Request - TE25 - Could you help me? No.19018
Daphne  2002-04-15 08:09:34 ( ID:wsiilbqc0in )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I need you to solved my problem here. I want to encode to SVCD format. I had a mpeg1 encoder using PV233 chip and Zoltrix capture card. Which one is prefer for good quality recording wheather using avi without compression or mpeg1 (CBR 6144 Mbps)? When I encode a video signal using Zoltrix at higher rate (480 x 480) it showed jerking picture and why the avi file processed at 15 frame per second?

Dennis  Home )  2002-04-15 08:23:34 ( ID:.uhbhxbi0ng )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hmm.

You should check www.vcdhelp.com on the capture thing. What I know is that AVI capturing takes up a lot of space, if you are really into this maby you should check out the WinTV PVR or the RealMagic DV card. They are great since AVI capturing is hard and difficult getting it good as well but it's cheap.

actually, go for the hauppauge wintv go pci and use these high settings:

NO RECOMPRESSION
YU12
320*240
25/30fps
CD quality audio

This will give you high quality but will take up alot of hdd space, but it is worth it.

then convert to VCD/SVCD in TMPGENC and will be done quick.

Question - TE25 - Remove TEMPGEnc No.19011
Roger  2002-04-15 03:13:47 ( ID:c8ozfgaz8zw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

What is the best way to remove the program from my computer?

Dennis  Home )  2002-04-15 12:27:34 ( ID:.uhbhxbi0ng )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Well uninstall it I guess.

The thing is with windows uninstall that it dosn't remove all files and the worst thing, registry entirys to some degree are left behind.

Help

All of the sudden I'm getting 2 error messages that I've never seen before. Right when I try to launch TMPGEnc. I've never had this problem before.

First one says "Read error against address 0229DB4A" and the second "Run Time Error 216 at 0003D850

I was running version 2.52.xx. I deleted it and tried again. I defragged the hard drives and ran check disk. Rebooted and got the same errors. I downloaded version 2.53 and got the same error's.

These are coming before I can even run the program. I don't know but in Premiere 6 I encoded a movie to MS DV AVI instead of just the regular MS AVI. I's stumped. Can anyone offer some help?

kok  2002-04-16 18:58:07 ( ID:8buzgb12aog )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Please do not encode, but use the Avisynth Premiere Plugin. Look at www.vcdhelp.com

Good luck

if it is a DIVX v5 file, it is not compatable

uninstall DIVX v5

install DIVX v4.11 or v4.12

load in the avi and encode

this will work

Question - TE25 - DC Componet precision setting No.18997
MadBoy  2002-04-15 01:56:21 ( ID:du09zbxrwyw )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I just noticed that under "Settings" "Video" tab that "DC Componet precision" says higher the smoother video. anybody have an opinion on this setting? 8 bit...10 bit....slower, better?

Dennis  Home )  2002-04-15 08:29:04 ( ID:.uhbhxbi0ng )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hmm

I don't think it matters much, I allways stick to the standard templates, have worked fine for me, with excellent quality of the encoded videos etc. I don't care too much for the setting just the ones you can change when you load up a template.

:)

Techno  Home )  2002-04-15 09:39:25 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

sometimes it makes it a bit more smoother when played on the PC or the DVD player.

Techno

Ashy  2002-04-15 11:21:24 ( ID:n3gjkhi6dvc )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

The setting relates to the type of movie you are trying to encode. If you are encoding a movie with a lot of calm scenes then a higher precision would be appropiate. The opposite goes for action movies with a lot of movement, the lower setting is more appropiate.
You wouldn't normally need to worry about this because it's effect isn't a great deal.

Question - TE25 - TMPGEnc Guides No.18993
ndxhound  2002-04-14 23:42:15 ( ID:kp7xoh8pqco )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Has someone posted a set of guides for TMPGEnc that show which setting one could/should tweak to balance between file size and quality?

My specific issue has to do with converting an AVI to VCD. The resulting file is a tad too large for a CD (~851MB). I am looking for the setting that would knock back the file size with minimal impact on the quality. Surely I can't be the first to ask this question.

Ashy  2002-04-14 23:53:21 ( ID:4adzcnohuc. )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Try demultiplexing the file and re-encoding the audio at a lower bitrate and then re-multiplex it.

Here is a good guide regarding that matter from www.vcdhelp.com. Dont miss the forum discussion that follows. The arctile depends that your player can cope with non standard VCDs. Esp. VBR.

http://forum.vcdhelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=84759

Btw. You can fit 900 MB on an 90 mins media in (S)VCD format but not any CD-Rom/Player can cope with that. At least most Yamakawa, Scott and Cyberhome players can.

Btw. Something weird is hapening with posting threads, its not the first time I see an multiple post or and moved posting(not only from me :)

Question - TE25 - THE SOUND OUT OF SYNC! No.18989

when converting an AVI to mpeg-2 I am not getting any sound. Anyone know why?
Thanks

Dennis  Home )  2002-04-15 08:33:37 ( ID:.uhbhxbi0ng )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Ahhhh the standard out of sync problem.

I know something that will fix it for sure.

Just extract the audio from the divx (uncompress it if it is a mp3 file or something) the just do the same thing. Load up the video file, and then on the audio tab, look up the wav file and select it (the one you extracted) the just encode as you would. Tada, perfect sync.

This problem might be a bug in Tmpgenc or something I don't know but I allways do it this way since I fear sync problems and my computer is verry slow.

For audio extraction use msgraph or maby virtual dub, your choise

Help on that can be found here

http://www.vcdhelp.com
http://doom9.net

Those are sites I use, good guides and have links to other guides :)

Techno  Home )  2002-04-15 09:37:28 ( ID:82zqdopxre6 )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Denis, u r correct, may I add a little extra please?

load in the avi in virtualdub

goto audio > full processing mode
goto audio > compression > no compression PCM

then goto file > save wav

then load the avi and the wav in TMPGENC and encode!

make sure the audio is 44100Hz in TMPGENC

Question - TE25 - My SVCD have bad streaming No.18986
norwegian  2002-04-14 22:41:04 ( ID:naf0cui.lqk )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Have tried several divx movies of good quallity, but they all give the same result to my my svcd, the picture is sharp and the sound is exellent, but the video streaming is not so good. I use the supervideo template and have tried several adjustment, but nothing seems to help.
Any sugestions?

And another thing what excectly does multiplexing and de-multiplexing, and when do we use it??

Dennis  Home )  2002-04-15 08:20:04 ( ID:.uhbhxbi0ng )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Hmm. What is your problem ?

I have been doing the same thing, converting DivX to SVCD (my divx are in 640*360 with AC3 sound) so I had to extract the audio to a uncompressed wav file first.

I would suggest you use 2-pass VBR and set the minimum value to 300 and the avegage bit rate to between 1900-2300. Other than that, if you use a template you should be fine. My encodings are good and works fine.

A note though is that if you can, get a DivX with as high quality as possible and if you are converting movies, get hold of the ones that are released on 2 cd's.

Norwegian  2002-04-16 10:15:21 ( ID:itr7j3nmssr )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

I figured it out myself, the source was 23 fps and I have Pal system with 25 fps, so i tried to enable 3:2 Pulldown in the advance tab and my movie works perfect.

Thanks anyway.

M.Bastian  2002-04-14 23:22:35 ( ID:lh1udvptj1c )   [ Delete / Reply with quotation ]

Here goes my vov to not contribute to a thread Techno has answered....

Ok, heres the deal. TMPGEnc which is downloadable on this webpage is technicaly free. But not the MPEG2 codec. To circumvent the MPEG2 license fee the programm will disable MPEG2 encoding an month after installation. This is essential for TMPGenc being free!

TMPGenc Plus on the other side(which is downloadable at www.pegasys-inc.com) is tryware. After 2 weeks of use it will no longer start without an license key.
One of the main differences between TMPGenc Plus and TMPGenc is the 2 Pass VBR encoding. If you want to make Standalone Player compilant VCD streams only you can go with the free version. If you want to make high quality SVCDs and DVDs buy the Plus Version.
