play track button'] and CHAPTER ['chapter menu button'].

During simulation, pressing CHAPTER takes me into pages 1,2,3 etc. which feature 'thumbnail of chapter' and 'play track buttons', as well as 'go to the next page' and 'previous page' buttons.

However, while clicking the thumbnail picture correctly takes the viewer to the appropriate chapter, clicking on PLAY in these pages always starts the film at the beginning. What I need is for PLAY within the 'chapter' pages to also take the viewer to the appropriate chapter, just like the thumbnail does.

I'm stuck at how to change the PLAY button in the chapter pages to not start at the beginning but jump to the appropriate chapter, while retaining the title menu PLAY as 'play all'.

Any help on how I can achieve my goal?

tkrave  2011-04-08 04:53:05 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The Play button refers to Playing the track from the beginning; it can't be set to play from whatever chapter page you're on. To start playing from a specific chapter, you would use the chapter thumbnails/text. It might be more intuitive to remove the Play button from all but the first chapter page.

DWP  2011-04-08 21:36:28 ( ID:8o4cienbi6h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Play may also start the play at which ever button is highlight. Move the lighlight with the navigation/cursor buttons. The default if no button is highlighted is the first chapter.

tkrave  2011-04-19 10:09:59 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

keyop is talking about the play button in the menu, not the play button on the remote.

Question - Some help with creating a simple Blu-ray menu ? No.64552
keyop  2011-04-06 22:11:24 ( ID:zonvkuk6.0k )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm new to TMPGenc Authoring Works 4, which I have chosen as a Blu-ray authoring tool because my usual editor/DVD creator Avid Liquid does not have such facilities.

In Liquid, I usually create simple DVD menus consisting of a static background picture, no sound, a list of chapters in plain text, and buttons alongside those chapters for navigation via DVD player remote control.

I'm trying to emulate this approach in TAW4 but am a bit stuck in dealing with the chapters.

So far I have successfully created a background by importing the same picture used in my DVDs from Liquid. Then I have created some chapter titles in a similar plain text. My first question is, can I make my chapter text objects function as buttons? So the DVD remote can simply flick up and down them with each one becoming highlighted? This means I will not need buttons alongside my chapter titles, since the chapter titles are buttons themselves. If this is possible, could someone offer a brief workflow through TAW4 to help achieve my goal? I can't seem to find a function to assign created text objects to chapters.

My second question is, if it is not possible to make text items function as buttons, how would you go about creating a simple menu structure like I mention above? I just want the one page (i.e. TITLE PAGE) with half a dozen buttons displayed on that same page available for chapter navigation.

I think I'm getting a little lost with the Menu Creation Wizard in that I'm not sure from the onscreen information just which format I should be choosing. There seems to be a lot of reference to 'TRACKS', but all I want is one basic title menu with a 'play all' and the option to select different CHAPTERS in the video.

I need to manufacture a Blu-ray quite quickly for a client, so would much appreciate any guidance with regards to my simple menu requirements from any experienced users of TAW4.

Also, when I have created chapters in 'source' with 'marks the current frame as a chapter entry', when I press the 'moves the playhead to the next chapter of the source' button it does not do this... but instead seems to advance the playhead by exactly 15 frames at a time. I don't understand this - how do I make the playhead jump to my next chapter correctly?

donp  2011-04-08 20:57:44 ( ID:8o4cienbi6h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Can't answer the question directly. Have not been usign AW4 long enought to have it fully committtd to memory and am not at my edit machine.

With taht in mind, my breaktrough in lerning to use AW4 (after yeasr with Encore and ReelDVD) was to realize that when you first create a menu structure you get full plate of features in it, and you make the changes in large part by deleting, inactivating, changing, or making transparent the items you do not want, and by adjusting some attributes of the menu and menu items. Lots for featutes tucked away in the nooks and crannies of the program.

I've also used it to create both DVD and BD from the same HDV media files and menu. Copy the media files from you DVD project to a new BD project. Save the DVD menua s a custom template, then apply that customtemplate to the BD project menu. The chapter points, navigation, links, buttin still images, etc. all carry over. The only thing I noticed that might not make it is some of the button attributs (e.g., highlight frames).

FWIW: I was a Liquid user, but switched to Edius 5.51 last year to deal with AVCHD and am a happy happy camper. Never really used the DVD creation side of LE.

Question - Copy a menu No.64525
donp  2011-04-01 01:06:39 ( ID:8o4cienbi6h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Can I copy a menu from a DVD project for use in a new Bluray project?
If so how, or do I have to recreatethe menu?

The video clips, chapters, etc. will be the same.

donp  2011-04-05 00:27:50 ( ID:8o4cienbi6h )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well, I did it by saving the DVD menu as a template. Then copying the edited video files from the DVD sesion to a new BluRay project. After that I based the BluRay project menu on the template saved from the DVD project. Only minor adjustments to the menus were need. Might not be the best way, but it worksed.

Media files were all at resolution appropriate to BluRay.

Question - smart rendering No.64515
emidio grottola  Home )  2011-03-30 19:30:03 ( ID:2t9o6xxogph )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

hello
i'm an happy and old user of Tmpgenc
My video has a VBr from 21.500 to max 23.500 mbps (Sony Cx550)
I have always used in Tmpegeng full rendering setting it in contstant bitrate 22.500
Now i read if i use smart rendering option, Tmpgenc re eondode only parts of my video i have edited in Tmpgeng..the other parts will not be encoode.
It means the video keep the original framerate as i outputted from my videocamera? Is it right?..i'm wondering that becouse the setting in Tmpgenc for smart rendering is bitrate Vbr 1pass 25.000-30.000 and i cant change it.So is it sure smart rendering doesnt econde my video not cutted, or smarte rendering reeconde everything to 25.000-30.000 mbps Vbr 1pass?
I'm doing a blu-ray of course
Thanks u
emidio from rome

tkrave  2011-03-31 02:46:16 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Smart Rendering will not re-encode your video. All you need to do is make sure your input video is compliant with your output format. So for Blu-ray, your input video would need to be a Blu-ray compliant MPEG-2. You will know if Smart Rendering is active if there is a blue "SR" icon on the clip thumbnail in the Source Stage.

emidio  2011-03-31 07:33:32 ( ID:atdbfavmmqf )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thank u for your answer Tkrave
I'm not changing anything in setting..and i keep smart rendenrind
but in the clips stay always FR and not SR
What is wrong?
thanks emidio

emidio grottola  2011-03-31 19:51:01 ( ID:2t9o6xxogph )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Do i have to check "Do not adjust this track size" to avoid full rendering?
i really dont understand why smart rendering donesn't work. My video is a mpeg file..

tkrave  2011-04-02 03:16:45 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

If the clips say FR when you import them and you haven't changed any settings, then your clips are not compliant with your output format in some way.

What are the specs of your clips? Framerate, dimensions, format, etc.?

emidio  2011-04-02 06:17:04 ( ID:fyhl8p.qzn2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thanks
the original clip from my camera Sony CX550ve is a avhcd .m2ts VBR usually 21 mb framerate up almost 23 mb.for example a 14 second clip is 38,4 mb
If i convert it with Corel Videostudio Xpro 4 in a bluray format, then Tmpgenc recognize it for a SR.But i dont like to re encode the file in bluray (35.000 kpbs)..the outputted file is worsth than original.
I think Tmpgenc should let SR for original clip from Camcorder
If i click on "Do not adjust this track size" option, it will do smart or full rendering...?i think it render everything however
thanks

Rick0725  2011-04-05 03:42:39 ( ID:.qui0lgypoj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sony and Panasonic cams output M2TS as AVCHD MPEG4. Authoring works 4 needs to convert the files to M2TS MPEG2. It would be nice if there was an upgrade that would pass the MPEG4 files.

Does anyone know if there is an upgrade to Versiomn 4 coming.

emidio  2011-04-05 06:08:10 ( ID:dmhfvywhwdn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

i really agree Rick
Besides it's a lot of time Tmpgenc doesnt' upgrade TWA
Indeed id' like Tmpgenc do a unique program for editing and authoring as most of software do it

they were showing an H.264 smart rendering demo at the NAB show last week. It's still in development but hopefully once it's finished it will be incorporated into their products.

Question - How not to link clips in menu? No.64510
Steffy  2011-03-28 23:21:15 ( ID:dr4hdmdgsyj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have 4 clips. 1 main feature, and 3 bonus features. Everything is working great, but when I try simulation and play the main feature then it doesn`t stop when the movie is finished. It`s just keep going to all 4 tracks is finished then it goes back to the menu. I do not want to link the clips, and in the settings for the clips I also choose the setting "Do not link the clips".

Is it possible to play the clips individually or not?

tkrave  2011-03-31 02:43:41 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are your 4 clips in one track? If so, you will need to place each clip in a separate track. All clips in 1 track will play them continuously one after the other.

If your clips are in separate tracks and it's still playing one after the other, there is also a menu option for track playback end action. I think by default it is set to play the next track once automatically. You will need to change it to go back to the menu after track playback ends. You can change this option in the Global Menu Options or during menu setup in the Menu Wizard.

Question - 16:9 laptop screen: buttons out of view No.64494
nabmac  2011-03-24 13:31:42 ( ID:prvaugi3rxc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

With a 16:9 screen on the laptop, with most of the functions the bottom half of the screen is not visible, there are no scroll-bars, and there is a "minimum" size when making the window smaller.

This means one has to count the number of tab presses to know that you are on the Ok button.

Any suggestions for getting round this problem?

tkrave  2011-03-31 02:39:15 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What is your screen resolution? TAW4 requires a screen resolution of at least 1024x768. If you can increase your screen resolution, that would be the best option.

Question - Editing wtv video No.64455
echo  2011-03-13 05:03:50 ( ID:q68hnqwjtnr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm trying to find a capable video editing program.

I need these features:
import and edit wtv files (both h264 & mpeg streams)
output them as wtv files
preserve closed captions
cut commercials
open two (or more - but at least two) videos simultaneously in order to cut and paste frames from one video to another.

Can any of the TMPGEnc do these things? If not, can you point me in the right direction?

tkrave  2011-03-16 02:59:40 ( ID:esk4fdefcg2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TAW4 can import MPEG-2 wtv files and cut commercials, but it cannot output as wtv since this is a program for making DVDs, Blu-rays, and DivX Ultra.

None of the TMPGEnc products can output wtv files nor can they import h.264 wtv. TMPGEnc products with a cut-editor can cut commercials and combine two or more videos in any way you want, though not through copy and paste; it's more a process of splitting clips and then arranging the pieces.

gordoncanada  2011-11-30 03:20:49 ( ID:mkpdfteqj7c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Check out a program called "Videoredo." I have it alongside of Masterworks 5. It can output wtv files, and it has an auto-detect commercials function that edits them out automatically. It can also convert to other output types, but I like the options available in Masterworks 5 for converting. To cut and paste frames of one video to another I think you need a dedicated video editing program (like Sony Vegas), but they do not typically make good converting programs.
Good luck
