I have tried to convert an avi file to DivX with quite poor quality. It seems to be better to convert the avi-file to MPEG2 first, and then convert this to DivX. Can anyone confirm this? And if it is better, why? Which tools are best to use when convert to DivX (FLASKMpeg)?
If i compare the quality/size from TMPGEnc¡s AVI->MPEG1 with the AVI->DivX 3.** i don¡t see any better quality in the DivX (standard VCD 2.0, and then convert to DivX same size). Is all talk about the superior DivX quality just nonsens????

I keep seeing exeryone posting that Tmpgenc does not work with Divx5...I have converted several movies in Divx5 pro format with Tmpgenc to SVCD with no errors and the movies play back fine?
So what is the incompatibility suppose to be about?
Hi when i try to convert a DVIX.avi rip, it says AN ERROR OCCURED WHEN AUDIO WAS DECODED. I can play the .avi file just fine in windows media player, And i am able to convert other avi files, but this one gives me that error, any ideas what i might do/check?
I am a new user and keep getting the same error message. It always comes when the file is 90% complete or better. I have upped the Direct Show filter all the way to 3 now, and have made many changes to the Quantize Matrix, to no avail. Is there anything else I might try? I've been at it since early this morning with no luck.
I get this msg when I load a video source and then select the "Settings" button. I am running windows 98. Am I missing a Windows file or do I need to change any configuration.
That's the version I have. The first Wizard screen comes up, but everything else is greyed. The template tree is totally blank. I can manually load in templates, but not via the Wizard. I'm running Win2K and the software is on H: patition (I tried C: but had same problem). I noticed there waw no install program. I simply unzipped the contents into a directory and ran the application.

I'll try. But this is the latest and "freshest" copy. I'm wondering if there are some environment variables I need to set. For example, there is a configeration settings file. Is this read by TMPGEnc or by the OS? Also, all my template files have ".mcf" extension, but doesn't the program search for ".tpr"?
all the templates have .mcf ,I dont use the wizard cuz the wizard seem to lock in most of the settings and to get a better quality I need to adjust the bitrate and other locked settings.....does any one know how to get rid of the wizard?cuz I hate haveing to turn it off every time I start the program.......

what you do is load in your avi/d2v file choose your template and settings then save it,you will have a batch file now, repeat this step as many times as you need then go to "batch encode" and load these files in,then you are ready to go...
i think u have to use winzip assitant and follow the indications in order to be able to decompress and install TMPGEnc correctly. i give u this advice because i was in the same situaton at first and i did exactly like i tell u.
