Question - TE25 - Determining first pass size No.39619
Kempodragon  2003-10-26 20:03:33 ( ID:p.nbr9qm5bj )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I was encoding a capture of Akira Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress" for a DVD, using 2 pass VBR. During the first pass, I noticed the cq factor was 49.64 and the bitrate was extremely low. I thought that 2 pass worked like it does while encoding in Xvid and Divx, namely the first pass uses min compression (cq=100?) and builds a file with necessary info and then scales it accordingly. TMPG seems to use a high quantizer factor while analyzing and then use less while encoding. The reason I'm wondering about this is because you can determine the first pass size from the stats file and thus determine the compression ratio of your final file size. I'd like to be able to do the same thing with TMPEG, namely compare the DVD file size with the first pass size. Can someone tell me how I can find out this info?

B_Racer  2003-10-27 08:53:16 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

TMPGEncs 2pass-Mode works completly differnt from this DivX-Thing (like ANY MPEG-Encoder).

DivX works with trying different Bitrates, TMPGEnc trys different CQ-Factors.
There's no way to do what you want, and it makes imho no sense to do that.

THIS IS NOT A BUG, SO DON"T MAKE A BUG REPORT!!!

This Problem is not caused by Tmpgenc But by your AVI file...Tmpgenc doesn"t support all Audio formats so if your AVI file has an unsupported audio format your Mpeg file will not have any audio.. as a General rule it is best to extract the audio from your AVI file to Wav format then use the Wav file as the audio source in tmpgenc..You can extract most formats to wav useing "Virtual Dub"......

Sam  2003-10-27 15:38:53 ( ID:82qdqm5bocl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I have an AVI that I'm trying to convert to MPG. I used VirtualDub to create a WAV from the AVI. When I try to use the WAV as the audio source in TMPGEnc, I get an error that says "cannot open, or unsupported". However, I am able to listen to the WAV file without any problem. The original AVI has MP3 audio. Can someone offer advice?

ashy  2003-10-27 17:43:18 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Are you sure that the audio is infact a WAV file.
You may have thought you have extracted a wav file with Virtualdub, but unless you specifially chose PCM in the codec settings then all you will have done is simply extracted the audio as it is and just plonked a wav header on it.

Unless this Wav file is at least over a gig (for a regular movie that is) in size then you can be sure it's not a wav.
Another problem could be that audio is VBR mp3 which you need a special version of Virtualdub to extract.

Minion  2003-10-27 21:51:48 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Actually you can extract VBR MP3 to wav useing the Latest V-Dub version.....You have to set the Audio to "Full Proscessing mode" then under "Compression" choose "None" then go to "file to "Save as Wav" then it will extract the VBR Mp3 to WAV at the Proper Length so there will be no sync Problems(Usually)...Cheers

Sam  2003-10-27 22:11:45 ( ID:82qdqm5bocl )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Thank you, this has been very helpful. I believe ashy was correct and I had mp3 audio with a wav header. I used VirtualDub again, this time with PCM selected for output, and got a much larger wav that worked fine in TMPGEnc.

Nova  2003-10-30 18:58:22 ( ID:qz63c16liof )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hey tried to do what yal said with Virtual Dub.. but it says there is no audio decompresser to compress the audio source. Is there any way to fix this?

ashy  2003-10-30 20:44:59 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It's probably Ac3.
You need Virtualdubmod or Virtualdub_ac3.

Jaap  2003-10-26 09:30:03 ( ID:nbpc6d.5p6. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I had to edit the input file because the .m2v file was moved to another disk. After that all defined chapters were gone....

Would be nice if the chapters could be retained.

That's normal, if you cange the Movie, you will loss all you Chapter-Infos.
Copy the Movie back to the old Location and load the old Project-File.

Question - TE25 - Problem with SVCD tracking on my player No.39605
Frank  Home )  2003-10-26 08:26:20 ( ID:ghelfdbhvnk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hey. I've got a quirky little problem that really gets on my nerves. When playing back my SVCD of my latest startrek enterprise TV-Cap on the DVD player, I cant fast forward the video without it resetting its location. Meaning that whenever I try and skip a segment via ff X4 or above, the DVD player resets the video and starts from 0:00 :)

If I do a X2 FF, the player will show the scene in double time, but when I press play to bring it back to normal speed, it does the same thing as previously mentioned and resets the video.

I dont know whats going on. but it only happenes on my DVD player, and not on the computer.

ashy  2003-10-26 13:23:23 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

This could just simply be related to YOUR player only, some are just like that, but it can also happen when using certain burning software.
Which software are you using to burn and what is the model of your player?

Frank  Home )  2003-10-26 20:19:46 ( ID:ghelfdbhvnk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm using Nero Burning Rom. Do you know of any other programs that I could try out?

ashy  2003-10-27 17:48:44 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Nero has been know to cause this problem with certain machines.
VCDeasy can apparantly correct this error, unfortunately VCDeasy is no longer free, but the last free version is still available and is more than adequate for burning VCD/SVCD.
You can download VCDEasy v1.1.5.2 here:

Question - TE25 - Movie stutters when scene pans No.39603
Rash  2003-10-26 03:08:12 ( ID:jv9whg6p3fo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

After making a DVD in TMPGEnc, and play the dvd on my tv, the picture seems to stutter, or skip along when the scenes pan or camera moves.
Is it a setting I have wrong?
I use the Wizard to do my set up and my system is fairly modern. P4 @ 2.5 gig...512 ram and lots of HD space.
Thanks

Minion  2003-10-26 21:15:42 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It sounds Like the Wrong Field order...If you load your source file into tmpgenc useing the Wizard Tmpgenc should analize your File for the correct field order and set it accordingly....Cheers

OK, nice..., and what is the problem? I can't read your mind, and i don't have prophetic talent....

You have a Movie... What kind of Movie? AVI, MPEG, what ever? DivX, DV, MKV, MPEG2...?

What Programs do you use? And what exactly are you trying to do?

royster  2003-10-28 01:39:19 ( ID:knko8etqfhw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

ANY 1 out there that can make a program so u just click 3 boxes and its done let me know ty . all help greatly received :~)

B_Racer  2003-10-28 08:42:41 ( ID:0jd4rmr3tyn )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You did not answer any of my questions, so NOBODY will be able to help you.

TMPGEnc ist the Encoder, TMPGEnc DVD Author is the Authoring program which needs the Output from the Encoder.
The Encoder can't handle AVIs with VBR-Audio correctly, so if this is you problem, you have to use VirtualDub to decode the Audio-Part first to WAV.

royster  2003-10-28 17:30:49 ( ID:knko8etqfhw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I'm sorry i have converted from avi to mpg then to m2v by using tmpgenc and then used tmpgencAuthor to burn it off but with no sound :~( does that make sence to you.? ,so i have to get virtual dub to do the audio !ok i got that! also it says add a track which i cant seem to get ? but i can get the chapters ? so if this is any help to you to help me?? i hope it does .and i hope you can :~)ty

michaelb79  2003-11-12 20:21:46 ( ID:/tykn26zqf2 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Sounds to me like you just need to not encode to elementary streams (m2v, wav, mp2,...).

When using the encoder, select it to make a "System" file (video and audio).

m2v is only video

M peg
2
V ideo

You just need the audio to go with it.

Encode to a system file (mpg). DVD Author should be able to use mpg.

Hint: In the encoder, encode your audio to 48000Hz, 224 Bits. This will allow you to not have to have DVD Author re-encode the audio. Thus, the DVD creation will be much faster.

Any other questions. Email me at michaelb79@hotmail.com.

Rudolph Hucker  2003-11-14 12:30:54 ( ID:snexzpjork6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Royster, don't all theese people make it sound complicated. I do what you want to do, download a movie, convert it and write to dvd, play dvd on your dvd linked to your TV.

First get cucusoft avi-dvd software www.cucusoft.com easily converts the program to m2v. Much easier I find than any other software and works every time.

Sececond use tmpenc dvd author to create the dvd files and also to write the dvd.

Third make sure your TV dvd player is dvd-r compatible, older models will not play dvd-r discs.

You won't need any instructions to do any of this, took me ten minutes to get it going.

P.S. latest version of tmpgenc dvd author allows batch conversion, great product and worth registering.

Question - TE25 - background audio No.39601
tiepolo  2003-10-25 20:34:18 ( ID:4uyocpn/.qo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hello

I am new to TMPGEnc.
I would like to know if it's possible to add background music to an mpeg file
without deleting the existing audio on the file.

thanks very much

ashy  2003-10-26 13:25:30 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

You need an audio editor not TMPG to do this.

Question - TE25 - Frame Rate No.39594
Sakuya  2003-10-25 10:12:13 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

My source AVI file is 23.976fps. I converted a portion of it to MPEG at the same frame rate. It played fine on the computer. But on my DVD player, the audio is jerky. Why is that? What would be the consequences if I converted it to MPEG at 29.97fps? Will there be jerky audio or anything?

ashy  2003-10-25 10:15:57 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Which MPEG format MPEG1 or MPEG2, what bitrate did you use?

Sakuya  2003-10-26 01:45:00 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I am making an XVCD. I used MPEG1 with a bitrate of 2520 kbits/sec. Weird? It works out beautifully on my player.

Minion  2003-10-26 21:20:25 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

It could be because your Bitrate is Far to high for VCD and if your Player Only supports VCD it Probably only has a 1x or 2x speed drive in it which might be a Little slow for reading the High Bitrates you are useing....Cheers

Sakuya  2003-10-27 01:55:04 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I converted it to 29.97fps at the same bitrate and it played fine! Yay!

ashy  2003-10-27 17:52:21 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

>I converted it to 29.97fps at the same bitrate and it played fine! Yay!

I doubt it plays fine, you can't frame rate convert with TMPG, you will get jerky playback. Sort of like little stutters on moving objects.

Sakuya  2003-10-28 03:48:35 ( ID:6y4cusar5hr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

But it does plays fine. Everything looks wonderful and no jerky playback.

Go to this ...http://www.dvdrhelp.com/forum/archive/t112177.html..I had the same problem and did what they said and it fixed it.

ashy  2003-10-25 10:14:00 ( ID:n2grn9uovqo )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Stop trying to run TMPG from the zip.
You need to extract 'ALL' of the files first for it to work, that is what they are there for.

Question - TE25 - get error when trying to run tmpgenc No.39587

sometimes happens when i first boot it other times when i start to encode
ive tryed adding a new dll file but as windows uses it it wont let me
it used to work ive even restored pc to a time it was working but still same prob
im running win xp athlon barton 2.5 1 gig pc2700 333 ddr mem 120 gig hd

Minion  2003-10-24 21:52:12 ( ID:w8yn5mktf8w )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The "NTdll.dll" error usually only pops up when encodeing Xvid files, If this is the case the Best solution is to Install the "FFDShow Decoder" and configure it to decode XviD files and if you have the XviD codec and don"t need it for compression then I would get rid of it...This should hopefully get rid of your Problem...

DOMINATOR  2003-10-25 11:03:16 ( ID:a6hyap1bbm6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hi, Have you Maybe tried to Frameserve the File to Tmpgenc useing Virtual-Dub??? and when encodeing Mpeg2 to mpeg1 or mpeg2 in tmpgenc I find it is Better to use DVD2AVI to Frameserve the Mpeg video to Tmpgenc cuz it is faster and you rarely ever get any errors....Cheers
